It's really not a laughable statement, it's certainly not as clear cut as people are making it out to be anyway. He really was exceptional this season.
He is a better striker now without question, at the expense of his overall game though. He's like the opposite of a player like Iniesta, who's overall game is amazing but relatively little end product.
He is not a playmaking forward like Messi or Rooney and it shows more in the Portuguese team where the chances don't come as often as it does for Madrid and you're required to do a bit more than get on the end of chances.
As such a player of Nani's qualities will probably outshine him more often than not in such a setup.
Is quite ridiculous. Even if you think he was better, it wasnt even close to being that clear cut.
Are the Euros considered part of the 2011-2012 season?
Because he's setting Poland/Ukraine alight.
I think the laughable bit was "There should be no argument about it"
I dont think people would laugh at anyone who thought he shaded it last season.
It is Laughable.
Messi is best player in the world, very clearly.
If Messi had scored lesser goals, he still would have been best.
Messi just is a better footballer than him.
Personally Ronaldo is no more as exciting as he used to be and somehow turned himself into outstanding goalscorer. He is not an amazing passer, doesn't defend, doesn't hold up the ball, relies too much on his team-mates.
Ronaldo needs Ferguson back in his career to get the best out of his ability.(while you may say scoring so many goals is infact getting best out of him, but it is infact limiting Ronaldo in long term.)
Not arguing at all that Messi is better, don't see how anyone could.
Doesn't necessarily mean he had the better season.
Shafted? You can't get "shafted" if the other player in question created over 100 goals for his own team, about 30 more than Ronaldo in fact.
If Ronaldo's overall game doesn't improve, i am sure proper football fans will find Rooney more enjoyable to watch & consider him as more reliable player.
It's amusing. When Ronaldo used to score more goals especially in the league and we would point out Messi's general play Cal? would go on and on about goals being paramount etc.
Now that Messi has more goals, somehow Ronaldo is still the better player.
It's not debatable at all, it was Messi, hence why he's been met with complete derision by everyone who read it.
It's amusing, when Ronaldo used to score more goals in the league and you lot go on and on about winning the trophies that matter, you lots will go on and on about the decisive goals being paramount etc.
Now that Ronaldo has the La Liga title, the winning goal in El Clasico, somehow Messi is still the better player.
See the way he talks about "El Clasico" in the singular now?
So fecking weird. It's like a form of mental illness.
Uh... If Ronaldo had been bothered to track back Denmark would have found it a lot harder to score both those goals because both crosses came from his flank where he just left Coentrão to be outnumbered.
In contrast: Nani made 6 (!!) interceptions on his flank to Ronaldo's non-existant defensive contribution AND provided an assist (also created 5 chances to Ronaldo's 1). Now if Cristiano had at least scored 1 of his 2 one-on-one's nobody would fault him for his lack of work-rate...
In 2 games, he's had 10 shots, 4 on target, 1/5 successful crosses, 0 successful dribbles, no goals and no assists. All relevant stats for a winger and all pretty indicitative of the quality of his performances so far.
Cal? using a green smiley () doesn't give your point more validity or weight. It's clear for a massive percentage of the CAF members that Messi is better than Ronaldo, with or without winning La Liga.
He's younger and he's clearly better, you're gonna have to accept it for your sanity sake
Clearly? On what basis? You are talking about all time great midfielders here. Those players have 3 or so CL titles to their name, have been the best players in the euro's and world cup, and are the very best in their respective positions.
I don't think Ronaldo is clearly better (if at all) in his position than Xavi or Iniesta are in their positions. Unless goals is the be all and end all of a football player, I don't see how one can say Ronaldo is miles ahead of those 2 players.
I agree with that comment. Xavi and Iniesta are sensational players. If they manage to win that tournament, they'll become absolute legends.
Iniesta will have a strong claim for second spot(if he doesn't have one already), if he scores around 15 goals to what he is doing already.
Ronaldo doesn't even do half of what Iniesta does on pitch.
feck, I had no idea goals didn't matter that much in football...
I'm starting to wonder why you always use a green smiley when you're talking about Messi-Ronaldo.
It comes across as the deranged laughter of someone who's lost their mind.
Which might not be too far from the truth. This whole Messi being obviously the best player in the world thing must be hitting him hard.
I think you're right, its to mask what must be a deep seated frustration... coz he does it every single time on this topic.
Maybe you might look at yourself and you'd find the answer.
This is from one page of the Messi thread
So dangerous tonight. Could easily have scored 5.
Two tap ins. He's shite.
Scored 2 should have had 6 doesn't produce enough in the big games.
When he stops doing his step overs and stupid shots from all kind of distances and angles, when he keeps his football simple, Ronaldo can be so much better
Two goals and two post hits. Sounds like had a really good game. Hope German TV shows the game in a summary now.
It's his mentality that separates him from most other players.
Sack Queiroz, sell Ronaldo.
He was excellent, back to his form of Euro 2004 with Portugal. He was making great runs and created two great chances for Nani and Coentrão.
Portugal were helped by the van Bommel-shaped hole in the Holland midfield though.
Much better today. 2 clinical goals and lots of shots
Immense performance from him today when it mattered, they couldn't cope with. However must say though the Dutch approach was just laughable really, decided just to stick all their attacking players on the pitch and just hoped they would rip Portugal apart. The amount of times Nani and Ronaldo were one on one with their average defence was scandalous really. Diabolical tactics from the Dutch today and Ronaldo won't have it as easy against better sides where they will double up on him like the Germans did.
The same goes for Nani.
Even with the game won he was busting a gut to try and get his hattrick. His appetite for goals is insatiable
Ronaldo's current play is like that of Pedro's debut season.
All runs & finishes, playmaking left for others.
Good game today though.
Best I've seen him play in ages. That was closer to what he was like at his best for you than what he's been doing for Madrid.
Separate names with a comma.
