They seem to be quite regular now.

I am not complaining about it by the way, I know the players are humans not machines etc, it's just an observation. I'm sure it really lifts their mood when Jose announces they have a random day or 2 off.

Today Shaw is in Paris and Martial is at the M&M Factory (wherever that is). A couple of weeks ago, after the Yeovil Friday night game, they all got 2 days off afterwards and Jose mentioned that he was travelling to London to visit his family. There was also the week warm weather training in Dubai in January, but it was different as the squad travelled/stayed/trained together as normal.

Maybe there was always regular days off under Sir Alex, but social media is making it more obvious? Do other Top 6 teams have regular days off allowing their players to travel individually around the world?

Is their diet tracked when they are off? Do you think they are told they have to train in they gym for an hour or 2? Would this be monitored?

I reckon all of them do some moderation of excercise, differen depending on the knocks they are carrying. They're grown professionals, they take care of their own diet and face the consquences.

Traveling from Manchester to Paris is hardly traveling all over the world. It's a 90 minute flight which is less than their trips to London.

Paris is just one example, they often travel to Spain, Netherlands etc. Yes I know the flight time is minimal to these places, I'm more referring to the regular days off and not training. Is this normal from years gone by, or a new thing introduced by the modern player?

If you can't track your own diet, get enough sleep or follow an exercise plan unmonitored, I doubt you end up in the Premier League.

Not to mention that such trips must do wonders for foreign players.

That much chocolate isn't good for you. Martial actually calls himself a professional athlete?

Suspect they got an additional time off due to no mid week game. Fine with the rest now as there won't be much time off if we progress in the Champions League and FA Cup.

It doesn't happen often, it's a few times over the course of the season. Not a big issue now since you can make a day trip to these places given the frequencies of flights.

Can't say how often players got days off before since there wasn't the same prevalence of social media informing us of it. I do imagine the day after a match is a fairly light one in general.

I think the reason we notice these days off more now is because players are so active on social media. These days off might have been regular years ago but we just didn’t know about them

Pretty sure that is M&M World in Leicester Square. He must have been mugged going in and out of there with the insane amount of tourists that's why he has the hat and hoodie likely. Maybe posted the pictures well after as well

It's unusual for the players to get the chance to have a couple of days off and once the CL kicks back in the opportunities will be even fewer. In fact if we've got a Tuesday away they may not get a day off at all that week. Players are often given a few days off in international breaks if they're not with their NT.

I think we notice it more because of social media and because a photo of a player out shopping at the Trafford Centre isn't as noticeable as a player flying away for a day or two. If anything it's a good sign that Mourinho has enough trust in the squad that they are allowed to travel.

If the rumours are right Mourinho has a policy of giving them at least one day off per week, if the schedule permits, and because it's schedule dependant he tells them the days off in advance. I think some managers prefer to work more reactively - giving them Sunday off if they played well on Saturday, but not if they didn't - that sort of thing. SAF used to do that in the 90s, but I think he switched to more of a set pattern in the 2000s - probably because he had more foreign players who would like to take the opportunity to fly home.

Not sure it is too different from back in the days of Robbo, Paul McGrath, Big Norm and Kevin Moran etc. Was often said that training would finish on a Tuesday and Robbo etc would turn up half cut on a Saturday before the match after going on a four-day bender playing Golf

I see they have been given another 3 days off after the Chelsea game.
All well and good, but I hope it doesn't affect the performance v Crystal Palace.

When you get to this stage of the season, training sessions are more likely to be fewer and far between as match fitness should be optimised already by now and overtraining leads to injuries and fatigue.

Probably would explain why you see more days off now.

Too many days off, not enough days spent learning how to pass the ball to a teammate.

Starting to think that all this time off is more detrimental to this team than beneficial. I'm all for players getting time off, but when you see the likes of Lukaku living it up with Jay-Z two days after our games and others in different countries it just seems strange when we are in the business end of the season.

Players have their own lives but it would be nice to see our players get their heads down a bit more.

Don't get me wrong I'm all for players having their own lives, but that example of Lukaku above pretty much sums up this team in a nutshell though. Would rather look flash on instagram.
