So....who do you think will win ?
Russia, I've got money on it
I mean France
I wouldn't say there is a clear favourite.
I certainly wouldn't expect any of the South American countries to be that competitive in Russia, if I was pushed it would be between Germany, Italy and France.
On paper, France, but football doesn't work like that anyway.
On paper, France have an excellent chance. But who knows, I'll make an informed decision when we know who's there.
America will lose to Russian in the final.
"and Trump can barely hide his excitement..."
France would be my pick and probably should win it.
In order of likelihood of winning IMO
Germany (almost impossible win a World Cup)
Belgium (Surely Martinez can't win the World Cup)
I really would be surprised if it's not Spain, Brazil, France or Germany.
Obligatory 'where's the white text?' reply.
It will probably be a dull World Cup on the pitch, probably won by the team who look the least shite and don't concede many goals so Germany or Italy. Maybe the hype will be there nearer the time but there's a feeling of dread about this World Cup more than anything else. Travelling will be a nightmare, the country itself is mad and it's the result of old Sepp and his pals taking the cash, although you could say that about other World Cup bids before this. At least it's not in Qatar, imagine how bad that would be. Thankfully that's just all hypothetical and even FIFA would never be stupid enough to award a World Cup to a country with a terrible human rights record and heat so scorching it would need to be played in winter, right.
Realistically, the same teams will most likely win it and make deep runs. Brazil, Germany and Italy are to the World Cup what Bayern, Real and Barca have been to the CL especially of late. More often then not, they win the World Cup. Then you have the France, Argentina and Spain(over the last couple of years has entered the discussion) group that are anomalies. They can make deep runs, reach a final from time to time and ultimately win but don't win as often as the big three.
and England are Arsenal
I can see this being full of hooliganism, policy brutality, and monkey chants.
In terms of who might win - I'd have to go with France.
I T A L I A
I have a weird feeling Spain will make the finals. France will massively dissapoint imo.
Not that weird. They have a cracking group of players and are stacked in certain positions.
Great GK, great full-backs, very experienced CB pairing, about 10 midfielders worthy of starting and in Costa, Morata, good enough forwards.
Can't see Spain doing it again next year. They lack the cohesion and magic they had in 08-12.
Putin will want to put up a nice face of Russia so probably just police brutality.
I'd go with Argentina.
Italy or Brazil for me....
Can't see France winning it. They will have the best squad going there but so did the Holland teams back in the 90's and early 20's and they won nothing either.
Russia with Putin to score with a puck into the top corner beyond Brad Guzan.
lol...well since they actually exported professional hooligans in 14, I'd imagine they will put on a proper show back home.
I think France will win it.
Russia will and should make a giant effort to make this event a chance to clean up their image
Could be a great thing, hope it's not a disaster
I know but as I said I expect them to control that (or employ them in Police ). THey will want to make it look as if there's no problems at all there and stuff.
Hope springs eternal....Last time they had a big event, they used the attention to invade a neighbor and steal its land.
No doubt, but nobody else really has a team that's tearing it up. If France clicked perhaps, but Deschamps is a bit shit.
Messi will win it with Argentina.
I'd actually hate that. The sucking off of Messi would be unbearable. He could score or assist zero, get red carded, miss a penalty in the final and would be praised endlessly.
Would love to see Messi finally win it. Apart from that it'll be the usual suspects most likely. Germany/Brazil/Spain/France and probably Portugal going deep. Portugal always seem to go deep in these competitions.
What will likely be more interesting than the world cup is whatever carnage occurs due to the political climate. I say interesting but its more sad really.
Putin, Trump, FIFA, and the Russian oligarchs.
If it was this summer, Brazil wins it. You have to wonder if Marcelo and Alves look this good with one more season on their backs.
Unfortunately for us more in the Euros, the winner will come from France/Brasil/Germany/Argentina/Italy.
Final will be Portugal v Argentina in a legend v icon match. Messi will win and Ronaldo will retire as they hug in an iconic moment.
We have aging central defenders and we don't have alternative for Raphael Guerreiro, better defensive midfielders than WC or Danilo and better strikers than Andre Silva, not going to happen for us, Argentina if Sampaoli goes there they still have their chances.
Story of Brazil the last couple of World Cups, our players balling and peaking the year before the tournament.
Brazil have a hell of a squad, Marcelo, Alves, Casemiro and Neymar are all playing at the highest level and they've got other talent like Coutinho and Jesus going forward. Shame their team wasn't like this in 2014.
Don't forget the 23rd new Luis Ronaldo - Gabriel Jesus.
Edit...just saw you included him.
