A day earlier than usual because Jose has a tax fraud case tomorrow.

If you all had supported Lukaku more, he'd have paid his taxes

Today's press conference is 24 hours earlier than usual as Mourinho is expected to be in Spain tomorrow to attend court over unpaid tax allegations.

But before he heads off to Spain he will be giving injury updates and team news.

Expect the United boss to be asked about Paul Pogba who is now back at Carrington.

While it's highly unlikely he will be featuring against Chelsea, Mourinho should hopefully be able to update his return date.

Marouane Fellaini should also be nearing a return from his knee ligament strain if initial estimates are correct.

United could have already been given a boost as N'Golo Kante will reportedly have to be 'persuaded' to play on Sunday after a month out with a hamstring injury.

Better bring out the popcorn for the unavoidable indignation that will follow whatever he has to say.

Sounds like there's a chance that Pogba might be back.

Again, home and away difference explains it a bit. But the manager is right, there's merit.

And/or Fellaini. Or, more probably, he just wants to keep Conte thinking about it.

Having both of them even on the bench/travelling squad would give a boost.

Seems like an extra short press conference. Next time he won't even bother sitting down. We might have to wait for the embargoed juicy bits later.

I don't see why though. Is it wrong for a manager to promote the achievements of his team?

He’s keeping his cards to his chest so Conte doesn’t know if Pogba is available.

Can’t blame him to be honest.

Honestly, he has gone a bit somber in last few weeks. One inspirational sentence with a smile could reduce a lot of negativity going around the club.

We don't have 6 injured players now, we have 2/3 without match rhythm (Rojo, Carrick, and then Shaw) and 3 still injured and not training yet (Fellaini, Pogba, Ibrahimović). And the Lingard situation, which is not clear.

Mourinho on his six injured players
I need to wait a little bit normally a press conference is a bit later in the week we still have Friday and Saturday.

Not very optimistic but I don’t want to lie or for you to say I have lied if I say no chance of recovery. We have Two more days to confirm my expectation.

I think next two days will be important for the decision.

    Mourinho on his court case
He was asked if it has been a distraction leading up to the game:

No, it’s just a change of normal training time because I want to be there and I can’t be there in the morning so I have to change the timings.

Mourinho on the criticism of performances
Here’s his latest take on people criticising his style of play:

I don’t want to comment. Because if I comment I’m going to do a job that’s not my job and sometimes I feel I could or should and sometimes I need to cool down and think I shouldn’t.

I know that it’s a different way of analysing things for this reason or that reason. Similar performances for some clubs are magic are examples of brilliant tactics and amazing attitude by the players and for other teams the same time of performance is seen as negative.

But honestly just as an example Spurs beat Liverpool and Real Madrid and Tottenham didn’t score against Manchester United so at least a little bit of credit my players deserve.

    Mourinho on returning to Chelsea
It’s not a big thing to return to Chelsea it’s normal it’s football it’s professionalism.

It’s football life one day you are in one club and then you are in another club it’s a big thing because it’s a big opponent.

A match between two top teams but the emotional point of view it’s just one more.

Mourinho on playing his former club
He was then asked if he enjoyed going back to Stamford Bridge:

I played there with Inter and twice with Manchester United. I have to admit it is a little bit different but in the end I want to win like I did with Inter.

They want to win like they did last season and it’s just one more day.

In a couple of years we will be even more natural and in even four or five years people will not remember I was Chelsea manager and it will become normal It’s just because i left a couple of years a go.

But it’s a big match because they are champions and we are Manchester United.

Mourinho's great response to one reporter
He was asked how much United have grown since they last played Chelsea:

“Maybe Rashford - two centimetres. Scott McTominay - three,”

Negativity? Sure there has been less than ideal publicity and stuff but we are sitting second in the league and have practically sealed our progression into the second round of the CL, haters can do one.

I think that was after the last league game last season.. He was fully focused on the final and left as the reporters were still doing pitch side interviews..
