“When I was here before, Rio (Ferdinand) was captain. Patrice Evra was captain. Michael Carrick was also captain,“ Paul said. ”I went to Juventus and (Giorgio) Chiellini was the captain, and (Gianluigi) Buffon was the captain.

“I have learnt from all of them. I don’t think there is a book called 'How to be a Leader'. You are either a leader on the pitch and off the pitch or you are not.

“I have always loved the club. I have played for the Academy, I have played for the first team and it was a dream come true. And now it is even more of a dream come true, wearing this armband, because of the past: the players who have played here and those who have been wearing this.

“For me, when I have this I have the confidence of the fans, they all help me. My team-mates also and I want to give them love and good performances on the pitch.”

Pogba revealed that first-team coaches Carrick and Kieran McKenna both pointed out his Reds background was one of the reasons he was handed the job against Leicester and the midfielder insists that being captain doesn’t alter his mindset for a game.

“Carrick talked to me, with Kieran,” he said. “They came to me and spoke about Manchester United, big club, people look up to me, come from the Academy, stuff like that.

"So, obviously, if I can show the example as well for the players, if I can push the players and the players push me and trust me, it will be easier for me.

“But it's not just having the armband. I have always been talking to my team-mates. Having the armband, it's not like 'oh, I will show that I am a real captain and have to do extra work'.

“No, I just have to be myself and do what I can do and what I know to do.”

Had he learned anything from those captains he'd know to keep his mouth shut when it comes to feeding the media innuendoes

I like how this is basically the exact same interview as the "I'd be fined" one, except it's framed a lot more positively.

So conflicted at the minute with all the different stories.

Love the guy and hope he stays.

Him saying he loves the club didn't send the tabloids into as much of a spiral as him saying he can't say something in case he's fined.

There is constant talk of a dark cloud being over the club right now, but a great deal of it appears to be manufactured.

He should really just stay quiet and do his talking on the pitch.

If he really loves the club and wants to stay, I am sorry Jose, I am with him. I would rather see Jose out than him.

Yeah, even though I must admit I dislike all the diva stuff from Pogba, I am sort of with him on this.

Is what we've seen the past seasons with Jose really worth losing players like Martial and Pogba over? Meeh.

One of many reasons why I love having Carrick and McKenna at the club.

Which is hilarious because it was ultimately his decision. Scenes when he gives the captaincy to Fred next week and says it means nothing, just passing it around.

    Indeed.

He had an opportunity with this interview paint the picture that everything is hunky dory between Jose and himself, even if he doesn't mean it. A good captain has the clubs best interests at heart.

The idea of the manager and captain continuing this fued all season-long can only end badly for the club.

This is getting very boring now.

What actual evidence, at all, is there, that Pogba and Mourinho aren't capable of being at the same club?

What even hint of evidence at all is there that one will only stay if the other leaves or vice versa?

So he thanks everyone around the club - past and present - without single mention of the managers whose decision it is to make someone captain

Sorry, stoking the fire there. But he is much more of a leader it seems than Antonio. Anyone who is calling for him to leave is insane. He's the best outfield player we have by a significant margin. We look like a team who would struggle to reach top 4 without him, a certainty with him at the heart of our play.

I don't understand what he's doing  He's saying all the right things in this interview, but is polar opposite to his agenda from his quotes from Friday.

Smacks of some reactive PR by the club to me. Maybe I'm a cynic, but I'm not sure this would even be an article if he'd not said those things at the weekend.

These comments are from the post-Leicester interview if I'm not mistaken,I remember seeing these quotes reported over the weekend for all those trying to claim it's some PR spin from Pogba's camp...

Our ultra reactionary fanbase is even more so

Is it wrong that the #pogfeelings bit of his Facebook post is the thing that has most irritated me in all of this?

He's basically Apple if they were a footballer. You can't just trademark every single word or thing you do or say to your name.
