    Yay! A happy thread!

In your opinion, which United player will suprise/delight us in 2018/19 the way Jesse did in 2017/18?

Hopefully Pereira — an obvious candidate.

Surprise will be Periera but i think Sanchez will turn it around and be the standout player.

Um, not to derail the thread, but for about 75% of 17/18 the Caf was generally of the opinion Lingard was shite. Plenty of the Caf were still calling him shite at the World Cup.

    But eh, anyway, hopefully Shaw.

I've lost all hope for Shaw, Pereira is the obvious candidate as a midfielder with the willingness and ability to get on the ball and create things.

As a darkhorse candidate, I'd pick Fosu Mensah. With Darmian leaving, Tony and Diogo still not upto match fitness, he can get a string of games to begin the season at right back. He has the attitude, physical attributes and skill level to please Mourinho.

God I hope he's nothing like Carrick. He's very creative and an effective player on the pitch.

I honestly think this season our team will be a much better side. Both Fred and Periera like to play forwards quickly, Lukaku is in great form, Sanchez will have adapted and we will see more of the player who excited us so much, Pogba will be more disciplined and driven. I expect much quicker build up play in the attack.

This is why is so frustrating that the short comings in making us title contenders are not being addressed. A ball playing centre back and attacking fullbacks with a decent delivery would mean our defence could contribute to the attack and midfield wouldn't need to come back to collect the ball. This would make the team less stretched in the middle and the midfield could sit closer to attacking positions when we have the ball.

The other glaring weakness not addressed is the right hand side. If we have a RW with a proper goal threat, teams defending against us would have to focus on both sides and wouldnt be able to be so compact, creating space for out attackers to exploit.

In terms of who'll be the next surprise package. Periera if he's played. I also think Dalot given a chance might make RB his own.

    There's only one Lingod :nono:

    I hope it's Shaw.
I think it will be Pereira.

I also think Rashford & Lindelof will have have good seasons.

Overall, despite the Liverpool result, I am optimistic that we're going to see much more positive attacking football in our approach.

    Sanchez.

With his summer break and the fact that he should have had enough time to bed into the team it's going to literally feel like a brand new signing.

If he can give us even 80% of what he did in the 16/17 season, the caf will blow up.

Yeah, I was going to say Sanchez too.

I was disappointed with him last season, but he has looked sharp in pre-season and I think he'll be out to prove a point.

Also, I think he'll be used as a (second) striker which should see him bag a good amount of goals.

Nobody hopefully, what we need is consistency from our players, not play well for 6 weeks and crap the rest of the time.

Pereira if pre-season is anything to go by. Also hoping that Dalot lives up to the (frankly ludicrous) potential that the FM crowd seems to say he has. All that said, the biggest upside would be if we can finally have Pogba delivering as he did for France. Make that kind of impact week in week out and we’re contendors!

Pereira I think will force himself into the starting 11 and relativley soon.

I have no idea what Fred is like really but Pereira is the type of midfielder we were crying out for last season.

I've got a feeling Fred could have a POTY season, similar to Herrera when he was a few seasons ago. That being said, if it's Pogba or Rom ending this season as our best player, we'll be pretty close to major honours.

I hope it's Sanchez. We need him on form to have a successful season. How quickly he builds a partnership with Lukaku and Pogba will determine if we have a good season or not. Those three players along with Periera and Fred are the players I'm most excited about.

I know you didn't ask me, but I reckon we'll see Lingard at #10 and Sanchez with Lukaku upfront with Lukaku covering the right channel and Sanchez the left. Lingard will likely have free role. We tried that formation in our earlier friendlies with Martial and Sanchez up front and Mata on a free role.

I reckon Pogba and Fred will be the ones tasked with tracking the opposing fullbacks' runs, not the wingers. Although that formation might change against teams that play 3-4-3 and can overload the wings.

That's subject to us not signing a specialist RW players like Willian ofc, otherwise all bets are off.

I would love it if Jesse did it again. His movement has improved so much, wouldn't it be nice if he now developed more end product to complete the transformation?

I really believe he deserves a good crack at things on the right. Massively improved player, I never thought he would get to the level he showed last season.

He cannot play any worse than he did for the 2nd half of last season.

I genuinely feel he was suffering from Wengeritis.

All the negativity he had at Arsenal he didn't seem to let it go when he came to Utd. Tactically he's had to adjust, it was like he was trying too hard to do everything. If he let's his natural game guide him we will defo see the real Sanchez.

If we look the team progressively.

Lukaku should be able to score more goals.

Pogba will come back with more confidence than he ever has. He should be able to dominate periods of a game and influence results more than he did previously.

Rashford will be looking to score more(highly dependent on minutes played) but we must not forget he is only 20.

    Lingard can only get better.

Just Lingod 2.0. More consistent, prepared to make riskier passes and take on defenders, like in 3-4 games last year when he was really inspired.
