Thoughts? Anyone here getting irritated by his "oh, the league is finished, United will win the title" comments, when it is obviously not?

Mind games or not, he looks like a cock...if anything, it will further motivate us.

He's making Benitez look like the master of mind games with them.

He's just being sarcastic. I would have probably done the same after the papers wrote them off.

The test of "mind games" is whether they work or not. Not whether your opponents fans think you're a cock.

If they are, so far they don't seem to be doing too badly..

It didn't exactly motivate us yesterday. If it is mindgames then he's doing a half-decent job.

I think it was an honest reaction to a question posed to a defeated man. I don't see why anyone is looking any further into them than that.

It should have been finished. We should have won at Wigan and Everton and strolling into the City game with an 8 point lead. Who would have thought we'd lose and draw those two games?

    Poor form IMO.

If your team is one victory at home shy from being top of the league, you're just sounding dishonest.

Er, isn't that the point of him doing it?

Him saying that means nothing to me, it should mean nothing to anyone at the club, whereas saying that our games against Swansea and Sunderland will be easy is for the ears of those clubs. And then there's his barbs at the refs when there's enough statistical evidence to make a mockery of the allegations that they've helped us any more than City this year.

He's basically doing what Fergie would be doing in his place. A wannabe, yes, but we can't complain. We don't need to either until we sack Fergie and replace him with Keegan.

No he's trying out the mind games but its unrelated to the spacattacks we've been prone to - this has happened in numerous run ins - relegation clubs upping their game and teams like Everton also taking points off us. I think its a complacency we can get sometimes when we relax too early. Hopefully we'll wake up before Monday. Any influence Mancini has is minimal - he's been crying about decisions only a couple of days ago so he and his team clearly ARE bothered about being in contention. He's just a bit crap at the mind games

I hear posters on here refuse to make match-day threads as they are bad luck.

Alternatively, Mancini's "mind-games" have made feck all difference one way or another and City have stopped dropping points through a combination of the enforced decision to replace Balotelli with Tevez and some relatively easy fixtures.

    Exactly this. Its sarcasm.

When he says “Its Finished” I think he is really saying well you lot in the press have already decided that its over.

But any half decent professional as he is will not give up until its impossible.

Exactly. It has nothing to do with "mind games" and everything to do with City finding a bit of form against some teams they should be beating handily. When Mancini said this, he had no idea how his team would play in the upcoming game and if anything they looked set to be in a downward spiral. He answered a question honestly, like he has been doing pretty much all season. His style has not changed, it's just the situation in which he has made such comments that has changed. Too much is being read into it.

These kind of post irritate me, Ferguson gets some stick on here for his formations/substitutions/tactics occasionally so please stop acting stupid.

Anyway, Mancini is just acting like a twat, the whole world knows that City can win it but Mancini is making it an awkward situation for himself and I wonder what his team are thinking, i bet they are really fed up of him but I think they will crack next week to us or newcastle but the league is far from over. A few of them might handle it (Yaya, Tevez, Hart, Kompany, Aguero etc) but the rest will not live up to the hype. We have a great chance but just that.

to be honest if they go on to win it (god forbid) then he will look a like a bit of a genius. Theoretically took the pressure off his City players by claiming the title was over.

At the same time if they lose it then he was the first to say so anyway.

It's also not worked for him. He said similar stuff before match weeks where we won and / or they dropped points

He just spouts something each time in the misguided hope it actually has an effect

    Which it doesn't

Mind games have absolutely no effect. It's a load of bollocks. Do you think we conceeded those two goals against Everton based on what Mancini had to say the other week?

His so called mind games have got feck all to do with us drawing and losing games. We are just lacking in some departments.

It's aimed at the journos and not freaking ManU out. It means he doesn't have to talk to them about it and has been very effective in that regard.

He deserves credit for the way his City side have responded to going 8 points behind that's for sure. Whether it was these comments in the media or something else he's got them firing again and there's no doubting the momentum is back with them.

That said, we're still in the box seat.

My god, some of you put so much stall on the crap that comes out of these idiots' mouths. None of what these 20 managers say has any real effect on performances on the pitch.

His 'we're not winning the league' did not cause you to play shit against Wigan. It didn't cause you to concede 2 stupid late goals against Everton. You did that all by yourselves.

Similarly, when making a list of the attributes that makes Ferguson such a good manager, the comments he makes to the media to 'psych out the opponent manager' would be just about bottom of the list.

And Liverpool didn't lose the league title because of Benitez's facts rant. Just as Barcelona didn't beat Real Madrid in the CL last season when Guardiola did something a bit similar. I remember a lot of the amateur psychologists on here predicting he'd cracked Benitez style. Of course, he hadn't and Barcelona went on to win the CL.

The funny thing is that their players think/say the opposite.

Fergie's mind games were much more sensible and never made himself look stupid or emotional.

I may never be able to proof this, but it's called mind games for a reason.

It does have effect on psychology. The fact that some of us have reacted in a variety of manner towards press releases means that the players probably experiences this as well (regardless of how small)

If Mancini had come out and say we smell like farts, and we dropped 5 points in 3 games, would that mean his comment is the reason we dropped points?

That is not the only reason of course, but to undermine the importance of "MORALE" is very naive.

If you want example, take alook at the scouse. I'm not saying it's due to mind games, but it's very visible what the lack of morale, unity and passion can do.

Its just been called mind games because fans and the media want to inject an extra little bit of excitement into proceedings. If Mancini were to say he'd had jam on toast for breakfast, people would be trying to say he's playing mind games. To me, it looks more like he's pissed off with how the media wrote off his team and now insists on being sarcastic.

There are some very good, very experienced players on both sides. League winners, CL winners, world cup winners. They aren't going to be affected by the words of men who've never had any training in psychology.

I doubt Mancini's comments were in your defence's minds when you conceded 4 at home at Everton. I don't quite buy that Rafael, Evra and Evans played crap because they'd heard Mancini say the title race was over.

I personally just think that fans want to find drama at every possible opportunity!
