    You can say that again.
It is about time Portugal win an international tournament like this one and they have a good chance.

Racing have scored 24 times, Ronaldo's scored 42 times.

Sounds like Racing are too greedy, shooting all the time when they're not in decent scoring positions. :smirk:

If they get out of their qualifying group they'll have done great.
I can't see it happening it though - though I would like it to happen.

Why not? It's not like Holland has a great recent history against us, I think we're pretty even with them on chances.

It's hard to tell. He came at a very difficult time there, They decided to resign from private training ground in order to gain more money from media, as it were to present all their stars, and there were quite a few back then, to public view. As if every training session was an open session where you come for autographs and pictures.

I've also read some articles about Queiroz complaining about receiving a sheet of paper with suggested line up before every game. For the record it's not like he started throwing excuses just after they had fired him, but ever since they appointed him.

As for the style we'll never know what would have happened because of that. Maybe you're right and Madrid just couldn't play organised football at the time, I think it was mainly due to having too many big names in one team. Something Mourinho comes close to deal with, but this Madrid side is in no way as overfilled with proven, established stars as Queiroz's side was.

Will depend hugely on his performance at the Euros now. Real have been overwhelmingly more consistent (not necessarilly better) than Barcelona in the league this season... but not solely because of Ronaldo, whereas his main rival for the Ballon d'Or has been carrying Barcelona the entire second half of the season.

    Top scorers in La Liga
    1. C. Ronaldo 43
    2. Messi 41
    3. Falcao 22
    4. Higuaín 21
    5. Benzema 20

Alexis Sánchez and Xavi are the next Barcelona players, with 11 and 10 league goals respectively.

    Top assisters in La Liga
    1. Özil 16
    2. Di Maria 15
    3. Messi 14
    4. C. Ronaldo 11
    5. Dani Alves 10

Maybe it will go to an 'outsider' à la Mario Gómez depending on how the CL/Euros go.

I don't really see how he deserves it without a doubt to be honest. I'd still say that Messi is edging it at the moment.

No without a doubt about it imo, not with them going out of europe too. Had they won it too, i'd think the 2 trophies would give him the edge. I still think Messi will nick it.

I'd say Ronaldo is the front runner (obviously unlike JakeC I feel there are other contendors). But Madrid will win La Liga and he has the chance to show his worth in the Euros which Messi does not.

But you other than those two you could see it going to someone like Gomez or even Robben as well depending on how their respective nations and Bayern do in the next couple of months.

Messi and Ronaldo are the only two who deserve it. If Ronaldo wins euro then he wins it but otherwise everyone will probably choose messi since he is the most loved currently.

I think he's on par with Messi in the league. Don't know about the CL, Messi broke the several CL records but he was very underwhelming against Chelsea.

I can't see Portugal winning the Euros, but I hope Ronaldo has a good tournament personally.

It is a blow that Real failed in the CL, but then so did Barcelona.

I think Ronaldo does need to perform in the Euros if he's to take the ballon d'Or.

Yup, I think that if he perform in the Euros he will be nailed on for the Ballon d'Or. If he doesn't he should still be in with a good shout with the La Liga title + possibly the Pichichi.

Portugal will do well to get out of their group in the euros. Ronaldo isn't exactly renowned for his performances for his country either..

If he does do well in the Euros, that could help him seal it, but I don't see him having a particularly great tournament for his standards if I'm being honest.

Portugal will struggle to progress beyond their group, while we have seen Ronaldo become frustrated and isolated when things don't go to plan with his country.

Massively missing Cristiano today. No way we lose last night if we still had Ronaldo. What a massive player he was for us. Nobody in that class anywhere on the market. Even in his last season when he was sulking for Madrid he dragged us out of 'it' so many times. Damn those were the days...

Yeah, we never lost any big games with him in the side.

Oh wait. We did. Lots of them.

If Ronaldo played last night for us, chances are Rooney would be out left and we would still struggle. Champions league final in 2009 anyone? If your front man is isolated with little to no support whenever he actually gets the ball, then chances are it's going to be a long frustrating night.

Not only is the idea about crying over an ex-player after losing a game a little pathetic, IMO, you're also not making an sense. In Ronaldo's last season we lost home and away against Liverpool and away against Arsenal...that's the same number of losses we've had overall in the big games this year, but losing 4-1 against Liverpool was very possibly even worse than the 6-1 v City. In fact, 3 losses in big domestic games is pretty much standard for us:

    09/10:
    Chelsea x 2 (+ CS loss)
    Liverpool

    08/09:
    Liverpool x 2
    Arsenal

    07/08:
    Chelsea x 1
    City x 2

    06/07:
    Arsenal x 2
    Chelsea (FA Cup Final)

    05/06:
    Chelsea
    Liverpool
    City

    04/05:
    Chelsea x 2
    Arsenal (FA Cup final, pens)

    03/04:
    Chelsea
    City (4-1)
    Liverpool

So, yeah, it's happened every year he's been here. This year we're better off than most years in terms of how we've performed in the big domestic games.

What would Ronaldo have done to change the game? Bearing in mind Utd hardly created a chance.

Are you seriously asking what Ronaldo could have done had he been there instead of Park or Giggs going up against Zabaleta? Can't you answer that for yourself?

He left in 2009. I think it's time to stop saying we would've won games with him. What next? We would've won with Cantona last night?

This is the thing, Ronaldo would have at least let fly from distance a few times and test hart out (who looked dodgy by his standards). If FIFA has taught me anythins it that "you can't win a raffle if you don't buy a ticket"

Bobby Charlton was in Madrid this week, meeting Di Stefano and arranging an old boys charity match Real Madrid Vs United. Of course they asked about Ronaldo.

Do you miss Cristiano in Manchester?

We have very good players in the team. Cristiano made his mark and now others make theirs.

44 goals in 36 games - where can he go now?

His ceiling? I've asked myself that. He's become a player insatiable in front of goal. A phenomenon. He lives for goals and each game and each season he wants more. Except when he took that penalty against Athletic - what a bad shot!

    Messi or Ronaldo?

I don't know, but I like watching them play. Messi is a splendid player, but for me, he's not better than Cristiano.

    Is this his best moment?

No, that was in Manchester... (laughs).

    Please explain

Here - his success wasn't immediate - people booed him at times. Right? At Old Trafford they never whistled him.

Ronaldo is clearly incapable of scoring good goals, all of them are tap ins or penalties. I wish he'd contribute more to the attacking play of Madrid aswell, a poor man's Heskey.

    Sack Jose, sell Ronnie.
