Maybe its about time we cut Jose some slack.

Yes, we got out of the Champions league on the back of a utterly poor performance, against a side we should be winning on most days.

Yes, his style is a bit boring.

Yes, he can't seem to find the right chemistry in our attack in many games, maybe most.

And yes, he has been given millions after millions to spend

But I would take this season ahead of any of the ones after Fergie left.

Maybe Jose is a short term manager as he is often accused, but we as a fan base don't seem to be any different. Ignore some of the shortcoming of the short term. Get the inner Ty out of you and support the manager even after games like these.

You don't win every game. Fergie won 2 UCL titles only too. Fecks sake, he looked more relaxed after the match on my TV than most of you lot here.

Do you expect Fergie to be shouting Jose out from his seats in the executive box?

Agreed. Shocking result and poor performance today though. Although considering we’ve not even been been in a CL knockout round for 4 years it shouldn’t be that’s shocking. We have progressed, but not far enough.

I watch football to be entertained, and if we grind out to victory and win stuff I'll accept it, but I'm not going to sit here and pretend to be happy with the utter slop we get served up far too often.

I am pro Mou myself and I fully understand it takes time to rebuild, I think he has done a decent job so far BUT our extremely defensive approach against one of the worst last 16 sides is a disgrace really.

2 seasons? He's gotten the stability, I'd back him to get the chemistry as well over the next season.

Ah the only "he needs time" argument. I wonder where we'd be now if we ignored the alarm bells that rang during Moyes tenure and gave him 6 years to complete his master plan.

Rome isn't build in a day but we aren't Rome, we are a football club and with 5 transfer windows and near unlimited financial resources you would expect atleast a team that could play a bit better football and could win a CL match in OT against an average looking sevile.

Managers deserve time but not ages and you need to see good progress.

Any rationale supporter can forgive a bad performance. People's frustrations have boiled over because defeat to Sevilla at home is inexplicable.

And I'm playing fast and loose with the word 'performance' - we didn't do anything of the sort.

I'm a Mourinho advocate, but even I'm scratching my head with this defeat and fear the ramifications could be wider reaching.

This isn't just one bad performance, it's not an isolated incident. We've seen displays just like that far too often, it's a pattern.

Rome wasn’t built in a day, but it doesn’t take a manager 2 full transfer windows to make an major progression.

That list described in the OP does the exact opposite of making me want to cut our manager some slack

You see lesser clubs get a new manager who has far less money turn teams around much quicker than Jose has. We are far better off than we were, but that doesn't make our football excusable.

Cut him some slack? Sure but NOT for tonight's rubbish managing.

Deserve the harsh criticism for his rubbish tactics, player selections and decisions tonight.

I'd rather just cut him loose, that tonight was not only utterly inept, but bar Lukaku the players looked dispirited, all I see is him boring everyone senseless for another year, getting the odd big game result here and there where we play as the underdogs, which will draw his fanclub out, and ultimately end up where we are now, rattling around with the other 4 in City's wake while offering nothing at the top end of Europe.

Losing with tactics like today's should never be acceptable for any United team. I can accept losing to a better team as long as I feel the team did everything possible to win. But from a tactical perspective we showed no desire to win today and the results accurately reflect that.

Quite happy with where we are to be honest. Disgusted by todays performance but I'm not letting that dictate the general picture.

Mourinho has stick for spending a lot of money in a side that had Blind at CB, Schweini/Schneiderlin in midfield, no established centre forward and the likes of Memphis on the flanks. He's gone in and spend bucket loads out because he had to. He'll get us where we need to be.

Sadly Fellaini and Carrick need replacing badly this summer. I think his purchase of Pogba was wrong (said this at the time of the transfer) but he'll get it right in the middle to compliment Matic, which will make a big difference to our aesthetic performances and results.

Mourinho will always be judged more than others due to his brand of football. The well-established Beauty Bias is no exception when it comes to football.

The most spectacularly poorly timed thread in Caf history. If you put Glaston in charge of team affairs tonight, I doubt he could have done a better job of fecking us up. Jose can do one, as far as I'm concerned. I may reconsider in the morning.

To be fair to him I don't think the idea was to play as negatively as happened tonight. We didn't play with a three man midfield or 3-6-1 like sometimes, the team were supposed to attack but were instead tired, complacent and nervous. If you look around the team there aren't many leaders to prevent that on the pitch, and it's hard for the manager to predict the players would be so cowardly.

It's great that you're trying to get people to support the club and its manager in their time of need, but I'm pretty sure the content of your post will have the opposite affect.

You don't have a single positive word to say about Jose.

Mourinho can still foster spirit, a strong mentality and defensive organisation in his teams. But the game has evolved and he is tactically outdated, which means eventually he will lose the players. You can’t approach games like this.

Have sympathy with the general sentiment, but to use an analogy relevant to tonight, Rome also wasn't built by inviting barbarians to besiege the city and hoping for them to stab themselves before doing anything about it.

I don't disagree. But anything that has gone before, pales in comparison to tonight. Is this not the worst defeat post Ferguson? The manner of it.
