What a player he was! If i had to pick a Captain, hardworking, driving, great allround midfielder for my alltime 11, he'd be the one.

    • Pirri: exceptional box-to-box/central midfielder with the Yeyé squad, and also a notable sweeper in defense — with a total of 172 goals for Madrid.
    • Fernando Hierro: 3 x Champions League winner as a defender, and once scored 21 goals in a single La Liga season from midfield (finishing 2nd in the Pichichi ranking) — some of them from penalties and free kicks, but still...those are peak Lampard figures!
    • Luis Suárez Miramontes: attacking inside forward or second striker, and later regista (most notably with Inter's Catenaccio team).
    • Andreas Brehme, Leovegildo Júnior and Hans-Peter Briegel: all three of them had standout performances in fullback/wingback and miscellaneous midfield roles. The former could also operate on both flanks at a high level.
    • Guido Buchwald: rugged stopper/marker in defense and “World Class” rated defensive midfielder by Kicker.
    • Franz Beckenbauer: arguably the greatest defender of all time, and also a GOAT level midfielder (especially under Schön, who liked to play Schulz in defense). Also Matthias Sammer, albeit at a lower level.
    • Maxime Bossis: resolute fullback on both flanks, and a very capable/classy central defender (most notably with the 1984 EURO winning team).
    • Bruno Conti: excellent winger (1982 World Cup being the highlight of his career), and also a very good central playmaker at Roma.

His technique was perfect for AM. The problem is we played him in a 2 man midfield with Carrick when it should have been a midfield 3.

Lahm as a left back, right back and central midfielder. Was world class in all those positions.

Paul Warhurst - Defender for Sheffield Wednesday that played in midfield and up front. Injuries to Wednesday's strikers (Hirst if you remember that!) forced the club to play Warhurst upfront and he went on to score 12 goals in 12 games.

In Championship Manager they had him down to play every position except for goalkeeper!

Wayne Rooney was a class striker, second striker and a decent central midfielder. Played left wing plenty of times in our CL winning season.

I think Ashley Young how now played every position for us bar GK. Probably only decent at right back and left winger though.

Yaya Toure. The dude played DM and CAM in different stages of the same game often.

A younger Thomas Muller could play across midfield and forward lines, centrally or on the right.

Some players are so good they can easily play in almost any position and excel.

A team of Zidanes? As much as I hate to say it, a team of Gerrards would be something. A team of Xavis? Pirlos? Man, there are many. Ferdinands? What about Roberto Carlos(ses?) Lahms? Yeah! A team of Yayas!

Pretty sure Giggs played fullback for us a few times and was excellent. His football IQ, technique and natual athleticism meant he could probably anywhere except CB.

John o'shea - full back (left and right), CB, DM. Also the occasional Fergie time striker and keeper (he did look decent vs spurs).

Can't believe it took so long for him to be mentioned.

LW in his breakthrough at Spurs and played as a proper winger.
RW for the majority of the period he was a world class player.
SS for Wales in the Euros and was fantastic

    My favorite Croatian player ever!

Was close to United at one point, but than got sick (hepatitis B) which made him take some time off the field and move never happened.

Shame really, he's only Croat I've ever wanted to see in United shirt.

Maldini springs to mind one of the best LBs and then CBs of all time. Phenomenal player. He was right footed as well.
