I never post on here but lets clarify this.

Anything but those bastards winning the league. Im 27 and ive never seen it, i never want to.

Does not mean i 'enjoy' any City win. Lets just take the rough for now.

It's different. The alternative to you lot winning the league while United fail is our local rivals and 2nd most hated rivals, City, so its not exactly a massive difference. What is a big difference is United finishing in top 4 or not. Not to mention the prospect of City winning the quadruple and beating the achievement of our 99 team. That is far, far worse than Liverpool winning the league once. It's not even close in fact.

Any United fan who disagrees needs to take a long hard look at themselves. Wanting your local rivals to beat your greatest ever accomplishment so the slightly more hated rival doesnt win one title? Its beyond crazy.

Where do you live? Would you prefer Man City wins the quadruple and beats Uniteds greatest ever achievement?
Would you prefer Liverpool win the title and United finish 3rd/4th and set ourselves up nicely for next season or we flop hard in the next 2 months, make it hard for ourselves this summer/next season but our local rivals Man City win the title?

City winning the quadruple and beating our 99 achievement is 1000000x worse than Liverpool winning the title.

Who says City have to win the quadruple in order to stop Liverpool winning the league?

City wont win the quad though.

Not sure about that. Most United fans, including me, view City as a mere irritant. Nobody cares about their titles - they won the league in the most dramatic fashion possible in 2012, and how many people talk about that anymore? Everyone knows they are plastic. Liverpool, for all their delusions of grandeur, are a proper club.

City will likely get past Spurs IMO and are then in the semis of the CL and the favourites to win it all. Would be a massive shock if they bottle the FA Cup. Your scenario has them winning the league with United missing top 4.

What any sane United supporter should say is we worry about ourselves, and whatever happens on the outside, happens. We're not some small fecking club that takes it easy at home to our local rivals to let them get the title (and potentially a quadruple) ahead of one rival not winning it for a 30th year or whatever.

Do a survey of fans who go to games and see what the results are. I'd be amazed if they didn't think the same as I do, everyone I speak to at the ground thinks the same way. City are founded on filth, Liverpool are doing it the right way and them winning it could mark the start of an awful period for us. I guarantee that if you lived in England you'd think different to the way you do now.

I actually think we will spend more money if we finish outside the top 4 and I don't think getting players will be a problem as all they care about is money these days anyway.

Yeah you can say that but they're still our local rivals and the 2nd most hated club after Liverpool. Them beating out accomplishment of the treble is unimaginable, yet a very real possibility.

They have to win the league to stop those Scousers winning it and they are the only team to stop the Scousers wining the CL.
So yes they have to win the quadruple to stop those wankers wining the two biggest trophies in football.

I think if you surveyed anyone, including myself, we would all say City. If you ask City with United 5/6th or Liverpool with United 3/4th, it'd be close. If you ask City quadruple or Liverpool title and remind everyone it would then beat United winning the treble in 99, then I would be shocked if people would still prefer that. United is the #1. I love United more than I hate any other club. So people saying otherwise really just points to them hating Liverpool more than they support United.

Sorry, but no chance City win the quad. In one of your earlier posts you mention supporting United first and foremost and whatever happens outside happens, yet the thing you're most worried about is City winning the quadruple?

Why? They are literally the most talented squad in Europe, won the league cup, almost certainly will win the FA Cup. We'll see how they do against Spurs, hopefully they can pull through and knock them out, but I have my doubts without Kane.

I'd 100% fancy Liverpool to beat them in a final of that scale (which would be terrible although that match is probably the most hellish there could ever be so we can't win either way). I think Barca would beat them in a final too.

Let's hope so. My order of scenarios go:
    1. Anyone else wins the CL, City win the Prem, United top 4
    2. --------
    3. Anyone else CL, Liverpool title, United top 4 (very close to #3)
    4. Anyone else CL, City title, United miss out top 4
    5. ---------
    6. City title, Liverpool CL
    7. Liverpool title, City CL
    8. --------
    9. Liverpool title and CL
    10. ---------
    11. City quadruple
Not sure if United getting top 4 in either of 6/7 gives either any swing. Both close to the nightmare scenarios. But that's it pretty split up into my tiers. Think most would argue the order of 3/4 and 6/7, but that's me preferring United achieve a little something this season even if it means Liverpool win the title.

Sadly united aren’t making the top 4

    This.

City winning anything is bad enough... but for Liverpool to win the league with their self-righteous, drama-queen, 'best fans in the country' and the media falling over themselves to laud them - it just doesn't bare thinking about.

I'd take United finishing outside the top 4 every time.

Some of you lot are sounding like Scousers of the last 20-odd years now! They'd have taken anything, even Everton winning the treble, to stop United winning the league.

We've seen them win it before, they'll win it again. So long as we get 21 before they get 20, I'm happy.

Nothing City are doing at the moment will be taken seriously in the fullness of time. All of these 'achievements' will one day either be stripped from them or recorded with a big asterisk next to them denoting "financial doping". Don't worry about any of it - nobody even cares (look at their empty seats).

On the other hand, Liverpool winning the title on their own merits... This is a nightmarish and totally unacceptable scenario.

Us coming top 4 is most important to me but if it takes Liverpool winning the league to stop a City quadruple (and everyone praising them as the greatest team ever), then so be it. They're going to win it at some point anyway. At least they're a real club unlike City.

I must say I really can’t understand how so many of you would take Europa League over CL, missing out on nights like your win against PSG, and the fact that you just got a legend as a manager whose start to his career as United manager would be boosted infinitely if he actually managed to get you there in what everyone was calling an impossible task.

This. Christ, there’s some fecking idiots about. Literally got people more infatuated with Liverpool losing than United winning. Next I’m expecting people to want us to lose to Barca so Liverpool get a tougher tie in the CL.

Seeing Liverpool lose the title in another heartbreaking manner would be infinitely more satisfying than finishing top 4.
So, *pukes in mouth* I don’t mind seeing a Ashley Young back-pass to Aguero in the 92’ minute if that what it takes.

Can possibly even draw at Everton too, as long as we beat Chelsea, Cardiff and Huddersfield. I expect Arsenal to drop a lot of points on the road and Chelsea to drop more too. Both of those sides are going to get distracted by the Europa League at some point and they aren’t good enough to win twice a week every week from now until the end of the season, which is the scenario they face should they progress to the EL semis. Remember when we were deep in that competition? It only took dropping off just a little to make it feel all about winning the cup for the glory and the same reward, and the league feel like a chore. Everyone would rather win a European trophy than finish fourth.

Don’t think that is true. Last time we finished without the CL, we had the biggest managerial name in the world joining us, which was a real statement. Nobody is going to sign for United for the chance to play under Ole, and I love the guy.

I don't want to lose to City - but when we inevitably do, there's no way I'll be anywhere near as pissed off given the circumstances.

feck the top 4. Champions League means very little for 1 season. It won't affect any ability to sign players.

It's easy to cherry pick the one Champions League game that was exhilarating - how fondly do you lot remember the 2015/16 CL campaign? Because with the way we're playing, any half decent group can see us repeating that feat.

I’d take 5th if it meant stopping Liverpool winning the league. The title win would be historic. No one will give a feck in 2 years if we miss out on CL football next season.

If we lose to City then I think we'd need to beat everyone else. We probably have to (and I think we will) beat Chelsea regardless, it's the Everton away game that is looking like a decider. I don't see us making it if we draw one of them and lose one. Only room for one game of dropping points, at a push 2 draws and the rest wins.

No fan can change the outcome anyway.

Our team can't change whether Liverpool or City win the league or the CL, they can only try to win each game of their own.

We don't have a good record against City, or at home, nor really the ability to beat them, except with luck.

You need luck to win things, which Leicester showed most clearly.

It's still possible that Liverpool slip up before then, both crash out of the CL, and that we fluke our way to the Semifinals.

If worse comes to worse, man up, grow a thick skin and deal with it.

Personally I don't want to see us in Europa League next season as playing on Thursdays screws up League form, and several top targets might not come and we will be forced to accept B grade targets, perpetuating the cycle.

It could be but I think we'd just miss out. Spurs I think will be fine, even without Kane. They basically need 7-8 more points from City away, Brighton, west ham, bournemouth away and Everton. Even being optimistic, cant see them getting less than 7 points which would probably see them through on goal difference.

Arsenal would need 11 from Watford away, palace home, wolves away, Leicester away, Brighton home, Burnley away. 2 easy enough home games, then 5 points from 4 tough away games. Think that's the most they get (but also can't really see them getting much fewer?), but 74 points for them would probably see them go through on goal difference.

74 points for us and I think we miss out on GD. 75 and we go through. Very fine margins basically, but just my prediction anyway. Tomorrow Arsenal away to Watford will be a big one I think.

Look at the bright side, if we do manage to win against City we will be the ones smashing their title hopes. They are the far lesser evil, sure, but I will definitely enjoy in us being the ones denying their title. If we do lose, we will be the ones denying the scousers as a feck you for 2010. Win win.

Looking at this thread, I can't help but laugh out loud at the posters in the Arab thread who turn their noses up a potential Arab takeover with massive investment guaranteed. You guys stated that football is bigger than life, that you'd rather us getting relegated instead of winning a few titles under the Arab. Yet now you are arguing hard on which poison to choose: City winning the Quadruped or Liverpool winning the League. Well, I guess football is better than life anyway and you all would be okay.

You are completely right. I’d sacrifice Champions League if it meant Liverpool not winning the league. Surely any United fan in their right mind would say the same.

“Top 4” is a myth anyway. It’s not a trophy. I remember being disappointed when United finished SECOND... so why would I be happy now if they finished fourth?

Put this into perspective... without CL football, we signed Pogba, Ibra, Falcao, Di Maria... WITH Champions League, we signed Lee Grant, a 19 year old RB nobody ever heard of and a 55m waste of money who nobody was arsed about until they heard City MIGHT be interested.

Maybe no CL football is the kick up the arse this board needs. Getting into it again will only convince the owners that the likes of Smalling, Young and Jones are more than good enough. On top of that, Leicester won the league without it in 15/16 and Chelsea also did it in 16/17. So it might not be a bad thing.

We’re in the Champions League this year. So let’s focus on actually winning this one instead of worrying about if we’re gonna “participate” next year. That’s such a small club mentality to have.
