Pepe Reina caught in race row after Spanish TV advert pulled | Football | The Guardian
Footballers is mad stupid yo.
Liverpool in racism shock.
Worst racism ever?
Saw the ad. Not sure what the problem is.. Shit acting.. yes.. But Rooney is far far worse than that.
How is a linguistic mix up racist?
Rooney was funny though, that's how bad he was. I think the issue is Reina and the add stereotyping the tribe and not feeling safe around them, I think. I think people are being far too sensitive over this though.
Nah, his name is Reina, which means Queen, and the King gets to shag the Queen. Racism.
The problem is with the "othering" of the tribe. The fact that Africa is seen as tribal and savage like that.
Pepe obviously isn't a racist (well based on this), but it is a bit culturally insensitive. But it's been pulled, so I couldn't give a shit.
The ad's were so shit, I would have rejected them on the basis of shitness. Footballer's need to chill out a bit.
I really can't see much wrong in that to be honest, it's just a funny commercial.
It sounds a lot like nitpicking and overdramatisation to me.
I can see plenty wrong in this statement though
I think calling racism for no reason is a story.
I just think it's a case of overcompensating for all of the issues that have arisen in the past year regarding racism in football. The media thought it was gone for some weird reason but it's clearly not so they'll overcompensate for a bit before moving on.
Aye it's a dodgy ad but hardly makes Reina look a racist. Just a bit of a whore
What I think is more concerning is that Pepe apparently wears his Goalkeeping Jersey and Keeper Gloves wherever he goes.
I wonder how he operates the self-service checkouts..
Nothing wrong with it from what I can see? His name means queen in Spanish, so a king looks at him and says, "banga bang". Doesn't screen 'racist' to me.
He flaps at them.
Not even remotely racist. A poor attempt at shit stirring by the press here.
I dont even think its dodgy, unless there is some background story in Spain.
That ad by itself is perfectly fine.
Who is overcompensating? In Spain if anything they are a bit lax about racism in footbal.
What a load of rubbish (the article and Simon Woolley's comments). He criticises Reina there but how is it his "fault"? Shouldn't the blame be with those who actually came up with the concept for the advert? There seems to be no mention of that but he's having a go at Reina who was paid to star in many adverts for that company and not just that one where I don't see what the fuss is about.
I actually find it funny if not slightly bizarre. Someone care to explain the racial element to me?
That Simon Woolley guy and the Guardian for reporting it.
Welcome to the 21st century. It's fecking annoying
Reminds me of that KFC advert in Australia.
I think it's mad that it got pulled.
IF anything it's clearly homophobic... as Pepe is clearly scared of the good old rogering he's about to get.
It's also sexist too, as it suggests that you should be scared if a women is driving your bus....
How the feck is that racist?
I dunno, is not wanting to get a buggering homophobic?
It is if you tweet about it.
Oh, and lest we forget the subtle hint of rape that's in there too...
I fail to see the racism here.
that shitty tune is stuck in my head now......
It's getting to the point where racism is being diluted as a word, that advert is not racist.
Aye, it makes a mockery of it.
Not sure where the criticism of his acting is coming from, he made me chuckle a few times, completely forgot it was Reina for a split second.
He's better than Figo.
Separate names with a comma.
