Yup, our defense was still shaky as feck, even with him in the team.

Oh ffs - the other one was against Bent - more torpedo like, totally creamed him.

    Giggs lack of appreciation? Hmm

Just checked...we only conceded two goals in the Premiership games he played. One of those was the penalty that never was against Newcastle. The other De Gea fumbling the ball into his own net against West Brom.

Other four games were all 1-0 wins where we played poorly and our defence basically won us the game.

    Try again!

He was completely fine in this game. He went off injured at half time I believe, but 'not playing particularly well' is wrong - and hey I guess I am being biased again by pointing it out.

When he came back against Everton, (after the 6-1 loss against City) United won 5 league games in a row conceding one goal which was a penalty against Newcastle. So he was one of the best players during the spell.

Was Carrick playing in those games?

Dunno, that's impressive to be fair, but Evans and Rio have both been excellent this season, I don't think Vidic's absence has buggered us over as much as people think. A lot of our goals were conceded because of our midfield, if it was Carrick who was out for that length I think it'd have ended up much worse.

    Yes he did.

Which is why I find it strange you would single him out as "our best player" leading up to the injury against Basle, seeing as he barely featured. Plenty of far more deserving contenders for that period of time.

Because he was our best player leading up to the injury against Basle?

    So you keep saying.

You're wrong, of course. Seeing as you're basing this opinion on a total of 6 league games (out of 14) against the might of WBA, Newcastle, Swansea, Sunderland, Everton (when they were really shit) and Aston Villa.

So no one's allowed to be our best player against these teams?

I didn't realise how much of the early season he missed through injury to be fair...but there's still a run of games stretching out over a month (leading to his injury against Basle) where he was excellent, and our best player. Allowing us to concede 1 goal in 5 games and continue churning out results, just after being tonked 6-1 by City.

Why are you picking another twattish fight for no real reason?

It's not really his fault who United played.

Let's not forget the game before he came back United lost 6-1 against City. Then he comes back and the defence concedes 1 goal in 5 games.. and that was a penalty.

I'm not picking a twattish fight, any more than you were with this post.

If you'd responded to my initial post with the bit in bold in your post above, then there wouldn't have been any need for any of the bickering since. I'd agree he had a decent (albeit brief) run of games after the City debacle but there's plenty of players far more deserving of being called our best player over the course of the season up until Vidic injured his knee.

Wayne Rooney being the most obvious candidate, although even the much-maligned Anderson put together a run of five good performances in that same period of time (including games against Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea)

He got injured in early December. There's like 3/5 of the season after that.

He was also injured in the first half of our first league game of the season and didn't play again until halfway through October.

Noodles point is that whilst Vidic was fit and playing he was one of or the best United performer. It's hard to argue against that, because whilst we was fit and playing the only goals that were conceded in the League were a penalty and a De Gea fumble.

It's very easy to argue against that, seeing as in March we went on a run of 5 consecutive league wins without conceding any goals at all.

I don't see anyone using those 5 games as evidence that Jonny Evans was our best player in the second half of the season.

What is this - the birth of a legend? It's awfully hard to fumble a ball you never touch. Perhaps he could have saved it - although, having looked at it several times, he would have been lucky - but he certainly didn't fumble it. I seriously wonder if some of the posters actually see the games they make these ridiculous comments on.
