Absolutely shocking story. Horrendous management from the club, must protect your players and make sure their safety is paramount.

Although...maybe we might finally sign Willie Carvalho

How can they terminate a contact for nothing ?
Won't they have to pay something to the club for violating the contract ?
I have no idea how these contracts work

I don't understand how a player can terminate a contact without having to pay the club (i.e 'for Nothing'). Isnt it that if either the club or the player terminate the contract they have to pay the opposite party compensation?

I am not an expert but I believe there is always "just cause" to terminate contracts for employees. When 50 masked hooligans invade the dressing room and physically assault the players, coaches and staff, that would probably be enough for any court to rule in favor of the players terminating the contracts for just cause.

I guess there’s two key points to consider.

Ordinarily yes, I imagine that their contract will stipulate the terms when one side seeks to terminate the deal.

But, another perspective to consider is employment law and the employee rights in certain circumstances one of which could be unfit working conditions which could provide a cost free exit route and justifiable grounds to terminate.

Breach of contract/safe working conditions/unsafe environment to perform his contracted duties.

Those Hooligans upset that they missed out on cl and a trophy have effectively cost their team any hope of achieving that for the foreseeable future. I hope they're satisfied.

If we want a right winger and a backup striker we would do well to swoop for Martins and Das Bost.

I got in one little fight and my mom got scared,
Said you're moving with Carvalho and Martins to Borussia Mönchengladbach.

In fact Da Bost fits into Mourinhos desire for a goalscoring lump quite well.

Besides 6 unreal months, Bas Dost was shit at Wolfsburg. Would want nothing to do with him at United.

Rumor is that there is a good chance they were hired goons by de Carvalho posing as football hooligans. Well known fact that he hates the current team members. Of course, innocent until proven guilty, but the circumstances are suspicious.

Their president is the true problem in the club.

This was expected for a while now. It's a power play to get the president to leave and people don't know if they actually intend to leave or if it's a bluff to force the president out. Either way we'll still have to see if things will hold up in court or not.

If they actually intend to give up on the club because of what happened then they can leave and I won't even care but I don't believe it's the case. It's simply a disgrace that it has come to this though, both sides are at fault and things should have been solved professionally between them before it escalated but now the president has to go no matter what. He's done a lot of good for the club but this erases everything. It's all very caotic but we've been through worse and came out stronger and the same will happen here.

    Their president is clearly insane.

This was a newspaper first page a while ago. Fitting.

He takes credit for everything, when things go wrong he throws someone else under the bus, including players. For example he suggested on twitter that some payers lost on purpose against Atlético. He creates new rules to go around club rules, something the courts already told him he can't do. He has close ties to the organized ultras (he was one himself) and if the text messages and other stuff players put as evidence in their contract termination letters are true, then one can't dismiss the possibility he knew shit was about to go down in their academy.

Is William Carvalho any good? Was a muppet dream back in 2014 and had a tasty YouTube video compilation.

Still hilarious he called Sullivan and Gold 'the dildo brothers'

But he's in the wrong here completely, player safety and wellbeing was gone out the window when those hooligans entered the training ground.

Yeah, if Martial leaves and a RW comes in it's not crazy to think he'd be a good free backup for Lukaku for the next year or two, with Rashford both fighting him for that spot and also getting time out wide or as one of 2 up top at times and hopefully passing Dost, Lingard and Mata. Let's say Bale signs:

    -----------Lukaku(Dost)--------
    Sanchez(Rashford)-----Bale(Mata)

and then when we're playing 4-2-3-1 with Pogba in the midfield 2 or not playing:

    -----------------------Lukaku(Dost)--------
    Sanchez(Rashford)-Lingard(Mata)---Bale(Mata)

We should really start thinking of Lingard as Pogba's backup, lots of lightweight but mobile CMs playing in trios these days (Lallana and Kampl types) and Lingard doesn't offer anywhere near enough out wide to help us there.

They were at fault for not fixing their relationship with the president and by not publicly talking about it while stop putting any effort inside the pitch a few months ago. Obviously weren't at fault for anything that happened after that.

Don't believe anyone saying the president was the one who called for the players to be attacked by the way, that's just stupid. He's guilty of being stupid in the way he interacted with the players throughout the season and in the way he alienated the squad, now he has to go. It's beyond repair.

Patrício's letter clearly implies that he knew something would happen. Maybe not the violence (maybe it got out of hand) but something.

Do you know of any good articles that document the whole history of events this year? Its hard to imagine a situation that gets so bad the clubs hooligans are attacking their own players and staff.

From the outside, yes the presidents has to go, but it shouldn't have gotten this far imo

Gelson Martins, please. Not the best RW out there, but for free, would be an unreal signing from out of the blue.

Not anymore, was awful in most games I saw last season.

Probably needs a new challenge regardless of Sporting's issues.

He's not the new Vieria though.

I'm not sure if this is true but I read somewhere that the president had a part in the whole hooligan beatdown thing. Something about him trying to scare the players, and things went very wrong instead. Was there any truth in that?
