    That's not lucky...

We got lucky with their disallowed goal and I guess Antonio's shot, but that's about it

We were quite bad. Becoming a habit again. Worrying. Top 4, not with these performances.

The weekend after a big midweek CL match is always difficult.

Even during the glory years, poor bounce backs were common.

I was out drinking yesterday so I'm only watching the full 90 now. Despite having read this thread, I'm half expecting to see an okayish performance.

De Gea saying they were better than us was sad to hear because it's true. Only good thing is they see it too so hopefully some improvement

I don't know how you can make that judgement when we won as a result of two penalties.
Are you suggesting that West Ham wouldn't have given away those two penalties if Jose had been manager ?

Some of these players didnt even play against Barca. In fact Pogba, Fred and Lukaku were probably the only ones that didn’t look shite.

To be fair, we've taken our eyes off the ball ever since PSG.

I'm hoping for better focus from the next league game onwards. The CL has been an unnecessary distraction for a club still in transition.

We're risking losing it all for the sake of trying to win it all. That's for better established teams to attempt, not the current incarnation of United.

DDG has shown the opposition that he is very poor at his distribution and he must expect them to put him under much more pressure.
They will mark out defence forcing him to kick and a kick is at best 50/50 loosing possession.

I was referring to the luck we had to come away with 3 points in a game that we never dominated, didn't created anything of note, and actually got outplayed for large parts of it. We are currently toothless, but at least in the past we had the possession to believe we could be dangerous on the attack. Now we don't have the possession on the ball, and are still lacking in attacking prowess, well.... ability to put the ball in the net.

I remember a few years ago watching Rooney at the end of his time here, and his reluctance to shoot unless all the stars had 'aligned'. We now have that same problem it seems with all of our attacking players, with nobody wanting to take responsibility for having a shot at goal.

We need to invest in a world class striker in the summer at the very least, or this time next year we'll all still be shaking our heads at the lack of progression.

I've just finished watching the first half.

Defensively we played well. Near the box, we were okay, if not good. The issue was the link between the back 6 and the front 4.

Rashford is brilliant at dropping deep to help the transitions. Lukaku: not so much. And ordinarily, Lingard and Mata are great at it, too. But against West Ham, the latter two were shockingly bad at picking the right pockets.

The commentators kept talking about the game being open, but that's really an indictment of the lack of quality movement from the front players. The spaces were there to be occupied if only they'd done so.

very poor performance and I said in the match day thread we can know see that not all the problems were Jose's - six month's ago I got castigated for saying that.... today silence. Almost the entire squad could be sold and we wouldn't really miss anyone (not suggesting we should do that, of course). Almost no one deserves their place or to wear the shirt. this group of players are not good enough to be United regulars. we are at least three world-class players short of being assured of a top-four finish every season. And again I raise the question of why the club didn't stick of naming the permanent manger in the summer. As soon as Ole was conformed, performances dropped. PSG will turn out to be the high point - and interestingly Pogba was playing that night...

What I do find strange is only City and Liverpool have lost fewer games than us which must mean we aren't scoring enough goals.

Ss for performances on Saturday, Fred did quite well defensively, Lukaku made some quite good runs and found space but didn't get the ball, Dalot was OK. But DDG was at fault again with the goal: he put it in exactly the same area as with Fred last week and people only blamed Fred... now will they admit DDG's fault? In fact, he has been well below par all season (by his own very high standards of course). I'm afraid, Mata is finished and as far as I'm concerned Marital never really started. Both should go in the summer.. but not being the only ones. Lingard was an absolute joke and Poga was anonymous in the second half again

I'm suggesting that West Ham would have dominated and won anyway due to the insipid football Jose had us playing. Pogba wouldn't have been here to convert any pens.

Maybe but Jose did make us difficult to beat.
It all boils down to your view of Jose.
Mine is far less critical than most.
I am a firm believer in cause and effect.
There was a reason for his less than joyful behaviour.

Reckon we could cut the team since slack given the tough fixture schedule and draining games.

After 24 hours, I've come to this conclusion : Our players don't like the football. They are scared of it or they don't love it enough to make the effort to make themselves available to get it.

The first category, we have Smalling, Jones, Mata or Lingard and in the second, we have Martial, Lukaku and sometimes Pogba.

That lack of courage or effort is crazy and that's why I am so excited about OGS talking about "Survival of the fittest". If you don't have the character to play for this club, you're out.

Also next season, we need a better fitness coach but that's another concern.

Fair point. I played a drinking game where I took a shot after each sh*t cross by Lukaku and ended up needing my stomach pumped.

Is their LB, Masuaku, always that good? Or did he just look like a badass because he was up against Mata, Lingard, and Dalot?

Same question for Rice.... He looked great! Surely he isn't that good every week?

Its not a good sign when I am spending the matching thinking about which opposition players could improve our side. Maybe Felipe Anderson or Langzini or whatever? Surely they would both be upgrades on Lingard and Mata.

Rice is very very highly rated by the coaches and fans at West Ham.

A lot of fans want Bobby Moore’s number six shirt to come out of retirement and given to Rice.

What do United fans expect? It’s not Ole’s team. How many of the starting lineup would ye have in the side were ye the manager. Manchester United are where Liverpool found themselves when Roy Evans took over in 1994. United are miles behind Liverpool and MC in terms of squads and first team lineups. Considering the 100s of millions spent that is criminal.
The Ferguson days are over. Unless you have the funds and can finally get recruitment right ye face years more in the wilderness.

I was very impressed with Rice. High energy, smart tackling and decent passing.

The links to Real Madrid are hard to believe, but they're not completely mad.
