Maybe think I would go for Clev though who has a much better understanding off midfield even if he's not the strongest defensively. Jones just doesn't seem to have any discipline when he plays in the middle.

Jones shouldnt be anywhere near our fist 11 tbh. I'd even consider sending him on loan next season tbh.

Jones should be nowhere near our midfield in this match. He just doesn't have the discipline or positional sense for a big game like this.

We need a draw only so we cannot be as attacking as we can be. Solid defence and stack the midfield and try to score on the counter I guess.

This is a really tricky one. Usually I'd say 4-3-3/4-5-1 without hesitation in a game like this, but I just don't know who our third central midfielder would be.

Giggs on current form shouldn't be anymore than an impact sub IMO. (Would have loved to have seen him come on instead of Jones at 4-4 today)

I don't think Jones has a clue what to do in midfield. His positioning is all over the place, and when he played against Blackburn I thought the game just drifted him by. Wouldn't start him for his energy alone.

Cleverly is the one I'm leaning towards the most, but he's played so little of late and it really would be throwing him in at the deep end, in a game of this stature/intensity.

Decisons, decisions. Good luck Sir Alex.

    This.

The only single change might be to bring Smalling in for Rafael.

good to see everyone in high spirits. Aguero just scored. Sigh. Still think we'll win the league with a scrappy draw at the emtihad. Cold boy's line up.

Dunno why people think we'll throw Cleverley in for a game of this magnitude. He wasn't even on the bench today. If we're goin with an extra body in midfield it will be Giggs or even Park (hopefully the former).

Long balls to Ashley Young (attach a 'kick me' sign to the back of his shirt) in the box - everyone else stay on the edge of our box

giggs was my first thought for the extra man (and I think it is very likely) but his last performance was a little below par. Scholes/giggs in the same mid also has issues.

Play 4-4-2 with Nani and Valencia on the wings. Get all over the feckin bastards. As for now come on Stephen Fletcher

Tactics. Try to win the right way. If that's not working, take Nani off and put Young on.

I havnt particularly enjoyed watchin Giggs this season but feck me if there's a man to have in your starting line up in basically a league decider it's him. It'll be an 11 that know what it takes to grind out titles.

4-3-3. Carrick, Scholes and Giggs in midfield, Nani, Welbeck and Rooney upfront. Smalling, Ferdinand, Evans and Evra at the back.

Games like this really make it obvious how important another CM would be.
I just don't know who should play alongside Carrick. Scholes is not very good defensively, Cleverley hasnt played much, Park is shit in the middle, Giggs was shit in the middle the last few outings, Jones is a headless chicken.

Cleverley did well in the Community Shield game. We need to pack the midfield and hit them on the break because they'll probably have a lot of the ball.

I really hope I don't see 4-4-2. We really need to start thinking about other formations.

Why? The last time we beat City in the league when we needed it bad they were the star men and Scholes bagged the winner.

As I said I think we'd be best of dropping Rooney deeper. Without Fletcher none of the other options for me offer more than just putting Rooney deeper could accomplish. We'll have to get our wing play right as that where city can be exposed, cause they flood the middle. Only problem is Kompany in the middle.

Going all out attacking is one of the reasons we fecked up when we got beat 6-1. Play it calm and pick them off on the counter, the pressure is on them to win the game.

That's what I think of as well. Play Rooney deeper alongside Scholes and Carrick or Clev and Carrick. Welbeck up front with Nani and Val bombing from the wings.

We need men in midfield against them, but I also can't think of too many options.

Vs City we need to be the masters of keep ball. We need that far more in midfield than legs. For that reason I'd play either Cleverely or Giggs with Scholes and Carrick in midfield.

Clev and Giggs are both not very well known for keeping a ball no? Neither is Carrick when he's pressured tbf.

Not really, we lost 6-1 because we were down to 10 men. That game was a freak result because of the sending off, we were the better side in the first half playing 4-4-2.

Cleverly is awesome at keep ball. As for Giggs he usually saves his best for City clashes

Welbeck has probably been our best player against City this season, absolutely no way he should be left out. Besides, his work rate is going to be needed. He was fantastic today and he's a cert for the City game now.

Park the Titanic and play crazy counter attack is correct. Draw/Win this game and we can win the premiership, lose and City get their first title in years - it's as simple as that.

I'd probably replace Rafael with Smalling because he is better positionally and is taller to deal with City's aerial threat. In midfield I would go with a five and play Rooney at left wing and Welbeck up top. Either that or drop Welbeck and play Clevz in midfield.

Agreed. He did a fantastic job leading the line in the FA Cup game as well. He'll be up top on his own with Rooney dropping deep to help out our midfield if needed.

No use dropping our in form players. Jones and Cleverly haven't been too impressive in recent weeks.
