Why are people getting worked up about this? Okay, it’s not something to relish but we have had a bitter rival come to old Trafford and turn us over to win the title when we were actually in the race, and we’ve had aguero win it from us with the last kick of the season.

City deserve the title and if it happens to be us that has to acknowledge it then so be it, should do it the right way and give credit where it’s due. It means absolutely nothing and barring some bragging rights for some fans and city likely milking a photo op, these things get consigned to history pretty quickly, particularly when the reset button is hit in August,

Am I the only person not especially bothered by this? Seems like something the internet makes a bigger deal of than it actually is

I think it all depends on how many City friends you have! A couple of my best mates are blues and I'm sure they'll make sure it's a bigger thing than it actually is. If you don't have any direct contact with any, I'm sure it won't have much of an effect really. Everyone's different I suppose but for me it's all about how much stick you end up with

I don't want to see the guard of honour images/clips for the entirety of next season. Ditto for their celebrations if they win it against us. Not to mention the massive kick in the balls it would be to see it happen live too.

Not sure what's so tough to get about this.

I’d rather we relentlessly stepped on their heels as they walked out.

It will be hard to swallow for Mourinho facing Guardiola like that, but he might use it to try to instill some pride and anger in our young and old players.

If it was Spurs, they would do it.We might see two footed lunge from Alli too.

United gave Chelsea a guard of honour in 04/05, then Chelsea gave United a guard of honour a few years later. If it happens, hopefully it pumps them up for the games in the future.

    ^^Exactly this^^
Could be a blessing in disguise, if Mourinho can use it to create an atmosphere of focus and determination that this will NOT happen again..!!

If it were to happen, hopefully it serves as good motivation for next season and the end of this one.

I think I'd be more annoyed if it's City beating us that actually clinches them the title... but I would feel worse if that happened on our own patch, like it did against Arsenal way back when.

I think we should refuse to do it for them, they don't deserve it.

That would be really painful, but I'm not hugely sure I get the point of being that upset about a guard of honour.

Yeah, it's symbolic that City were good enough to win the title as early as they did, but we all know that anyway. I can't say I've particularly thought it was that humiliating for our rivals that have had to do it to us.

Isn't it the point of sport at the end of the day? You fight as hard and as long as you can, but if you're beaten by a better side you congratulate them and move on. If their title win had been mired in controversy then that would be one thing, but beyond the valid complaints about how they're funded I don't think you can begrudge them much on the pitch.

Same point with City mates really (although City fans are an odd, bitter breed), but simply being gracious in defeat usually kills the gloating stone dead.

Either way, the fact it's such a foregone conclusion makes it easier to swallow. Better than that Aguero goal anyway.

Usually, I'd agree with you but its City, deserved as it may be, I'd rather they get that guard of honour elsewhere. feck them.

Guard of honour would be the lesser of two evils as still to this day Arsenal go one about winning the title against us in 01

Oh I think we can all agree we'd all rather not have to do it than do it. I just don't think that it's that big an issue.

City fans will get more pleasure out of sour grapes and toy kicking than they will out of simply clapping their team onto the pitch.

Didn't SAF do the guard of honour against Chelsea as a form of motivation anyway? Don't think that lightning will quite strike twice, but we might as well do it, if it comes to that.

We can just send out a reserve team to lessen the pain.

City are a minnow. Nobody cares if they win the league, nobody outside of Manchester anyway. Liverpool on the other hand...

I’d be much happier with a guard of honour than them winning it against us, that’d be sickening.

I think the game is in between the two legs so no-one can complain if we send out a weakened side. Imagine if we drew City in the quarters though... 3 derbies in a row.

Once in a while I still see Arsenal's players giving RVP the GOH.
I think it's a bit more than nothing in this instance.
Much had been made of the Pep V Mourinho rivalry and how their two teams would be slugging it out, beating everyone else while driving the premier league to new heights.
What has happened is one team has left the other swimming in its slipstream.
Us giving them a guard of honour or them beating us to seal the title in what wasn't even a race would be a slap in the face.
Make no mistake, it will hurt Mourinho's pride.

Not really bothered because it lasts short, just like what OP mentioned.
The impact however, could be big, if it does happen I want it to give our players a kick in the arse and make them hate it.

at least its at Etihad, nobody will be there to see it

giving them a guard of honour at Old Trafford would be like another 6-1

I can't see Mourinho risking being humiliated by a cricket score minutes after giving Pep a guard of honour. Think he'll put out a decent team and shut up shop.

It's not compulsory. Why show City any respect after their pathetic "welcome to manchester" billboard for Tevez?

I feel like them winning the title in the match itself is worse than giving them a guard of honor cz in the latter case we can just send out reserves.

Agreed. I can't take them seriously if I'm being honest, that's just me though, I'm sure other people might have contrasting opinions.

The only ones who seem give the slightest crap about them are ABUs and only for the sole purpose of just rising United fans.

That's just petty. That was years ago and hardly a mark of disrespect. Just a bit of banter. The clubs are in good relations and show mutual respect on regular occasions.

They deserved the title and should get the guard of honor. It's not a big deal. Frankly, it would be pathetic and small-time not to do it and make it a talking point for a year. We win nothing from that.
