I just read that before his brace yesterday, Son of Spurs had gone 19 matches without a goal, which is quite the barren spell when you consider his position and role.

It strikes me that certain players escape scrutiny for seriously poor form and, as is the case with Son, even continue to receive quite good reviews.

Compare this to the criticism (fair, by the way) of someone like Alexis at United.

Can you think of any other players who get a similarly easy ride?

From our squad I'd say Matic, particularly from neutrals.

Spurs players, due to the English factor and Poch love story. Multiple Spurs players have regressed over the last 2 years. Dier, Rose, Alderweireld, Alli. Dier especially has been completely destroyed by Pochettino, looked a promising young player that now regularly puts in poor performances.

Anyone that someone might consider "class".

Someone doesnt score many goals or create them from an attacking position?

    "But he's class"

Henderson. The media praise him all the time but he's not very good.

Personally I don't think enough pundits come in for scrutiny.

You forget that we are Man Utd fans, so of course we aren’t as involved in the criticism of other players.

I have several mates of mine who insist Fellaini is a great player. They haven’t watched him as closely as I have over the past few years...

This. If he didn't start against Croatia, England might have won that game. Serious talk.

God yeah. Remember he was billed as some sort of demigod becasuse he done a-few fancy turns in the middle of the pitch. This is an English thing in general, any English player with any semblance of technique gets lauded as a world beater.

Happens when you've got a fierce attacking threat. If he was playing for United he'd get lambasted every week.

Surely not Kane though? He consistently delivered.

Every time Kane clatters into someone or clearly does an out of control challenge, it's brushed off.

Almost no one in the media talked about Kane and Alli putting in lunging tackles against City when they were being taught a footballing lesson. Almost no one talks about how Spurs in general start hacking players down when they are losing.

Deli ‘thug life’ alli. A player so dirty his manager defending him by saying cheating is part of the game. The pundits let him away with it, the fans let him away with it, he just gets away with being a really dirty player. I can’t explain it. Unless it’s because he’s English and condsidered some type of hero or something? I don’t know, I don’t get it. All I know is I remember he booted into one of our guys for no reason, and all anyone wanted to talk about after that was the stupid shit he did with his fingers on Twitter or whatever shit social media it was.

Spurs are a dirty team but he takes the cake for me. Glorified by fans and pundits a like, his antics dismissed as little more than being over zealous, which is bullshit. He’s a cnut, a top cnut.

Certainly Trippier. Whips in a decent cross but nothing else to his game imo. Liability defensively.

Yes it is because he is English. Kane has been apparently suffering from injury for months as a way to justify him being below par for several weeks. Yet he has played over and over and the manager has said nothing about injuries. Many commentators have even said that his injury 4 months ago is why he has been bad in some games now.

Fellaini is probably the last player to escape scrutiny, especially from our fans.

    Very true.

The lines “He’s been overplayed. He’s too honest to ask for a rest. He always makes himself available”....

Erm... no. That would make him an idiot who needs protecting from himself.

If the club doctors say he’s fit and the manager plays him, he’s as fit as everyone else.

He’s just been really shit since May.

None of our players escape my scrutiny so I can't say any of ours.

Dele Alli definitley. He's absolutely shit.

Mkhitaryan has been crap for Arsenal, not a word said.

Aguero is a fantastic striker but misses a fair few chances and has been annonymous in some of City's big games and European games over the past few years. Never really gets pointed out

Liverpool's new goalkeeper is actually a real spoofer, media trying to pretend he isn't.

Every mid table or relegation player.

It's becoming a big myth that English players or the England team are overhyped.

If anything no nation's football fans hates on their own as much as the English do. The newspapers don't speak for actual fans.

Dembele.. The spurs one! He runs around smashing peoples heads with his elbows and hands and gets absolutely no critisism from the commentators, pundits or the media in general. When he runs with with ball he uses his arms to push the opposition players away from getting close and always makes contact with their face.

With all the critisism that our very own Fellaini gets regarding his clumsiness.. it infuriates me that Dembele doesn't get pulled up on it. He did it agaisnt City on Monday night and the commentators on Talksport just said something like.. 'that looked like contact was made there by Dembele'. My brother who is a Spurs fan was at the game and he said it was his usual assault. !!

This thread is full of people naming players from other teams. Part of the reason they think these players escape scrutiny is because they are not Spurs fans or Liverpool fans or whoever.

Id probably say Kante, but that's mainly Linekers fault for being oddly infatuated with him.
I think there are more players that suffer the opposite though, in that they are top players but get overly scrutinised.

Dele Alli definitely gets away with how consistently shite he is for England.

He's got over 30 caps and I reckon he's played well about twice in that period. At a time when Sterling was getting a lot of attention for how crap he was for England Alli seemed to get away with it for a long time.

Feel the opposite. He gets lambasted constantly by both England and Liverpool fans.

He's not the most technically gifted midfielder, but a pretty good player to have in the squad.

I think I'm more against him playing the no. 6 role. I don't think he's suited to it at all.

I want him moved back to the attacking midfield position he played in during 13/14. He was great for us in Nov/Dec of that season, playing as the most advanced in a midfield of Lucas, Allen & Henderson.

He doesn't get into our best XI any more imo.
