Serious question-Why do we travel to domestic games by train?

Why?Why can't the team just book a flight for every game?It takes about 2 hours to go from Manchester to London in a train,it just takes an hour to fly down to London....Over the course of a season,we can save so many hours of travelling if we just took a flight every week.We can obviously afford to buy 25-30 air tickets every week,so what's the problem? Why can't the club just buy a private plane for the first team? Why do we keep travelling by train?

Cheaper, more environmentally friendly, more convenient and probably quicker overall too.

Not sure why anyone would be bothered by this anyway.

It takes 1 hour flight, what about the procedures like security check and all that before boarding?

I maybe wrong here, assuming there is lot of security procedures for flights compared to trains.

If it's 1 hour flight or 2 hour train, it's better to go by train.

I would always prefer a 2 hour train ride than a 1 hour plane trip as 1 hour quickly turns into 3 hours when you factor in security and boarding etc.

I think there are 3 reasons:

    1) hassle - there is fewer procedures when boarding a train. Imagine players forgetting their passports or packing something stupid to their carry on
    2) medical reasons- with the amount of flights they would get you have to take medical reason into account. Blood cloths, radiation...etc
    3) PR reason- few years back Arsenal decided to take 20 minute flight for some game. Green organizations protested heavily. I bet the club wants to avoid bad publicity.

More confused as to why we would fly to a domestic game. Airports are knackering.

It's definitely not a question of money. I'm sure it's been analysed to the nth degree (with a focus on the impact on players' energy levels) and I'm also sure that if it were less tiring to travel by plane we'd already be flying to the furthest domestic away matches.

Passports aren't required for domestic flights, I think. Don't think the procedures would be all that either.

Blood clots on a one hour flight, fam? No way. Radiation: what?

Well, that's silly. You should do what is best for the players. If people want to complain about privileged footballers, let them. It's not worth caring about those people.

Flying is more heavy on the body than going by train or bus, I can feel jaded after an hour flight to be honest. Flying 20 mins is the ultimate feckyou to environmentalists as well, you don’t do that in 2018. It’s crazy expensive, no organization likes to waste money.

Plus, some players are probably scared to fly - and if not scared-scared, very anxious.

    Question is serious, seriously?

Domestically EPL games, is there even a need to travel by airplane. Train is more reliable and time-efficient, rarely the trip/schedule got cancelled/postponed and no hassle excessive security check. Airplane have a higher rate of tickets/schedule canceled or change/postponed so it's a lot riskier, not to mention you literally need to prepare a lot of verifications and spend a lot more time at airports than at train stations, time wasting. In addition, it's a lot cheaper. Best mode of travel than airplane or bus.

I think it should make sense if they are traveling very far off like 4 or 5 hours train or something. Otherwise reaching central london and avoiding the traffic is quite time saving as well

Still, I love the fact we travel by trains, it's a lot more fans-friendly kind of way, us supporters have higher chance to interact with and spot the squad  players and manager, rather than if they travel by private plane/jet or public airplanes.

For UK residents, for outsiders (which is majority in the team) it is required isn't it.

Given the things Lingard gets upto, think we don't want to risk seeing him get evicted.

I don't know, does I? I fancy we could rush all that stuff through anyway. People want to help Man Utd, plus we'd be chartering our own jet.

I vaguely remember someone at the club explaining it a while back, we used to travel to London by plane but they found the train more relaxing. I don’t remember the exact wording but they definitely made the switch at some point.

From personal experience it’s easier by train. Getting to /from the airports in London is time consuming. The train is just as expensive so it’s definitely not about costs.

Not sure why you're getting cnuty replies, it's a fair enough question. These would be my guess as to why as well.

Planes are exhausting. There's literally no need when you can get a train there. Easier to move around and keep fresh in. Also that 1 hour flight to London can easily turn into a much longer one if something goes wrong.

How long does it take from arriving at an airport/airfield to central London?

More than two hours for sure.

There’s a tonne of other reasons too but claiming a flight is faster is just plain wrong.

Why doesn't the club famous for the Munich Air Disaster fly more? I'd imagine it's because a train to London is just less hassle.

I used to regularly fly to Belfast for work, and I find short flights are horrendous. When you consider the check-in procedures and the lack of comfort as well as the temporary deafness, I had to inform my employer that I refuse to continue travelling out there - as much as I prefer F2F meetings over telecons.

Not that I’ve ever thought about it before, but I’m glad that United travel via train as opposed to flying.

Cause you can't fly straight into London or any major city without having another 30-40 minute drive or end up catching another train anyway.

A better question is why don't we helicopter ourselves straight into the ground.

Imagine landing one of these right in the middle of anfield

Then fred the red jumps out and lays a massive turd in the centre circle.

They could also just all jump into their super sports cars and drive there themselves within a couple of minutes. Coppers could just free up the highway like for politicians while our lads are having a race showing off who got the fastest car.

Driving, no idea, but it certainly doesn't take that long on public transport.

Which London airport do flights from Manchester even go into?
