One of the best, which makes his cheating and prickishness a great shame.
Media ignore his constant diving
Great player though
I swear Pep was trying to replace him with Jesus, until Jesus got injured. Didnt he get dropped around the time Jesus came in?
Anyway, it always seems obvious hes gonna score against us.
Indeed he was. Lots of scuttlebutt about him getting pushed out by pep. Would have been the most ridiculous thing pep has ever done. Jesus getting injured was blessing for pep.
He's reminds me so much of Romario with his playing style, physique and ruthlessness in front of goal. He's the modern day version of him although not quite as good.
The Manchester Derby King.
He's top of the PL chart for goals and assists, yet rarely spoken about as the best in the league.
Absolutely monstrous player who has delivered year after year for City.
An absolute travesty that he has never won Player of the Year.
Really is a stand out striker, him and Kane a step above everyone else in the PL. Really are the benchmark and both have proven it over an extended period of time now.
I compiled the stats for a Rashford comparison, but it highlights why Aguero(and Kane) are a level above.
Shots ot 292
Shots ot 359
Shots ot 50
Shots ot 189
Shots ot 125
Shots ot 83
Shots ot 294
Shots ot 117
Shots ot 159
For me he's the best outright striker the PL has ever seen. His goalscoring ratio is extraordinary.
He weirdly never gets the praise that he deserves.
Aguero rarely scores in away league games any more and doesn't contribute enough to their pressing game. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't finish the season as a regular starter away from home.
I can see it, but for the era and their contemporaries Henry for me.
Never saw Henry as an outright striker, that's why i phrased it that way. Hard to argue against him otherwise.
Interesting stats. OT accuracy for Rashford compared to others is not really different (he might have scored just 3 more goals if he had an accuracy of 45%) but his goals/match and total shots in itself is quite low (either he is isn't starting matches (per minute stats would help)) or he is not as composed as the top strikers and hence even the OT shots are saved. Do you have the stats at a per minute basis?
He is in the same bracket as a shearer, henry...etc..his goal scoring ratio might even be better than shearer. He can end up scoring more than 200 goals in the PL.
I hear this a lot, along with David Silva & Fernandinho
I think it's said enough to argue actually, they do get the praise they deserve
However they have all missed out on honours (player of the year, team of the season, etc) which I suspect is the reason people say it
But there are reasons for that - we know that when people vote, it tends to be based on performance the previous few months. In aguero's case, he's rarely played a full season which possibly doesn't help and in other seasons, there's simply been some outstanding candidates or city haven't won the title that year which again doesn't help
You can get minutes played from transfermarkt i believe, prem doesnt provide it.
This thread I just wanted to post the stats to show how good Aguero(and Kane) is over an extended period of time.
Aguero should go down as one of the all time greats. Kane could retire now and I feel he would have to be included.
He absolutely is one of the best pressers in the team this season. His knee operation has fixed that. He also drops off more in away games this season, into like a false 9 position especially when the inverted wingers play (Mahrez and Sterling).
He's scored away at Hoffenheim and Lyon in the CL this season. He's gone a grand total of 3 away league games without a goal two of which were Spurs and Liverpool (he never scores at Anfield).
In away games this season he's only scored 5 in 9 games, 3 in 8 in you don't include the charity shield. Not the best return but hardly terrible considering those 8 games have been 2 CL games and 3 of the top 6.
Harry Kane for example has scored 2 home goals in the league this season, Poch will hardly bench him at Wembley and only play him away.
You can get an injection that does knee surgery? Interesting...
The guy is pure class. A top striker and unlike Kane, a great player as well.
He didn't score vs Wolves, Wham and Arsenal too. That makes it 5 out of 6 away league games this season. That's simply not good. Besides, he was among the unimpressive City players vs Liverpool and Spurs. Against Hoffenheim he was quite wasteful, IIRC.
My prediction is that he won't finish the season as your main striker. Guardiola would rather play Sterling in the middle, especially away from home.
We'll see how that works out...
Imho he's probably having his best season at City. He was poor v Liverpool but far from poor v Spurs. As I said he plays a different role away from home. It's plain to see, even in last nights game. He drops deep, links up and presses from the front. He's already had more interceptions this season then the entirety of last, he's won 12 combined tackles and interceptions, last season he won 15 for the entire season. About 5 times alone he almost won the ball back or Lyon got lucky from his pressing in midfield.
He wasn't wasteful v Hoffenheim, he was one of our highest rated players.
More importantly why did he end up at City and not United. He came to City with a top quality scoring record.
Probably one of the most natural finishers the PL has seen.
I admire and hate him in equal measures.
You can’t make those conclusions based on only a few games, and we all know City don’t have problems scoring goals from all angles. The problem comes if they lose games or struggle to create chances. Aguero is very important for City, both as a goalscorer, assist-maker or with build-ups. City work room and channels more than any other team, and their style would never be great if the striker isn’t helping out or stands still like ours. In certain games he can score four, in others he can have three assists. Versatility.
He is a machine in the big games.
What a terrible miss.
WHAT A BLOODY GREAT GOAL!!
I must admit I’m rather enjoying this, a few more and our Goal difference will be the same as Chelsea’s, quite remarkable.
God I hate that he plays for City. He's damn good.
It still continuously baffles me how Madrid/Barca never came in for him at any point during his time at City. I remain convinces if he played for us he'd have been linked every other day
I’m not one to hold a grudge but ever since he scored that goal against QPR I have always thought that there is a T missing from his shirt.
The second goal was magical.
Rememeber when Guardiola convinced our/his fans last season that he is not good enough for his side and that Jesus fits them better? Hipsters
Just seen Ole on the telly watching the game.
First time I’ve seen him not smiling since he re joined us.
Knows there's work to do.
elite striker. best in the league and it has been like that for years.
Potential PFA player of the year? This has certainly been his best season in years
Hopefully he can finally get 30 goals in the league season, and fire City to the title.
Aye, I was just thinking that. No other stand out candidates and he's probably due some official individual recognition given he's one of the best strikers in PL history.
If his goals stop Liverpool from winning the title then he 100% deserves it as far as I'm concerened.
Separate names with a comma.
