True since Moses dismantle the leaders from the squad. Thing is Rooney is shooting his own foot. He is very bad captain. Arguably he made it worse than it was by setting bad example for a captain to fail as carrying his own weight.

“Over the last few years, it was down to me and Michael Carrick to keep the new players maintaining those standards."

You mean your responsibilities as a captain?

Jose is about to create that atmosphere again. And if it was down to him, well then he did a pretty shitty job himself

With Mou at the head instilling the standards again, we'll be fine.

Didn't read the article but this line is baffling. Until Rooney being removed from undroppable status, he was the one who more often than not lower the standard of the team the last few years. Feel like a paradox what Rooney is saying here.

Getting your fat arse out the club was the first step to instilling the right mentality within the club once again. Shite leader for club and country having the cheek to make a comment about him maintaining standards.

He has a point, but thats because we relied on him, Carrick and the chuckle brothers to step up into leaders and top players. Carrick is old now, Rooney is a shadow and Smalling/Jones are more or less useless for leadership purposes. What happened is that since Moyes and during van Gaal, we lost many leaders and didnt replace them and players didnt step up.

Rooney was a terrible captain/leader for Utd and at the moment we have no what you'd define as a stand out leader. That's the long and short of that.

Wonder which players he's talking about? The fact that it could be any number of them suggests that he does indeed have a point, albeit it is a bit rich coming from him.

It didn't need saying. It's Rooney washing his hands of all responsibility once again. He's left a club that has done everything for him during his career here. It's time to keep his mouth firmly shut and show the club the respect it is due.

Making Michael Carrick captain hasn't helped. Herrera should have been captain and just having it that anyone on that day might be captain if Michael isn't playing doesn't really help.

Sorry but wasn't HE meant to be the leader as our captain?? :houllier:

If we were lacking leadership, he has a lot to answer for.

“Over the last few years, it was down to me and Michael Carrick to keep the new players maintaining those standards."

Yeah sure pal. Keeping those lofty standards that has seen us go from winning league titles to dropping to sixth or seventh.

I wonder if Rooney had not shown the new guys the standard perhaps we should be able to challenge for title this past season? I meant Chelsea was not doing any better than us at that point... :wenger:

Ironically, this is exactly why he has been such a terrible captain for us. He takes absolutely zero responsibility. Compare that to someone like Keane or Neville who always held themselves to their own high standards and as such could hold the rest of the squad to them.

Rooney has got that classic scouser mentality. Always the victim, it's never his fault.

It's hardly a controversial opinion but it's a bit unprofessional to say it. Evidently let his emotions get the better of him there.

He seems to tell everyone that United stand to lose for selling him.lol
But his attitude not surprising me.When every new manager came in he praised them to the sky but when the manager gets sacked he's the first giving out the dig.
So he doesn't deserve my respect. For me he's just United ex-player, not more than that.
