So Qatar are sinking fek loads of cash into PSG, they are sinking considerably more money into the infrastructure for the world cup.

But what happens after the world cup - I know some people think they will drop PSG and the infrastructure will sit there unused but I'm not sure I envisage that.

As the world cup is in the winter all of the clubs (including the PL) are going to have to have winter breaks in place...

So in theory is Qatar decided to host an annual 32 team club competition for the top 32 clubs in Europe... (for example)

    Benfica, Sporting Lisbon, Porto
    Real, Barca, Athletico, Valencia
    Bayern, Dortmund, Shalke
    PSG, Marseillies, Monaco,
    Ajax, Feyenord, PSG
    AC, Inter, Juve, Roma, Lazio
Man United, ManCity, Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal, Liverpool
    Celtic, Rangers,
    Zenit, CSKA
    Dynamo Kiev

as I say just for example... they could do 24 clubs etc

But you have no other top level football on - 32 of the most popular clubs - the infrastructure in place - surely a huge boost every year for tourism to the country... plus establishing Qatar beyond its oil dependency

They could sell the rights for a fortune and well lets face it money is no object they could offer the clubs crazy money to take part... and lets face it clubs play a lot of friendlies in the winter break anyway so I'm sure with big bucks on the table they would be all over it.

I could actually see something like this happening - and personally I think it would be better than the actual world cup.

So the Champions League but in Qatar?

No thanks. I hope the 2022 World Cup is a shambles and quite frankly if England don't qualify I'll be delighted. It's a WC I probably won't take much of an interest in.

I'm confused. You propose this annual competition to take place in the summer or winter? The reason the WC is in the winter for 2022 is because it's almost hot enough to turn sand into glass there. Winter you say? No thanks. I fecking hate breaks from club football during the season and although you're proposing a club competition it would be no different than a AFCON or international break if it were held in the winter.

Terrible idea. Qatar should never have been awarded the WC anyway. Corruption beyond belief.

Why would top flight European football give up 1 month to play in Qatar every year?

because they all have a winter break (except the uk and we will by 2022) and they already travel all over the globe for money spinning friendlies

Can't see how this could ever work, there's simply no room in the schedule.

    Also, it's Qatar.

I thought it was irritating when people write Athletico instead of Atletico, but Quatar is another level.

Awful idea. Would alienate me from football of the highest level. How about a Sugar Daddy League for the oil clubs instead? Neymar Cup.

winter - and I agree they should have never got the world cup but they have and they have a fek ton of cash and seem intent on making themselves more of a destination beyond oil revenues - which a big football tournament would do

I can't see all the clubs + FIFA and UEFA agreeing to it, and only Germany and eastern Europe have a significant winter break.

Qatar is not the best place to attract many spectators. It can work for a world cup but fans won't travel thousands of miles to watch a glorified ICC.

But all leagues will have to have a 1 month by 2022 to facilitate the world cup

It will be a one time break, and can only work when there are no Euros or Copa Americas in the same year.

I don't know but I'm sure PL clubs would love to be able to do that.

Interrupting a domestic season to play glorified friendlies will never happen no matter how much money Qatar throw at it, people simply won't watch it. The ICC has shown that. Qatar doesn't have a domestic fanbase to fall back on and no-one is going to travel there to watch it. There's nothing there.

I still think the 2022 World Cup will be the end of FIFA as we know it and Qatar will be the villain. Either corruption is 'proven' and the WC is moved, or it is a huge failure and the football suffers as a whole. Qatar won't have a legacy at the end of either option.

Quatar is surprisingly satisfying to say out loud, especially when giving it a Bruce Lee chopsocky infliction.

I think you are right, leaving corruption aside for the moment the disruption for three seasons, the one before, during and the one after the WC in 2022, to the European leagues will be phenomenal.
I'm not sure how many fans realise this, especially those who normally buy season tickets, the disruption will be serious. Extensions and curtailments to normal season periods will mean losses, even now many people may miss early season matches Aug/Sept because of annual holidays etc. this will be much worse, for three seasons.
Sometimes the 'conspiracy theorists' believed that was Blatter's original intention, in considering the Qatar venue for the WC, knowing it would have to be moved to winter and therefore 'ipso facto' to break the monopoly of European leagues, by destroying audience viewing options and hence TV revenue?
