Agree, if any team outside of the big boys misses a trophy I'd like Southampton to be the ones to capitalise. Constantly get their best players taken, bring through youth, play nice football. I'd love to see them win a League Cup or something (If City don't)

Already knocked out of the league cup so FA Cup it is, if we don't win it.

I like them but they're a bit blunt currently, too many players who are tidy but unproductive like Tadic and Redmond. If they can get Gabbiadini back in form they'll look a far more potent side.

Redmond is very good and Tadic is one of their best players.

Gabbiadini has always been inconsistent like this though. Took a punt and unfortunately not working yet. Get a striker who can score consistently and they have a shot at top 7

It's a fair criticism though. They move the ball really well but don't do enough in the final third. Even today, despite their dominance, they were unable to truly trouble De Gea. Think they need to be a little bit more direct if they are to ever challenge for honours. As much as I like Shane Long you can't be going into games with a lone striker who hasn't scored in 17 games.

They need Austin to stay fit. Gabbiadini isn't anything special and playing a lone striker that doesn't score goals is not going to do them any good.

Lemina was a great coup, their best player against us. They looked decentl stacked in midfield and with Van Dijk back they'll have one of the best defenses in the league.

They definitely have a good scouting network. Take the players they've sold in the past decade and it'd make one hell of a team, do they unearth the gems through necessity though is always at the back of my mind. Perhaps the big clubs their players get sold to were also scouted by the big clubs initially but deemed too raw to take a punt on, and Southampton with all due respect can't really attract the elite players so buy the potential players who go there as a stepping stone.

If so, works well for everyone involved. (Apart from Liverpool who will insist on buying some ex Saints dross - Ox being this years annual purchase)

    Positives:

Mugging off Liverpool with Van Dijk.

    Negatives:

Selling the rest of their club to Liverpool.

Lovren would definitely be in the positive section here :D they should give us VVD by way of an apology.

Read a article bout a black room they have, les reid former manager of charlton works for Southampton and is head of recruitment, he calls his office the black room. They have 3 players identified for each position in the event one of them is sold. They all play in similar type roles , he also scouts for managers/coaches, these play the way Southampton have set up. Its a really well ran club

Tadic is unproductive? I thought he had good numbers.

I like Southampton. In general play they dominated us last year in the cup as well (relative to the ability of the two teams) and they do this sort of thing consistently. They outpass and outplay teams much more expensive than them. I wonder how good they'd be with our sort of resources. Probably far better than we've managed with the same with a mishmash of ideas and directions. Their whole 'project' has been brilliantly run. They have an identity, and ethos and keep performing using that well.

They are an interesting team to watch on their day. Better than many midtable clubs in the league who do feck all against big teams except parking the bus and waiting for the inevitable defeat.

Not a great return last season with 3 goals and 5 assists in 30 starts. He had better numbers in 15/16 but that was when they finished 6th and had Mane in the team.

The highlights of last years Carabao cup final were on MUTV and Southampton probably should have won that game, they are a very good team and held us to a bore draw away from home at the end of last season. They are a very good team and I think we should be quite happy to have come away with three points in that game at the weekend.

I've come to feel that way about the Saints myself.

They're a well run club and produce a massive amount of talent to be the size they are.

I like them too. Decent players that play decent football, plus they keep selling dross to the scousers.

Lemina looked good against us but they do lack anyone really special at the moment.

Both their home and away kits are gorgeous in my opinion, best looking in the league.
