cant see a transfer of this size going through at such late a stage in the window, unless ladyboy throws his toys big time which i cant see happening either. Can Torres still play in the CL this season?

could set up an interesting summer though as i think Drogba will be off to Madrid if Torres goes in to Chelsea

I believe he could even if he had played in the UEFA cup, the same rule that allowed Diarra to play for Real Madrid when they bought him in January.

They can register a single player who has played in a different European cup, so because he hasn't played in the CL he can.

"as per Champions League regulation 17.18, one player per club who would normally be cup-tied can be registered and eligible to play, so long as his previous club did not field him in the same competition, meaning that this player can represent two different clubs in the UEFA Cup and Champions League. However, if the first club fielded him in the Champions League, but would later play in the UEFA Cup through finishing third in the group stage, the transferred player is ineligible to play in the UEFA Cup."

Good luck to him. Stay or go.

Can't see Liverpool selling now - they will get the same fee for Torres if they wait until Summer

also can't see Torres pushing too hard for the transfer to go through now

would be great for Chelsea if they signed him

I'm not denying Torres is a class player but 35-40m for such an injury prone player is very steep.

Agüero would be a better signing for Chelsea.

Agüero has fantastic talent, and he is only 22. I think he could form a more interesting partnership with Drogba too.

Twice the goalscorer maybe, but not sure if he's twice the player. This is in no way meant to downplay what incredible striker Torres is btw.

It's so unlikely to happen. The January transfer window gets more and more boring as the years go by

    *was.

feck knows if Torres will reach those heights again, the lad gets so horribly plagued by injuries. 'Almost' a shame, as on form he's the best striker in the world, I think.

I doubt it will happen. The timing of the bid smacks of desperation from Roman to show that he hasn't lost interest. 35 million would never be accepted and Roman knew that. 4 days is nowhere enough to get a deal of this magnitude done.

Atleast it has gotten the scousers to meltdown for a couple of days which is always fun. We should put a cheeky bid of 10 million and announce it to piss them off further.

Surprised nobody has mentioned it yet, but I think this is the strongest hint yet that Drogba is going back to Marseille this summer.

Wether that is because he is 33 and slowing rapidly will remain to be seen but the rumours of Wilkins "protecting" a player doing the dirty with one of Abramovich's associate's daughters followed by Drogba's "malaria" and downturn in form....

    I know, 2+2+2 = 11 :)

Talksport had a man at the Chelsea presser earlier.

Apparently this is not merely a publicity stunt and they intend to go back with an increased offer and will continue to try and negotiate until the transfer window closes.

I am gonna stick my neck out and say that not only will we not sell torres, we will also sign Suarez.

You may hail me as your messiah when the prophecy comes true.

Or at least hail me as a prophet. That would be ok too. As long as there is hailing.

It's blatantly obvious the silence from Torres camp suggests he wants a move.

yes, this long prolonged deafening silence from Fernando. How can he not have reacted in all these... 24 hours by now? More like 18 actually.

Doesn't he realise we live in the information age? There are people sitting in front of their computers who wish to know.

If they get a deal were they will get Suarez + 10-20m extra to spend they should sell, then get a partner like for example Sanchez, Kagawa, Gervinho, van Wolfswinkel or Toivonen next to him they should be strengthen as a pair up there. Torres also is injury prone so that would be a good deal for them.

They are not going to though. But replacing Torres with two new could be a really good deal for them. If one of them flops it will be a bad deal, so it is a bit of a gamble, but that is something that Liverpool needs to do in their current situation.

Interesting if Suarez is ready for Liverpool for €26m, that is only £23m and a good deal.

The question with Torres is he motivated? Liverpool are years away from a title challenge, and I think Torres, and Dalglish both know that they are years away from being a title candidate. If they can drop Torres for £40-45m that way sign a new one they will be pretty strong.

But if he stays Suarez - Torres is one big step in the correct direction. It is not unrealistic that Torres can be a part of a new generation of Liverpool.

    What?

Thats a heck of a lot of money. Some good form can see him come good on it, but unless we're talking about Ronaldo or Messi, Rooney or Fabregas and their equals, "only" £23 million is still a lot of money

desperation they needed a better partner for Torres, Ngog and Kuyt are both a joke. Suarez fit the bill so they cave in to Ajax demand.....

How does that make this a small amount of money? If anything the fact Liverpool wanted to pay so much less at the start should tell you this is a lot of money.

I think Torres situation scared Liverpool's hand into signing of Suarez. They've been haggling over the price forever and now suddenly agreed to pay the amount Ajax wanted.

I fully expect Torres now to come out with the statement on how committed he is and that he never wanted to leave anyway.

Daniel Taylor on twitter saying MCFC were encouraged when enquiring about Torres some time ago. Mark Ogden saying Torres wasn't averse to a move to Man United not so long ago.

I expect he's about to get dog's abuse from some angry dippers.

    This one's got mileage.
