Starts next week in India. I think England have a comfortably stronger squad than the Euros with the inclusion of Kirby, Gomes and Sessegnon. Kirby and Gomes being the ball playing creative central players I thought we were missing at the Euros.

Spain and the other European usual suspect should be decent, that said, there has only ever been one European winner of the tournament with African nations, Nigeria in particular, dominating the tournament.

Any info on teams and players to look out for would be appreciated.

Both starting centre backs in this squad are Chelsea, then you had Chalobah starting at CB for the under 19 Euro winning side and both u20 WC winning centre backs were Chelsea too. Ridiculous.

There is a player I used to coach when he was younger in the NZ team. I only had him for 2 seasons when he was 7 or 8. he has had some really great coaches since then and its a buzz to see him make an age group world cup. Leon Van den Hoven. Also there is a player called Boyd Curry in the team, never coached him but have known him for years, his elder sister played for me for a few years and Boyd was always around. Hope they both get game time.

Hope we (india) can score a goal maybe win a game? This being held in india has done good to under age football with many clubs starting under age tournaments along with the national association as well. Our under 17 have been touring various parts of the world, we held saudis to 3-3 draw and we played well in chile but lost to mexico .There are some decent players but i think we are neither strong enough physically and technically. I think even getting a draw would be great.

Vinicius jr the player real paid 45 million for wont play in the world cup as his club have refused to allow him. Maybe madrid have a hand in this, maybe its flamengo's decision. No one knows.

There was an amusing story on reddit a few months ago that the Indian FA duped the media into thinking the U17s beat Italy U17s, when it was actually a select XI from Serie C U17s!

Hope they do well in this so the exposure brings your grassroots better funding.

No one duped anyone, the original article reported correctly. Then it was picked up by the main stream media and they know nothing about football. They probably saw italy under 17 and went with it. It was ignorant reporting. Probably shows how ignorant our nation is to any sports other than cricket.

Exciting stuff, will probably go to India vs USA match. We'd probably get trashed but great to see us holding a Fifa event. If it's held successfully then hopefully we can have more youth tournaments here(AFAIK, We've also bidded for the U20 world cup).

I didn't mean it that way (Asian myself) was interested as to the story of how they got it. It's awesome to see football tournament played in the subcontinent like this.

FIFA wants to expand in China/India, that's the only two territories left to conquer, plus chairman of Indian Football Board is Praful Patel who was a very influential politician and has done loads of great stuff to develop football in India, he lobbied hard for this.

Thanks mate - hopefully will pave the way for greater presence of subcontinental players in the top professional leagues. Have very limited knowledge of this but who are considered the best teams/players from South Asia?

Out of the subcontinent, I think we might have the best team, we've just broken into top 100 after ages. The best team in Asia is probably Iran/Japan IMO. Our team can improve a lot if we can allow players who have India as dual nationality play in our team but unfortunately that can't happen. Someone like Danny Batth(regular in Wolves which would be huge for India) who's of Indian heritage and wants to play for Indian NT can't play here. We also have Yan Dhanda of Liverpool but again he can't play here.

Why aren't they allowed to? India doesn't give citizenship to them?

India don't allow dual citizens, so if they want to take Indian citizenship then they'd have to abandon their current citizenship which would mean a lot of headache when it comes to work permit.

This world cup will be grusome physically for all players with the high humidity in that part of the world.

Water breaks in world cup games.

Ahh true. That's a shame then. Getting to play with British Indians I'm sure would help the growth of the local players.

    Why is that?
Iirc they can get a NRI card which basically gives them the same rights.
It's weird considering the amount of Indians abroad.

Has there been any new on if Sancho is going to go or are Dortmund going to be allowed to stop him going. Wonder who will be brought up in his place. Maybe a chance for Aidy Barlow to get back in.

The Germany team is in the same hotel as me, seems the monsoon is still here and it's actually not that hot in Goa.

How many of these are there? Didn't England win about 3 of them in the summer, seems like they're never ending now.

All I seem to remember from the days of yore was U21 tourneys. Have all these age groups always had big tournaments but just recently people take notice?

The U17 & U20 World Cup are every two years. The under 19 & under 17 Euros are every year. The under 21 Euro are every two years. They are more frequent because players are only eligible for a short space of time.

They have happened for a long time but coverage and interest is at an all time high.

Cheers for that mate. Just seems like there's been near enough 10 this year or that's how it feels anyway, one ends and another begins almost. Hopefully England can bag another, cos every man and his dog knows the seniors will never win anything.

Looking forward to this starting tomorrow.

Mali and England my two fancies for it.

Ghana should be a decent watch tomorrow. Decent side for them this gen, Colombia are alright too. Think the SA sides are all pretty equal currently barring Brazil (although huge miss with no Vinucius) so probably still pretty close. Spain generation looks decent.

So this begins today. All tickets for india's game are being claimed to have been sold.
I would like to point an indian player who could do something in the tournament to maybe get a european academy to look at him and maybe take them (hopefully).

    Komal thatal (Sikkim)

United will be looking at him as per local newspapers but i think it is more of a general look out at the indian kids as the market in india is huge and if we can just get one star then this country will explode with talent coming through in younger generations. United also might be looking at the deal commercially.

Also Other names to lookout for Dheeraj singh, stalin , Amarjit singh and aniket.

I think we will get three total routs by the strong opposition from Us, ghana, columbia. I just hope we can look competitive and convince the many scouts from various academy to look into the country's youth.

Brazil F.a. have been great for us. They recently invited a local group of players into their training session and representatives visited local clubs to have a look at facilities

In Delhi, the govt has bought the tickets for school children so the stadium doesn't appear empty. It's a good move but sucks for poeple like me who wanted to go to a match but can't.
