Why, has he been interviewed?
"no value in transfer market"
Fergie lied ?
he just misread a cross..not good enough
let arsenal have him
Beat Defoe in the air though
So he should, defoes a midget and hes 6 foot 4!
how has the lad done? half time reports stat!
I saw about five minutes of the game, during this time I was lucky enough to catch the goal and observe that he was very slow to react to Crouch's goal.
He let Crouch drift off him for the goal, other than that he's looked good. He's quite aggressive up close, good pace, ok distribution, decent in the air.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought little people was the correct way of describing players like Defoe? Anyway, it was a joke (?)
Decent distribution from the back. Has hit a few long balls towards Zamora up front and generally been accurate with them. His shorter passing has been good as well. Most of the actual defending Hangeland has done so far, he's just made a few headed clearances and shown Crouch and Defoe he's around outstengthening both of them on several occasions. I think saying he made a mistake for the goal is a bit harsh as his fullback made a complete cock up and lost the ball in the box. Smalling was coming out when Modric won the ball and slid Crouch in behind him. He didnt react as fast as he could have but he shouldnt have been put in that situation.
Is he agile or turns rather like an oil ship
Arsenal fans questioning Wenger after apparently losing out on Smalling get told
He looks very athletic, quick on his feet.
just watched first half highlights. IMO dealt poorly with the intial cross that lead to the goal, then on the same sequence of play got caught ball watching and let crouch drift in behind unmarked.
OH NOES! SACK FERGIE SELL SMALLING!
oil ship stuck in the arctic ocean
He fell asleep for the goal ala Rio of the past
so vidic is off to madrid in the summer but dont panic we have smalling
what next rooney out and beckford in
Haven't you heard? Swap between Vidic and Smalling.
In all fairness, that was Schwarzer dropping a clanger, wouldn't blame Smalling. And then Aaron Hughes just froze. No way he could've anticipated his RB would do that
Watching the game now, he looks very nervous to me. Which is understanding.
Ah feck 2-0
My bad, being un pc on my pc. Fair enough, wasnt being too serious myself
Think of the positives
They'll remain ahead of Scousers in the league.
And city. I'd much rather see spurs in the top 4 than city.
Sults, it was just too easy!
He was pretty good. Certainly didnt look out of place. He did remind me slightly of a young Rio in terms of his distribution both short and long from the back. He's comfortable on the ball and only made one inaccurate pass as far as I can remember. I can certainly see why the top clubs were interested in a defender almost 6'5 in height who is a good athlete and very comfortable on the ball. He won physical battles with Crouch and Defoe and knocked Gomes over as well so there's no lack of strength there.
He didnt make many tackles and only a few interceptions, most of that work was done by Hangeland. As a partnership they coped well with Crouch in the air and Defoe on the ground which is impressive enough, although obviously Crouch did get away once to score. Most of his defensive work was dealing with Spurs attackers facing away from goal and in that respect he did his job well. Room for improvement? Absolutely. But looks to be some very good raw materials to construct a defender. As well, Evans wasnt perfect for Sunderland either.
Hodgson was unaware of an Arsenal offer being accepted and knew that United had an offer accepted a long time ago, whatever than means. He seems pretty convinced that he will have his medical up here tomorrow and will be a Man United player.
So this is a done deal pretty much and not another Ramsey situation?
Good analysis. I was also impressed by his ability on the ball.
Maybe he could have marked Crouch a bit tighter for his goal, but he's young and learning and overall I thought he did relatively well.
After thinking about this whole thing a bit, I really will want the club to include whatever clause they put into the Ljajic deal in this one as well. Lets monitor him a bit at the top level and see if he is any better than Cathcart.
Roy Hodgson said the situation is that United have had a bid accepted, Smalling has agreed terms and he's having a medical tomorrow. Says he doesn't know if Arsenal ever had a bid accepted but he'd personally been aware of United's interest for some time (so he was obviously telling the press porkies when he previously said he knew nothing of United's interest not too long ago). Re-iterated that he thinks Smalling will become a real top class player and is disappointed he won't get to see him become that at Fulham but congratulated Fergie on his judgement.
Hodgson really is a class act. Top bloke.
I respect Hodgson, but what is said about the lad is expected, but I really wanted Arsenal to have also been interested. I like Wenger's eye for talent spotting.
They were interested (and still are according to reports), Wenger mentioned the situation in his press conference, hence all the allusions to Ramsay.
I have extrapolated Smalling's progress and it is mathematically certain that he will be better than Vidic by March 23rd.
If extrapolated means what I think it might mean, and if I've got the right geezer, and also if he doesn't go to Arsenal anyway.
He didn't deny that they were interested. We know for a fact that they were since Wenger himself said he hadn't given up hope of signing him even after United had out-bid them. He was just saying that he wasn't personally aware of whether or not the club had ever accepted a bid from them.
He does really come across as a top guy though, Hodgson. Gave a cheeky grin as he admitted that he'd known of United's interest.
Totally agree. I really like him.
