I don't have a choice.
England till I die...
At least we can always rely on a draw with Sweden....
Zlatan says no.
I know what you mean.
At least we can always rely on Zlatan not showing up in a major tournament.
That was the only possible credible reason.
Ruling that out this man is officially insane.
Johnson - Cahill - Terry - Cole
Walcott - Barry - Gerrard - Lampard - Downing
Does your stomach turn inside out like mine does?
Terrible, terrible squad.
This was the chance to get rid of the old guard and start building a new team of exciting young players. Instead we have another tournament of Gerrard and Lampard, Terry and Barry.
Very very disappointed.
Roy basically had a free pass at this tournament to blood youth for the future; people's expectations were so low they'd have accepted a transitional tournament.
Now he's reverted to the same tired old guard, nothing has really changed and he'll be given a hell of a lot less patience now.
Yeah but I don't see who's bubbling under. Ox is going but him aside the future of English football doesn't look too clever. (ley)
If everybody's fit, then I would love to see a midfield three of Wilshere-Carrick-Rooney(playing just behind the striker who's gonna be Welbeck). Never gonna happen though.
I hope Roy tries out both Jones and Johnson at right back in the friendlies, and two variations of the front six also.
No good finding out that we have a fatl flaw in the first half hour against the French [an avoidable one that is].
Well how bizarre
Downing has been selected after 36 league games with 0 goals and 0 assists. What an example to set to other players looking to get into the set up. Basically have a left foot and you are in, no matter how crap you are.
I hope Danny Welbeck gets some game time as I think if England go for a Rooney-Welbeck front two we will at least see some entertaining football.
Add wilshire, Sturrage and welbeck to that. Not a bad set of youngsters to be fair.
Smalling, Jones, Cleverley, Welbeck, Sturridge, Wilshire, Chamberlain, Walker
I don't think England look too bad really Pete
At least SWP wasn't given his token ticket onto the plane. Suppose Downing going is even worse..worse than fecking SWP, that's saying something quite tragic.
Can just about add Joe Hart to that list, given he's a keeper. Rooney's got years left in him, too.
Manager: Harry Redknapp
-Lennon--J Cole--A Johnson-
Of course this doesn't include injured players like Walker, Smalling and Rodwell.
feck sake, all his answers are just: "I spoke to Kenny about it."
Q. Why is Jordan Henderson on stand-by?
Q. Was Andy Carroll selected on the basis of two performances against Chelsea?
A very weak forward line bearing in mind that Rooney is out for the first two games. Interesting to see how England would set up in the next two friendlies
Smalling and Wilshire will win WC 2014 single/double-handedly.
Yeah, and half of them are United players. Throw Rooney and Joe Hart in there and that still remains true.
Of course knowing England they will be careful not to exceed their limit by taking too many United players with them.
It'll be Cleverly getting ignored in the future.
The problem here appears to be one of usage, and Carrick is not the only oen to have suffered in this fashion for England during the era of the "golden generation". It could be argued that he, Scholes and Joe Cole never fulfilled their potential due to the obsession with Gerrard-Lampard in midfield.
Would Carrick be so reluctant if Hodgson had made it clear to him that he would be a certain starter? I would doubt it.
Some of those articles you have posted make me wonder if Roy's limited time in the job has led to an unhealthy dependency on the opinions of interests of club manages. Although even with just paper reports to look at some of his selections are perplexing to say the least.
Johnson -- Cahill -- Terry -- Cole
Barry -- Carrick -- Parker
Rooney -- Welbeck
That's the setup I would probably chose.
I don't feel that your wingers are good enough to justify playing them.
Your central midfielders on the other hand are quite good.
So some Italian style 4-3-1-2 like Milan is playing it would be a good option for you imo.
It would also allow Gerrard or Lampard to play in a position where I think they are most effective as attacking midfielders behind our proven striker partnership with Welbeck and Rooney.
Worst England squad I've ever seen. How Lampard and Gerrard still get in that team is a big question, what is absolutley laughable is having Downing or Henderson anywhere near it. Ferdinand is a much better defender than Terry, so I don't understand that one either. feck it, I could be here all night, suffice to say, barring a miracle, England will be a laughing stock again with this squad. It's a pity, a manager with some balls, picking fresh young talent could have brought ye a long way.
You'll probably end up going home at the group stages along with us Paddies.
So rely on Pearce and Kenny's opinion on players to form a national team. feck me.
Also while Cleverly may not have had a great season. He'd be a dam fecking site better than lampard chasing shadows against decent teams. Tom atleast has youth, speed and agility on his side. Not to mention his ability to link up well with Rooney and Welbeck.
Who did you have in mind? Smalling, Walker, Wilshere and Cleverley are obvious, but unavailable. Adam Johnson can't get a game for City which has to tell you something. Richards I would have liked to see, but I'm happy Jones got the spot. Rodwell? Henderson (I can't even believe he's listed as a possible backup - especially as Parker may miss out)? I've run out of names, unless you want to draft in some of the Swansea midfield.
Yes, it does.
He's at the wrong club and in danger of doing to his career what Scott Parker did through his move to Chelsea.
Johnson nonetheless made appeaances for England over the last twelve months, Hodgson simply preferred Downing as an option or to have Chamberlain as an observer.
I forgot Sturridge - but he's become more and more self obsessed and less productive as the season has gone on so I can understand it.
Some making out Carrick could still go if he's given the assurance he'd play Parkers starting role should he not recover from this injury he has.....that or Henderson coming from the standby.
I don't get it, I thought this and the standby list was final, what's the point in announcing it if you can change it? Like I could understand if you got like more injuries than are on your standby list.
A stand by list can be inflated as seen fit.
BBC are saying Carrick told them he didn't want to be considered If he was a bit part player but would play if needed.
Adam Johnson Played 41 times for City last season. Had more assists and goals than Downing so can't understand your argument.
Sturridge has looked very good for England and Chelsea at times this season. He can also cover wide or striker and gives flexibility to the formation.
Two of the best attacking talents we have left at home but we have milner and Downing on the plane, Crazy.
A lot rests on Welbeck in this squad to get us to the later rounds, knowing Roy he probably won't play.
Hart, Green, Ruddy
Johnson, Richards, Jones, Cahill, Lescott, Ferdinand, Cole, Baines
Lampard, Gerrard, Parker, Barry, Carrick
Johnson, Chamberlain, Young, Walcott, Rooney, Welbeck, Sturridge,
For Footballing reasons I would pick terry but I could not pick someone stripped of the captaincy twice and currently on a charge for racism.
I thought the idea for this tournament was to bed in youth and take a long view of getting the team together for the Brazil world cup?
That plan lasted all of five minutes.
Separate names with a comma.
