Does Shreeves know?
John, Anton didn't shake your hand.
Do you understand what that means?
It means he thinks you're a racist thug.
Yeah, he's been sending him texts to remind him.
adexkola, I think you should look less at Anton and more on our media culture... it isn't Anton here bringing this story to the nations attention.
Media whore? Has Anton even given an interview about the situation?
The rest of the post isn't worth discussion
Ignore the media whore part then
So what's being a drama queen about thinking you have been racially abused? This is the 21st century, he has every right to be upset about someone using the colour of his skin as a way to insult him. Shame on you.
1. It's not been proved yet. He didn't even hear about it until someone else mentioned it.
2. There are proper channels to address that. Look at Evra, and how he went about it. It's a fecking handshake. I'm sorry if I sound crass, but shake the hand and move on. I don't have to like someone to shake a hand.
Whether it has been proved yet or not is irrelevant. If he feels like he has been slighted and is upset by it, he has every right to feel that way and refuse to shake Terry's hand. Who are you to call him a drama queen?
I would not shake the hand of somebody whom I had a criminal case against for very personal reasons and whom I disliked a great deal.
I'm sure he won't mind what I call him on a football forum.
Wenger has had his reasons for not shaking hands down the years, doesn't prevent people calling him worse things.
You're missing the point but I think that's intentional so there's no point continuing this.
I've shaken hands with people after games who have kicked, punched and called me all sorts of things. It's just a handshake.
Up to Ferdinand though, he should not be pressured into it if he feels strongly about it.
You're probably not a racist scumbag though Duffer
To be fair I wouldn't put it past Terry to use it in the case.
"Look! Look! The bl*** c**t shock my hand! It must mean he's lying!"
He can tell Terry to feck off if he really wants to, it's his decision.
Do you have any idea of the legal implications around this handshake? It's not "just a handshake", it would be part of Terry's defense.
He and Anton could get married on sunday and it would have no bearing on what Terry did 6 months ago.
Yes it would. At best, it's certainly not worth risking it from the prosecution's point of view.
I'm not saying I agree or disagree with any stances taken. It's just the obvious thing to do when a trial is looming, think about it outside the football context.
I have to say I kinda doubt Anton has based his decisions on how a handshake might look. Most likely he doesn't want to shake the guy's hand after what he did. Some journo got from a lawyer that he'd advise his client not to shake Terry's hand and presto, instant 'leak from the Ferdinand camp'.
I'd advise he pull up the stakes, fold up the tent and go sleep in his mansion with his wife.
Do people in England even do any camping?
It's been pulled.
Why is this even being questioned? Why would you want to shake the hand of a cnut who (allegedly) has racially abused you and then denied/lied about it? I mean, what the feck? A handshake implies respect or even goodwill; good on Anton Ferdinand if he doesn't feel either of those things for Terry.
As I said
That's two, has the league called off the handshakes for any other player before?
Terry, there's only one.
What a fecking precedent they've set here. Anytime two players might not want to shake hands, clubs can ask the FA to pull the handshake? If not, it smacks of favoritism towards Terry.
They're only pulling the handshake because of the trial. There's not going to be any precedent set because of this.
I doubt that they'll be calling off handshakes for any back-up keepers.
How will any handshake/non handshake effect the trial?
There seems to be a suggestion Terry could use it to establish amicable relations between the two in court.
As RK has said it could be used as part of Terry's defense if there is a handshake. It's unlikely but it's a risk not worth taking so the handshake has been cancelled so that there is no issue of that. It's a bit of a farce but the trial being postponed to July is the real farce.
Edit: What gooDevil said.
I think it has been pulled because QPR would have told the league that none of their players intend to shake Terry's hand. That would have reduced the event to a farce. Double the press coverage of Evra- Suarez handshake one.
I thought it was the other way round, that if all the QPR players shunned Terry it would show that they all thought him guilty.
That's why they've called it off! Because it might prejudice the trial
The Euros are over now, John. Lets hope for your sake you are not guilty and Rio didn't miss out because you are a self-centred, cowardly liar
Of course he will be found innocent. His defense is completely reasonable, when a 6'2, 200 pound black man says something to me I didn't quite hear, I always say, "Do you think I called you a black bastard?"
In fact, even if they don't say something inaudible, it's always good to check. You never know what someone's heard.
It really does sound like a 6-year old's defence when he is caught doing something really, really wrong like eating a candy bar before dinner.
John Terry's legal team might make a bad character application against Anton Ferdinand during his racism trial, a court has heard.
The ex-England captain, 31, will stand trial at Westminster Magistrates' Court on 9 July accused of a racially-aggravated public order offence.
Mr Terry's barrister, George Carter-Stephenson QC, has now said he is considering making the application.
Bad character applications are used to cast doubt on a witness's evidence.
Does this sort of thing assume the good character of Terry then?
You can't make it up.
