Surprised a civil war hasn't broken out. Their economy has totally collapsed.

There was talk about a US invasion some months back. I thought is was rubbish. I can't see a premise for US intervention. Not as if they have citizens at risk.

Yeah not sure if Trump would be interested, although one never knows with the Mueller investigation closing in. Would be the ultimate distraction.

More likely it's staged in order for him to reinforce the idea that it's Venezuela against malevolent forces wishing to upset the country's "progress."

I'm guessing they weren't directly involved but proxy funded the rebels. If they did it directly, would have been much neater and elegant and the fecker wouldn't have survived.

Worth also looking at the Bay of Pigs to see how just how incompetent the CIA can be.

Castro was a strange combination of prepared and lucky. He suspected everything and everyone out of fear of the CIA.

People who bring the USA into this without any evidence need their head checked. Currently we don't even know for sure that there was an assassination attempt. Maybe it was a exploding gas tank. At least some fire-fighters claimed that (anonymously). Regardless, there are enough people within Venezuela who have good reasons to kill Maduro: Everyone who isn't part of his Junta. Drones are hardly hightec equipment, that only secret services have access to.
Last but not least: Chavez actually threatened US interests in the region with his shenanigans. Maduro has no money, influence or allies in the region (except Cuba...) and only kills its own people. His bolivarian empire run out of oil-money to buy its smaller neighbors.
