While not having the appeal of the trophy race the battle for 4th this season is just as competitive and interesting as the usual title race. Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs are all strong sides and you even have the dark horse in Burnley competing for it. Think the media will be switching to this narrative shortly especially if Chelsea/United pull a little further away.

I think barring city nothing is sorted. From 2nd to 5th anyone can finish any where. Cant make any predictions at the moment.

Yeah, I think they're out of the top four race.

So everything stays the same basically. Missed opportunity for us to make it only a race for 3rd and 4th

Apart from City pulling further ahead but yeah, being 10 points ahead of fifth would have been nice going into the halfway point.

Well that's over anyways. Even if we assume someone might catch them for first place, but there's no way they're dropping out of top 4 this season. 55 points now, so at most they need 20 more to secure top 4?

Yeah, would need the biggest collapse ever for them to fall out of the top four now.

I wanted to avoid this thread but time is come. Title race is over.
But with all our rivals for top 4 coming to OT and our form against lower sides , i am sure that we will finish second, maybe in some huge meltdown third. Not worried here much. And after this christmas period we will be more ahead i think.
So good part is that we will have luxury to concentrate also on CL and FA Cup. I want some trophie this year.

Wouldn't be that confident till after christmas.
Theres a lot of fixtures and a week or two's bad form can be pretty damn costly. We come out the other side in a similar position and i'lll be a lot happier.

Won't be easy to motivate the players to fight for top 4 after they wanted to win the title. I expect difficult moments. Draw with Burnley and it will get quite serious.

We'll finish comfortably second in the table but miles away from City

Thankfully we have 3 out of 4 home games against our top 4 rivals.

Yup, wouldn’t take anything for granted at this point. I fully expect us to go on a poor run after New Years, and get properly dragged into the top 4 fight.

City need 37 points from the next 19 to reach top 4 mathematically. After 19 games

    FML, that is depressing.

41 points to break the record. That's 6 losses . Yeah, they're breaking records if they really want to

Think rest of the top 4 will stay the same. United will cruise to second, Chelsea will edge 'pool, Spurs and Arsenal in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th

We'll be fine for 2nd or 3rd but by the end to gap with City may be the greatest ever which is pretty poor really.

Top 4 is going to be the real attraction this season. 5 teams 3 places. Its going to be a blast.

Can you imagine 3 Crystal Palace's in this league? I shudder at the thought.

Didn't realise how close Chelsea were to us honestly, but still fancy us to finish 2nd. Could see us finishing 20 or so points behind City, at least, which is tragic.

But honestly, all I can think about how well things are going for City is, I'd care so much more if it was Liverpool, now that would hurt.

It's one thing fighting for the title until 5 or 6 games left, then realising it's no longer on and fighting for 2nd/3rd/CL in general. For some, it's surely another to have that same motivation with half the season still to go. I suspect whoever gets 2nd & 3rd now will be down as much as anything to really impressive mental strength over another 19 games - it can't be easy for top players at Chelsea or United to motivate themselves to the same degree with 2nd place as the prize compared to actually winning being the prize. That could become even more difficult for teams that have a decent CL run

I'm not saying it's guaranteed we've won the title btw, but it must seem that way right now to many of the players at the other top clubs

United are finishing 2nd. The remaining 2 place are wide open, instead. Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool and us are too incostant.

Chelsea is closer to 2nd than the 5th team to us. Logically, there is more chance for us to finish 2nd than to be out of top 4.

And in a bad case that we loose to Barcelona (who are in a formidable form) in CL next round, there is only Premier League to focus on. You can delete Chelsea from top 4 race then.

Arsenal are by some measure the worst top 6 team.

And yet each year they're always there or thereabouts. People lambast Arsenal and I think we're a better side but that doesn't change the fact it's not really reflected in the table given how tight it is. We've dropped too many silly points this year.

Yeah on the paper, but yet we are just 1 point behind the 4th spot and only 5 the 3rd spot. Everything can happen if Spurs and Liverpool keep being incostant.

Our points advantage getting smaller whilst our rivals are all playing better than us. Looking like top 4 will be a struggle.

Well and truly in the race for Top 4, Chelsea are just a point behind. These 4 pts dropped to Leicester and Burnley could prove to be very costly.

Not only that though . I know it rarely comes down to goal difference but I think at one point of the season United had 19 + and Liverpool 1 +. There is now an 8 difference . Goal diffrence is a good reflection on form I think.

Anyway. Let see what happens with us and Swansea as we are weird .
