We appear to be bottling it
I just can't believe that game. Firstly the players have seriously had some mental lapses this season, at times we've shown no real urgency to do anything or we just switch of completely, that fourth goal for Everton was a joke. Think Fergie has to take some blame though. It was clear we needed to change something at 4-3 and I think Jones should have come on for Valencia, Welbeck moving wide earlier. Once it was 4-4 though, subbing on Jones made no sense as he just has no clue where to position himself in the middle and so we were slow to get the ball forward from the back.
Fellaini is giving us a hard time every time we play them. Must have won about every header today.
Still some positives from today's match. Ronney was class as was Welbeck and Nani, when we sort our defence out, we can win against City.
Was absolutely shocked when that happened.
Need to win, and we have Scholesy and Valencia off ?!
fecking joke! We have got away with it all season, but now the lack of defensive minded midfielders is taking it's toll. Scholes as good as he is on the ball offers almost nothing when the opponent has it.
Only 2 in the middle and one of them being Scholes gives the opportunity to control that area to the opponents. It found us out in Europe and again today.
Why the feck SAF didn't bring Jones on for Scholes when we went 4-2 up is beyond me. It may be a decision that proves very costly, we have just given City a huge boost and they now know 2 wins will put them top, and in pole position.
Hugely disappointing result!
That was a bottle job. Reminded me of that 3-3 draw against Everton at goodison park.
Shambolic defensive performance. To concede four goals at Old Trafford is not good enough. We just couldn't cope with those two everton lumps of shits up top.
I can't believe that Evra missed that header...
Shocking that was.
Even park would have been way better.
Jones has been awful this year.
Despite throwing away a two goal lead in the last ten minutes, the worst thing about it all is that the result is just about right.
I was at Goodison for the 3-3 last season and it was gutting, but it was in September. Today for the first time ever I feel physically sick about the result. It really does feel like we've chucked it away - which, unless these defenders pull their fingers out of their arses, we could well do on the 30th. The nerves leading up to next Monday...
In defense, we were way too slow to react. just pitiful
How the feck did we manage to feck that one up then? Our attacking was brilliant, especially in the second half but every good thing they did was cancelled out by shambolic defending. Twice we had a two goal lead, and they came back. Rafael defensively had a horror show today, as did evra. Rio and Evans weren't too great either. And jones for scholes? Why on earth would SAF do that when we need a goal and scholes was having a very good game. No idea why Valencia came off either, should have kept him on and brought off a defender.
C'mon, grow a set. You really think we're incapable of getting something at the Etihad?
To what? 4-5-1? Regardless, our back 4 was shambolic.
City are going to pull us to pieces at their gaff looking at that defensive display, thats why people are so fecking bothered by it.
If Evans and Ferdinand can't handle the movement of Felliani, Jelavic, Pienaar etc how are they going to cope with Tevez, Aguero, Silva, Toure?
Problem is probably mental. Clear as day we switched off.
I don't think we'll be seeing Rafael at City next week. Get Smalling in there. Lose a bit going forward but we'll gain a lot more solidity. The nerves will be jangling next Monday night now. These games actually suit us better because the players know they can't play the whole game in second gear.
It's not just them though it's the midfielders and particularly the fallbacks. Think we'll have to go to a three but the problem is we need a Fletcher like player in there to help Carrick out, which we simply don't have. Still I can't see them making the same mistakes next monday.
Which is why people are so pissed off.
How can you switch off at home for so long in the game when it is so important and your forward players are busting a gut for the cause?
I am fecking fuming
i think an important point is that Rooney was yelling at the backline to push up and they just wouldn't. A few minutes later, we concede. Just ridiculous. We've done enough throughout the season but that really shouldn't be happening.
It's killed us all season when we just drop back as if the game is already won and we dont finish the game off.
I'm the exact same. fecking simple mistakes at the back again today. Threw away the game.
It does look as though we don't have that ruthless edge that we've had in the past, but I think we also suffer from a degree of complacency - it was OT, we were winning 4-2, and sometimes the players do seem to have the attitude that they're United and the best - whereas I think that opinion is for the supporters, and the players should never get carried away with it.
Hopefully, we'll learn from today's mistakes.
This. It was obvious they were most threatening when we sat back, we should have kept playing at a higher tempo or gone 4-5-1 to secure the defence. Shot ourselves in the foot today.
Am going to put myself into a coma for next weeks game.
Moyes suggests it's even harder for teams to come to Old Trafford when the ref is like that, favoring the home team
He played down the game. Was disappointed to have been under, thought that was surprising. Didn't praise the comeback, said they definitely could draw. Cocky as feck.
Thing is I can see what he's saying but if you want to follow that though then we should have had a freekick anyway on Evans who was clearly fouled. Also if you look at pienaar it looks to me that he was ok, realised we were on the attack and then stayed down.
Yep, thats the worst thing about it. The forwards were absolutely brilliant yet the defenders couldnt be bothered to maintain a basic composed style till the end. complacency all around..
I can't wait to read noodlehair's summary of this game.
Has anyone ever asked the direct question as to why they play deeper once they're winning? We'd all like to know.
I don't understand moving Rooney to left wing when we needed a goal. He is the player most likely to score. Personally I'd keep him up front.
Don't deserve the title if we can't hold a 2 goal lead in the final 7 minutes against Everton in the situation we're in.
Completely and utterly bottled it. What was 8 will be 3 in a few short hours.
Well, at least it means we shouldn't have to worry about needing a win at Sunderland any more...
some quotes from the United facebook page. Made me feel a little bit better.
This has pissed me off all season. We've lost our ruthless streak.
In the past we'd keep attacking and end up battering the team we were playing. We look a far cry from them days.
What is it? arrogance?
Disgusted with some of the players and with Fergie. If we lose the title now it will serve them right because they won't get another chance for a few years. Fact.
Complacency, coming straight from fergie and into the players. Over and over again.
Is it a fact? Really?
