That's the ref's fault, not VAR.
If the refs who are watching VAR fecks it up, it's still not VAR's fault. They need better refs

Another couple of minutes wasted in the Barcelona game waiting to see if a goal counts.

3 min delay in Lyon game- it’s too long & sucks all the energy.

Also Savage just said ‘ it took too long but it’ll inevitably improve’ Why will it? Surely it’s just another guy checking video- it won’t improve at all- infact likely to get longer with var refs desperate to check every little thing so they don’t look stupid. It’s such a dumb thing to say it’ll improve- no evidence or reason that will happen except hope

Except VAR measurably takes longer in the CL than it does it other competitions. I have no idea why but, whatever the reason, it demonstrably could be made quicker.

What is the point in having a VAR if Suarez will still get penalties for every time he goes down?

He steps on the defender his foot, jumps to the floor and pretends to be hurt.... and is rewarded with a penalty. Why?

It's only as useful as the moron using it. The one in the Barca match was hopeless.

Exactly one of the problems with it & why it won’t just magically improve in the future & get quicker - it’s just another guy looking at replays.

Second opinions from external neutral VARs consisting of a panel of volunteers, randomly selected from a pool of non-sportsfans to rule out league meddling and conspiracy theories about who runs the VAR and why. In case you have a problem with the double checked VAR ruling available after a two month cooldown period to stop spontaneous emotions and adrenaline of the moment getting in the way of objectivity.

The ruling can then be contested in court up to the high court, as long as an initial objection is made within six years* since the VAR result was published. This should ensure fans are able to celebrate in full certainty that no bad decision was made. No retroactive VAR introductions will be made*.

*Exemptions from the six year and retroactive rules will of course apply to international matches including teams from Southern Europe and South America. The objection grace period will be extended to oo and the retroactive period in which VAR is introduced will be extended back to the first of june 1978.

After a lot, and I mean A LOT, of terrible mistakes have been prevented in very important matches already I can't see how anyone who loves football could hate this. Yes it has it's downsides, but it's more than a fair price to pay for not having absurd mistakes from the ref ruin the bloody game.

VAR will help some plays, it will never remove the odious refereeing debates from football. Like any contact sport it's far too subjective when a foul did or not happen in many times, but it has a problem most other sports don't. It's an incredibly low scoring game and one of the penalties for even accidental small-grade fouls, many times in situations of no imminent danger, is to provide an 80%+ chance of a goal for the other team. Obviously in these circumstances, this is going to be an extremely exploitable area of the game, and even if all players were 100 % honest, there were still be a huge amount of situations where doubt would be nevertheless present.

We go dozens of pages discussing a foul in the box with 30 thousand different angles and replay speeds and still are divided. And let's not even get started on the hand-balls.

Can you imagine the stick VAR would be getting on here if that decisive penalty had of been given against us?

And anyone piping up to say they thought it was one, being instantly banhammered, :D.

After seeing the Swansea v City game, it’s a bit ridiculous that VAR is implemented in certain stadiums and not others in the FA Cup

So we don’t have VARs in Europa league and championship stadiums.

How stupid is that? It should actually have been tested in Europa league before implementation in CL.

Well that missed call goes to show that even with all the technology, inept referees will still be inept referees.

Football is a ridiculous sport at times. Either use VAR across all grounds or not at all. Purposely choosing not to use it because Swansea aren't a premier league team is incomprehensibly stupid.

People not wanting VAR in a game... yea lets not take away important decisions from those incompetent pricks, sadly think the level of those in front of monitors is the same as those on the pitch.

2 minutes or even 4 is nothing compared to a correct call. Football really needs to move to 2 x 30 minutes of ball in play halves with VAR. It kills time wasting and the argument of VAR taking too long.

What is the justification of not having VAR at non-PL grounds? You don't even need the VAR in the ground. They could do it from an office anywhere in the world and speak to the referee in his earpiece.

Even Howard Webb reviewed decisions in what might as well have been a burger van outside the ground for BT Sport. It makes zero sense. It has to be used across the whole competition or not at all.

Imagine if they used it in the CL but only for clubs in the top 4 leagues. It'd be madness.

Any reason why England has managed to implement it in a totally different way to other leagues, FIFA and UEFA? In other cases, VAR only points to referee to check the decision again himself, instead of overruling the referee, but in England, it is otherwise. I mean, what the feck?

I've not seen any guidelines of how to do it in the most optimized way. I think the way it should be done is that the VAR refs should just make the calls because having the ref running down to sidelines and watch it himself is more time being used on a call which has already been reviewed by professional refs. I'm sure I've seen it in a few CL matches, the ref just taking the change of call in his ear.

In any case it's weird that they're not consistent with other countries as VAR is something that should be consistent.

How unbelievably dumb, what does the PL have to do with the FA cup? Basic rule, provide equal conditions for all participants in a competition. What's up with idiotic decisions on a mass scales in Britain lately...

I don't know why everyone is surprised about yesterday. When they first spoke about VAR being used in this country they stated it would only be used in Premier League stadiums for the time being.

Said it before VAR is a cop out for piss poor officials, linesman who are supposed to be called 2nd 3rd officials? Bollocks half the time the big head in the middle takes no notice of him.
E.g., Swansea v city no var.. linesman flags for a pen stone waller sees it Ref gives it . Sterling Dives clear contact on ball linesman sees it sees contact with ball no flag of him, but the big head in middle in worst position than linesman gives a pen?? This is why VAR has to be used. Offsides can be forgiven if close. VAR is still open to refs interpretation of what they see?

TMO is better most if not all are televised use there technology easy, just have the guys watching the games but following everything off the ball on the ball etc etc in the stadium not bloody miles away in some comfy room.

How come our penalty against PSG was looked at by the on field ref, but the Lindelof red card against Wolves was done by someone else away from the pitch?

Obviously different competitions under the jurisdiction of different authorities, is that the only reason? If so, which version are we having in the league next season? Or does it depend on the type of incident, whether the ref wants to look at it as opposed to letting the VAR people decide, or something else?
