Watched the first episode last night. New show on TNT in the US. Kind of a cross between Mindhunter and Ripper Street.

The is the blurb on it... The psychological thriller drama is set in 1896, when a series of gruesome murders of boy prostitutes has gripped New York City. Newly appointed police commissioner Teddy Roosevelt calls upon Dr. Laszlo Kreizler, a criminal psychologist – aka alienist – and newspaper illustrator John Moore to conduct the investigation in secret. Joining them in the probe is Sara Howard, a headstrong secretary at police headquarters.

    Anyone seen it yet?

I was going to make a thread. It draws parallels with Mindhunter and Ripper street indeed. I'd add True detective and Hannibal as well. Very engaging first episode and it looks like its going to a great watch overall. Its a limited series

Yeah it's starting to shape up to be a good show. Very suspenseful. Good soundtrack too. Looking forward to the next episode.

So my main gripe about the show so far is it's too short. Each episode is about 45mins with ad breaks. Apart from that it's getting good.

Yeah it'd be ideal for 50+ mins per episode. Daniel Bruhl is a mancrush I love him.

Finished it a month ago. Good show if you like the genre.

It was ok. Dakota Fanning spent the entire series talking through a seemingly blocked nose. Got a bit silly towards the end.

It is getting very mixed reviews.

Shame as I actually like the genre. Often find shows set in that era a bit slow and ponderous though, and this got some reviews stating just that.

It is slow and ponderous, like Hurtigruta minutt for minutt at times. However, they do manage to descend into a very dark atmosphere which I thought helped a lot in driving it forward and keeping me interested. More mood and atmosphere than actual great television.
