I still reckon this might be their way of letting Levy know they won't be held to ransom.
Here's the statement: http://www.thefa.com/TheFA/NewsAndFeatures/2012/statement-roy-hodgson-300412.aspx
Would really like to see Woy the Owl get it, deserves a chance but I have an irrational hatred for that corrupt plastic bag faced cockney twat so would quite like to see 'Arry feck it up big time.
The statement was unnecessary if they are considering other managers.
Hopefully he'll get it.. he has said before he wants it.
Yeah, the statement certainly suggests he's their guy.
Yep it is an odd statement but looks like it is saying that Roy is the only person they're considering and if he wants it the job is his. I hope he gets it too.
I thought it was supposed to be 'Arry! Probably should have focused on Spurs instead of England and they might have done better.
Would laugh at Harry
Should he get it, I'm not sure he has the charisma to win over the press but you never know.
Woy deserves his chance and would be a good choice if they are only looking at English managers. I think he would be a better choice than Harry Redknapp although Harry seems to be the popular choice and has almost everyone's backing.
Nice, I think he'd be a better appointment than Redknapp.
Although, I don't think he dealt with the pressure at Liverpool all that well, but it's probably unfair to judge him on that given his position was made pretty much untenable by the fans etc.
I wonder what he is thinking now. Pretty much everyone thought the job was in the bag for him.
'Arry will probably buy a used car, turn it for a profit, buy another slightly worse, albeit cheaper used car and top himself in it with a hose pipe.
Makes all those players on twitter who said they wanted Harry to be the next manager look like idiots...
But then it doesnt take much to make Rooney look stupid.
I think it's a recipe for disaster if I'm being honest when you look at what happened with Hodgson at Liverpool. It's no myth at all that he's clearly a manager who operates best when given a team battling relegation and slightly overachieves by taking them to a mid-table position. That's how he's worked best in this league. Generally though, you get the idea that, for whatever reason, he's not particularly good with big sides. At Liverpool, he had a team which felt they were better than they really were and expected more than they could expect. Sound familiar? Yep, it's the exact same as the English national team. There are certainly worse options, but the fact Hodgson is the most credible candidate really shows the poor standard of English managers at the moment.
To be honest, the expectations for England seem somewhat subdued this time around. Maybe the hype just hasn't started yet, what do I know.
Regardless, I think Hodgson will do a good job should he end up being appointed.
He was never backed at Liverpool and had a bunch of shit players who didn't want to play for him. I wouldn't mind him or Redknapp. Roy probably has the edge tactically whereas Redknapp would have the passion that has been missing. Are there any other candidates?
This will not end well with the tabloids.
I really want 'Arry to get it so I can laugh at him crashing and burning.
He's more tactically astute than Redknapp......but how he'll cope with the players disappointment after they ALL nearly pretty much vouched and next to demanded Redknapp is another thing. If they get over it quickly....I'm sound with Hodgson for a while.
But now obviously the press will change requirements....for Arry it was "we ain't getting out the group, so this tournament will be him getting used to the team and them getting experience", now Woy will probably get hounded for failing to get out of the group stages "SHOULD OF GOT HARRY, KNEW HE WAS THE MAN"
And when he wins it, I'm gonna be drunk as feck.
Maybe Spurs will actually finish 4th now that 'Arry's courtship of the FA has failed.
He has another Taylor or McClaren written all over him.
Maybe Harry told the FA not to consider him. That health scare might have made his mind up.
It'll all the more amusing when they clamor for Harry before Brazil.
The Owlman Cometh.
I think that is unlikely. If that were the case then Harry would have made it clear via the media that he didn't want the job and we would have been saved this speculation over the past few months. Instead he's been teasing the media and even his own players (Bale for one) has said that he should get it.
I would love him to get the job, he's such a gentleman
If you've restricted yourself to an English manager only, this isn't a bad choice - there weren't that many options anyway and he's got loads of international experience. The problem is the restricting part. Capello didn't work out, but the idea behind the appointment wasn't wrong. Hodgeson may do an OK job, I don't know, but it'll just continue the yo-yo and next time it'll be a foreign one again.
International experience is the only positive thing I can think about
This is hilarious
Whos got that gif of roy smacking his head against the wall in-game?
I can forsee a future of that for a long time.
That may be true, but I'd doubt if it was, he'd keep quiet on it, especially with the teams he's currently managing on such a free fall since the Harry-England thing came up. He would of instantly come out and no chanced it.
Though surely the England job is better in terms of health anyway since the press love him and won't stress him out as much as they will anyone else -_-
I've merged all the posts from the other thread as it was becoming a pain in the arse. If, as inevitably I will have, I've ballsed it up, I don't care, don't PM me.
Did a very good job for Switzerland.
He's the best short term option. Better tactically than Redknapp and also less of a bellend.
I also think he'll be there just to take over for the Euros, then after we'll hopefully look to employ a younger manager who can form a team over the next few years. Similar to what Speed was doing with Wales.
I think in some cases there is such thing as being too nice a guy for certain jobs. As already mentioned the media would probably him a relentless treatment, dwarfing the pathetic treatment he got at the hands of Liverpool.
Personally I'd like him for the role and I think he might be able to get England to actually start playing some decent football, but something tells me he doesn't even the resilience to deal with the inevitable media circus.
So Hodgson is the most credible candidate? I would agree, he is.
I think he would be a better England manager then Redknapp. Does have some International pedigree, did well for Switzerland, good friends with FIFA and UEFA. Plus if Moratti likes him, can't be all too bad?
Separate names with a comma.
