    From the BBC:

"Either he accepts the contract or we sell the player," said Koeman.

"But if you need so much time then you have doubts - I like to work with players who like to stay."

The Dutchman said the Everton board had tried "for a long time" to get Barkley to sign and were already looking at replacements in attacking positions.

He added: "We don't wait till August - next weekend we need an answer."

I wonder how much he will fetch them? Any interest from the Caf?

Don´t like him at all.. Think he is way overpriced and overhyped.

I'd take Barkley. He's a good player, and would happily see Rooney go and Barkley come in to replace him.

I'm of the opinion we need more british players in the squad.

I expect one of the big clubs to take him just because he's English. He's not particularly good.

I think the Barkley ship has sailed. Still youngish of course but I would be really surprised if he gets to anything better than, say,
the level of someone like Cabaye.

Aye I would take him in exchane for Rooney, he would offer more and would be an Englishman in the side.

I don't think he's any better than Mhiki or Mata - forget nationality - buy the best

I'd happily see Rooney go and Cleverley replace him.

I think everybody is desperate for Rooney to go.

Mourinho rates him. At a good price I'd gladly have him as a squad player with the potential to be something more.

He'd add pace and power off the bench, would be a solid squad player.

For the starting 11: yes. But the best. For the squad: not really.
Potential to be the best works just fine. I love Lingatd but I'd gladly have Barkley as the first option of the bench instead of him for example.

If you are a Toffee fan, have to be more than a little concerned despite deep pocketed ownership and new stadium on the way - several players have either struggled with coaches or development

Would love him at club. He's got talent to burn and is worth lumping 30 million on to see if he can take the next step under Utd/Mourinho. We've bought some average uninspiring artless mid range fare in the last few years, Barkley could easily outdo them.

How many squad players can a team have? We need quality.

I'd definitely take him. English with a lot of potential and contract expiring at a good age. Yes from me.

Even the bench needs quality. No one wins things on 3-4 fronts with just 11-13 quality starters.

I think there's a player somewhere in there with him. I don't think he's one of the best prospects around, but in the right system with the right kind of manager he could thrive. He needs to reign in his more expressive, selfish tendencies if he wants to be a midfielder. However, I think he might be off to City and that would be a mistake for him. Would languish there and struggle to be a part of their first XI.

How can Dier be so unwanted on here and yet Barkley is wanted?!

Dier is twice as good as Barkley

We have very poor tactical options off the bench, everyone is very one paced and there is very little flair or pace/power to come and change a game up.

Guys like Ox, Barkley, Mahrez.. for me these would enhance any squad in top four but especially our side which is the most one paced team in the top 6.

I also think they'd be good tactical fits in a Jose team as they're the type of players who can carry an attack without needing to be in a possession style side to work. They're all pretty physical.

Mediocre or unproven at the highest level - squad players at best.

He'll be a mid table player or a squad player for a top team. He's found his level. We need better players than our current ones, not equivalents.

Tbf there's little wrong with having a strong English core on the bench. The point is to have it.

Bartley is turd tight now but has time on his side.

Presentlt he's not even good enough for Everton, he should work his way up again from a West Ham level.

I think we should target really talented English young players, like Demari Grey for example. He could be good competition for the left spot, a good replacement for Young. No point buying English for the sake of it. We need players to improve and challenge our current 11, Delli Ali would do that, Barkley won't.

Didn't deny that at all, problem is are we just having a strong English core for the sake of pride/nationalism?

Last time I checked the most of the English players just aren't very good, or at least inexperienced both internationally and in Europe.

Look at Real Madrid and see what the squad of an elite team should look like.

You dont go out of our way to buy players like Ox and Barkley. That space on the bench should be reserved for your earlier transfers that didnt live up to expectation or are no longer able to do so.

That money is better spent buying a younger talent that has shown a higher ceiling.

Barkley is better suited to the Everton, Westham and co.

He's decent enough, but surely he would just get in the way of Pogba in midfield, who is a far superior player.

He's a bit like Mkhitaryan, brilliant change of pace and capable of the spectacular but never manages the consistency. The one talent from Everton I would like to sign is Davies who has the potential to be a quality box to box midfielder.

You can't jump from sixth in the EPL to Real Madrid squad. Also Real Madrid are in a unique position where they can hoard great players and treat them like bitches, even under Fergie we never had that allure to make great players stay on the bench. United traditionally has a big squad but big quality differential from first team to bench players.

As for the bit in bold, I agree about that.. but if we can get them at bargain prices, then we'd be better off getting these guys in otherwise spend big bucks to just get in first teamers.

May get slaughtered for this but

    Lingard > Barkley

and Lingard will amount to more in his career than Barkley (already has an important FA Cup Final Winner under his belt).

For the record, Lingard is a fantastic squad player not a regular starter for a top Man Utd team but the kind of player you need over the course of 60 games a season.

Agreed. Lingard definitely has the higher football iq while the only edge I would give to Barkley is speed and size.
