The mentality of the fans is wrong when a player as poor and limited as Tioté is wanted.

I think spending 50-60mil is within our means. Wages is the big problem.

I would be delighted if we signed Tiote; he would walk into our midfield. SAF could work on his temperament and cut out the silly yellow cards.

We need to get rid of some players in midfield before we can bring anyone in.

Well this is true. We have six who's primary position is CM.

    Carrick
    Fletcher
    Scholes
    Anderson
    Cleverley
    Giggs

Fletcher will go and we'll sign another ball winner imo. It would be a miracle if he manages to get to the level where he can start a game for us again.

Keep Carrick, he's been class this season.
Fletcher, we don't know if he'll ever be the same again.
Scholes for one more season wouldn't be bad.
    Anderson needs to go.
Cleverley is just getting started, and hopefully he can avoid injury.
Giggs, after this season, needs to be on the bench.

Fergie loves Fletch, there is no way he is letting Fletch go without him getting a chance to prove himself after his problems.

What does everyone think of the role Giggs can play next season?

He was good today, by far his best game in the last few months. It is sad to see but you can see his influence decreasing quite a bit.

Next season assuming we do add to the midfield you wonder were he will get games.

I can actually see us not buying a CM for next season  Fergie will come out and say Ando and Fletch are like new signings, bless him!

That's a pretty patronising way to view Fergie IMO

Never lived up to the promise and potential. Yes, injuries haven't helped him but after 5 years patience is running a bit thin now.

Speaking of Cm where was Cleverley today? Dropped or injured.

Fergie's been reluctant to throw Cleverley since he got back from his injury into the title race. I expect him be more involved if fit in the new season.

I think the plan is to use him in a bit part role, like Berbatov was this season. My reasoning is that Sir Alex gave his blessing for Giggs to play in the Olympics and with other players who we know are going to be important for us, Sir Alex refused to let them go.

I think that's the plan, but it seems no matter how many times we try to phase out Giggs and Scholes, they both keep delivering and earn their places back.

    Yes, 5 of them...

Ferdinand = Fitness issues, looks on way out to me.
Vidic = Top class (hopefully recovers fully)
Evans = has shown promise again after poor season last time, but still not convincing
Smalling = Looking solid bet for the future but young and error prone.
    Jones = As above.

I think Vidic and a top class CB with Evans, Jones, and Smalling competing for CB spot, plus Jones, Smalling can play RB when Rafa doesn't. I really think Ferdinand will become the bit part player.

Patronising or not it's probably 99% true....

From what I've read Fletcher is all set to try and come back in the summer and be involved in pre-season, Fergie came out just this morning and named Carrick off the back of this season as the man to replace Scholes long term and just last month he was talking up Anderson and how we'll reap the benefit's of him only being 23 (and I assume he didn't mean because of sell on factor)

It's depressing but it's true, we wont sign a central midfielder in the summer

Did he not looked bright at the start of the season? He's still young, so to say that he's never lived up to the promise and potential is impatience in my opinion.

Definitely need to address the CM. I'm more excited about seeinh how Hernandez, Wellbeck, Da Silvas, Jones, Smalling, and Cleverley crack on next year.

He did look bright. Him and Cleverley together in midfield were fresh and worked very well together, but injuries hit him again. True, not really his fault but we can't really afford to wait anymore. I think 5 years has been very patient.

Ofcourse we can afford to wait. He got time on his side, and seing as we might bring in a midfielder this summer, we can afford to give him the time he needs to get injury free and then some gametime. He's a great player, as he's shown several times.

I hope we sign two or three top players this summer. Not 'good' ones like Young, I mean real class that can make a difference. Basically the players City keep snapping up sigh

This is when the reality of Glazernomics really kicks in. Hazard and his ilk are fantasy, pretty much every name you read in the gossip columns over the summer are non starters.
We will probably end up letting Berba go, keeping Owen. Park, Giggs and Scholes all staying, no central midfield signing.
We sign a left-back and yet another winger.

Who would be real class? Hazard you'd say, but don't be surprised when he signs for City.

If we don't buy a midfielder that would be a huge decision from Fergie and one that would (correctly) be questioned/criticised.

    Surely it can't happen again?

After those Carrick/Fabregas quotes earlier I don't expect any Tiote/mvila type of players also.

I think we need to sign a couple of players who can give us more penetration, as well as keep the ball, operate in tight spaces, and play 1-touch football. I'd be happy with Kagawa and Lucas Moura for those roles to be honest. They're not established stars but they would help us.

I don't see us signing anyone of real class that will have an immediate impact on the team across a whole season. So no doubt you shall be depressed come next season.

Depends what the deal is with Fletcher. We can't go into next season with only one remotely defensive-minded central midfielder. Had Carrick got an injury like Vidic, we wouldn't have been close to City in the league and nowhere near a cup win.

We should try to get Martinez. He'd be perfect for our midfield and I don't think his wages would be astronomical. If he ends up at Real or Barca then fair enough but I hope we at least make an enquiry or put in a bid for him.

Carrick is the only midfielder we have that can be trusted. Giggs is old and was poor this season, Cleverley has the talent but is injury prone, Ando is too inconsistent and injury prone and we don't know what's happening with Fletcher. We really need 2 midfielders this transfer window.
