In fact you can find Ivanovic now, walking around Barcelona in a drunken stupor, bouncing the word 'fortunate' around in his head, wondering if there's a way where if he says it enough times, he will magically be able to play in the final.

Unfortunately Shreeves isn't there to tell him it won't, and that magic doesn't exist.

I just passed Shreeves a minute ago. He was interviewing a homeless man on his thoughts about the positives of underfloor heating in the bathroom.

    you cruel bastard Hectic.

Nani's right though, surely a yellow card that he got in the 1st leg of the QF can be wiped out by the final?

I thought Ivanovic would get booked tonight, but not through dissent.

Shreeves is a piece of shit.

"So you say you are trying to move on now, hows that coming along?"
"Not so well to be honest, everything reminds us of him, he's so important to us."
"Was. Was important to you. He's dead now."
"Oh. Right. Yeah but I meant he will always be with us"
"Obviously just to confirm, he won't be though will he, on account of him not being alive anymore."
    "Yes......that's correct."
"What would you say to him if he were here now?"
"Just that we have always and will always love him and that..."
".....Well he can't hear you anyway so we'll just leave it there thanks."

Shreeves, standing in front of four people, who look slightly lost, says "Did you know that one in four of these people behind me would die if we didn't have the medicine to combat their illness as supply is simply too high to cure all of them? Well I'm here to tell them we've run out, and it's actually all four of them."

Rules should be changed. Fans should get to see teams at full strength for final.

Rules should be changed, Shreeves should be wheeled around the country breaking all manner of bad news to people, followed by an entourage of ambulances to deal with the new victims he leaves in his wake.

Why not in the semis? What about injured players? What about players rightly being sent off in the semis?

Because the final is one game. If it was two I would have a different opinion.

I think getting sent off for a red is one thing, two yellows is another. Generally you miss more than one match for a red. It's clearly different than two yellows.

Yes, injured players should also be allowed to play. :houllier:

Madrid has six players with yellows. We might be watching a ridiculous final. I want to see the strongest teams play each other in the final.

    This.

He's always looking for the controversial and comes across as a bit of an arse.
I remember the time Fergie tore him a new one over Ronaldo, that was fun to watch.
Jim White is just a pleb, it was bad enough when we had to listen to him on the radio but he's now no1 transfer muppet for Sky.

Does anyone actually believe that a professional of any sort would not be aware of their current yellow card status going into one of the most important matches of their lives?

    Really?

    Silly OP.

It wasn't so much him telling him what he didn't know, in fact, it was telling him when he did know.

If you were in his shoes, you knew you'd been banned (a very bittersweet feeling), and some journo comes up to you highlighting the fact you'll miss the biggest game of your life, in no uncertain terms, if you wouldn't be annoyed then I wish I could be as easy going as you.

The thing is that Shreeves is nearly redundant - the managers don't want to do post-match interviews at all and the players usually just piss about and mouth a few platitudes. So he tries to get an angle and comes across as a prize cnut.

It's a 12-match tournament, leading up to the final. A team might miss the final because a player missed a match in an earlier round because he was suspended, therefore "costing us a chance to see the two best teams". Naa, if you do the crime, you do the time. The players know the rules, if they can't handle it, though. There's no reason one player would get to the semis with a clean slate and another with two bookings, both knowing they can afford to get a yellow card and still play in the final.
