How do you feel about this?.

It seems a bit strange that a referee can give a booking for a challenge that should be red, but nothing can be done after the game.

Recently Ashley Young has been banned for the incident not being seen by the ref, it wasn't brought up in the match report. The only reason this has been made an "incident" is because of BT Sport.

They decided to show multiple replays, and consult their "expert" referee. Without them doing this nothing would have been said. It suprises me that TV companies can use their power to effectively change the outcome in sport. We now miss a player for 3 matches.

Do you think TV should be allowed to do this? I can understand if a video referee involved with the match spots it and sends them off, but afterwards seems ridiculous considering many of the other football rules.

I'm more pissed off they show immediate replays with no regard for the actual match taking place thereby missing large chunks of the game.

Yes. Are the media not allowed to analyse or go over games anymore? Utter nonsense opinion.

It’s not the TV company’s fault he’s missing games, it’s his own fault for being an idiot. No sympathy.

I know it is frustrating but you still cannot go elbowing people. Young should have been smart. Cannot defend that.

TV companies are supposed to analyse the game and these incidents are part of the game. Only thing to blame for Young getting banned is Young.

Is this another thread to excuse our poor form and deflect from the real problems? Jose's mentality is rubbing on even with the fans, it seems.

If that happened against us, we'd be fuming and rightly so.

    Why is it ridiculous?

Players will assault each other when the refs not looking and then get away with it afterwards.

What Young did was pathetic for someone experienced as him.

So long as Puncheon is sent sent to prison for his vicious vicious assault on KDB that left him with a bruised shin I’m all for it.

What does it matter if BT show it live or the FA review it from BT recordings. The referee missed it and needed to be dealt with

Tarkowsi and Austin missed their games against us for Burnley and Southampton for retrospective action.

Meh it's a good thing to highlight stuff I just hate how much power the media has over refs and is able to influence them in to following certain patterns. I mean Clattenburgs revelations the other week pretty much confirmed what most fans thought.

Sooner we get VAR in the better. Remove as much doubt as possible and an even playing field for all sides.

He elbowed someone on purpose, he deserves the ban, i'm thankful all the cameras let us see things we normally wouldn't.

Young did something totally unnecessary, stupid and without any advantage being gained.

Sorry, but he well deserves his punishment which is doubly bad as he has become an important member of the team this season.

VAR wouldn’t do anything in this case though. Unless Tadic complains to the ref.

Nope, we lose him because he glanced at the ref before elbowing an opponent .... cowardly, stupid, naive. Hope club fine him.

TV companies can only highlight players doing something wrong. Completely Young's fault.

    No conspiracy here.... move on.

Pretty sure I’m golf they just introduced a rule where public viewers can no longer point out mistakes that will change/penalise players after one of the female players lost out on a trophy due to it.

Not their fault the footballing world is still too backwards to introduce video replays. I don't see a problem with it.

Yes they're allowed to review games, as I believe against Huddersfield De Gea was booted in the ribs by one of their defenders, it was given very little coverage. I'm all good with equal coverage for all incidents, but targeting certain players or clubs is just wrong.

It's ridiculous. Suarez had it worse though. It's a sad day when you can't even go around biting opponents without having to worry about getting grassed up by the tv cameras afterwards.

I believe he would have been banned whether BT showed it or not. The FA disciplinary panels aren't listening to non-televised games on the radio. They have access to everything.

The Premier League film and broadcast the game, BT Sport simply buy the rights to show it on their channel. The Premier League showed the replay during the game. This replay will have been shown at the same time on BT, NBC, Bein and whoever else showed the game all over the world. BT opted to show it some more after the game. Do you think the FA would know nothing about it if not for those post-game replays? He was getting a ban regardless of BT's aftershow.

What needs to be eradicated is the whole "referee saw it, so nothing more can be done" even when referees get it horribly wrong, because it leads to massive inconsistency. If a referee sees a coming together, but doesn't see an elbow connecting, he gives them a telling off and the game goes on, no further punishment because the referee saw something. Which is unfair when a player is banned for elbowing just because a referee didn't see it. All or nothing. Same with this retrospective diving panel, it's totally half arsed.

Kyle Naughton has also been punished. Didn't see any clamour by the TV companies to get him suspended. Wasn't even aware he'd been accused of anything. The FA will review any incident they deem worthy, although I do believe certain press campaigns can influence the outcome.

That doesn't happen, and it's RAWK level to think it does.

If the media is against Utd, why does every other teams fanbase think the media is out to get their team too?

There are two issues here. The first is the title of the thread which obviously is fine, and the second is the inconsistent nature of the FA's retrospective action policy.

I mean he literally did elbow a player. Are we seriously going to complain that he was caught, rather than say "maybe he shouldn't have done it?"

:lol::lol: I wonder if anyone made a thread like this after that incident.

If a player commits and offence and is punished for it then that's his own fault.

That said, everything surely has to be equal? If yesterday's wasn't a televised live would there be any attention drawn to it?

I agree with the OP, they definitely do it selectively. There's plenty of shocking challenges that don't get half the attention of others. Whether it's an agenda, a narrative or the profile of the player, I don't know. Probably all three depending on the player.

That does my head in.. they can show multiple replays of a chance that wasn't even dangerous or a 20sec shot of some player doing nothing at all on the bench when the ball is back in play. You can still hear the crowd though so sometimes they scream their heads off so you know something has happened but the producer always decides to show that "chance" from a 4th angle just to make sure that us viewers could see that the shot really went 8m wide of the goal.

The FA are inconsistent, that much is clear, but this sort of whinging should have waited till one of those moments. Young goofed up badly, and got what he deserved. Now of course it would be nice if all examples of behaviour like his were treated the same, but lets not ask for miracles.
