Just wondering if there are any scenarios that would convince us fans that Ole should be given a long term contract in the summer?

    If he makes top four?
    Top three?
    Wins the CL?
    FA Cup?

Or should it be thank you but goodbye, no matter what happens?

If he makes top 4 playing brilliant football and does well in the CL, then he could be in the running for a permanent job.

CL win or a top 4 finish (from the position we are in) would be huge achievements and surely worthy of a permanent role.

Well if he gets top 4 and wins the CL, he will undoubtably deserve the job full time

Nobody should be given a long term contract again. 3 years maximum

But if he won champions league or
Got a top 4 finish or
Started playing a good to watch brand of football while winning a lot

If there's a realistic chance of getting Pochettino in the summer then Solskjaer would have to win the European Cup to stay on in my opinion.

Pochettino seems to be the absolute perfect Utd manager.

Even though if Ole gets top 4 it would equal Poch's biggest achievement in English football?

Currently, I'm very much in the camp that we should still be making moves to appoint someone else long term, but that is obviously dependent on who's interested. I'm not convinced by Zidane, who is often mentioned, which leaves us with Jardim, who is still something of an unknown quantity, or trying to prise Poch away from Spurs.

If the quality of football dramatically improves, and results improve alongside them, and Ole can convince the powers that be that he can work with a DoF going forward, then there's a decision to be made.

I'm not sure putting tangibles on it like league finish and cup wins is what we're after. We could play shit on a stick football but start winning more, and scrape top 4 because Chelsea and Arsenal inexplicably implode in the second half of the season. I'm more concerned with the club returning to the values that made us all fall in love with it, and build from there.

Top4 is more than enough, it would be an incredible achievement considering our points total at the moment, and low confidence on players. But I doubt there's anyone who would get us in top4 in this position.

Why would Ole have to win the European Cup to get the job, when Poch hasn't ever come close?

Top 4 and deep run in FA cup. More so, if performances are consistently good, coherent and there is proof that with strengthening of team in summer, he has what it takes to manage big expectations at a big club.

Fair enough, but for me, if Ole gets us top 4 while bringing through a number of youngsters, it would be equally as impressive as what Poch done at Spurs.

You can't compare what Poch has been doing for years with 5 months of work. Chelsea made that mistake with Di Matteo.

Saying that I hope Ole can stay on at United in some capacity if he does well.

Anything else - even a top 4 wouldn't cut it for me.

Though if we can actually get Poch, i would say that there isn't anything he can do.

Domestic consistency, get into top 4 and have a brilliant CL and FA cup run.

I think Poch is the target if its anything less.

Honestly if he got significantly more out of our team in an attacking sense and I could see a genuine system in place, that would be one thing. Another is doing well in the cups (FA and CL) by exceeding expectations there. I think the league top four is gone so I don't care about that beyond performances and beating teams we should be beating.

But if all those things were seen - I'd certainly put him in the picture but I've no idea if I'd still want him over Pochettino or other options available.

He should not stay past his interim period.

It's not just about results any more. We need a transformation in the mould of a Klopp, Pep, Poch type regime. I don't think Ole will have the scope to stamp his authority to that effect.

But if he steadies the ship and helps rebuild the confidence of players like Bailly, Pogba, Fred, Lukaku and Rashford then he'll have a hand in a positive future.

If we can get Poch then he shouldn't be considered regardless of what he does.

If we can't, then get quarters/semis in the CL, play good football, get top four, and get our best players playing well again.

    - If he guided us to a good league finish e.g. top 4.
    - If he played good, attacking football regularly.
    - If we see improvements in our players.
    - If we see a better atmosphere around Old Trafford.
    - If he brings back a feel-good factor to the club.

Nothing. I wouldn't do it on the back of this half season.

We need a proper plan going into next season, not some half baked idea on the back of half a season. Whoever the DOF is must be allowed to make the decision freely rather than forcing a manager onto him. That will end badly.

If I can see that there is all round progress in our training, mentality, attitude and approach to games. Kinda like what Gareth Southgate has done for England.

I don't expect a miraculous CL win or even getting top 4 this year. Just show me signs that these group of players can be saved.

I would have thought it was obvious?

Pochettino is perfect for Utd so for us to decide to keep Ole instead of going for the perfect option we'd have to do something extraordinary this season like winning the Champions League.

I think Poch should be considered. But, I think that if Ole can overcome the odds now, and build a group of youngsters for the future, it would be enough for him to be in the conversation. If you disregard every manager because of an outlier like Di Matteo, then its no surprise we ended up with managers like LVG and Mourinho in the first place.

You be hard pressed to replace a manager who just won the CL. That said, we aren’t winning the CL. I doubt we even get past PSG.

The absolute most we can achieve is to make the top 4 and even that’s unlikely. But id say if we make top 4, and Poch was available, he would still lose his job.

In all, I can’t envision any way he keeps the job permanently.

Its obvious to me that Poch has achieved 2 things: building a squad on a low budget and getting top 4. So for me, if Ole can build a squad (by bringing through youngsters) and get top 4, he would equal Poch's achievements. I would NOT need him to win a European Cup because that just sets the bar unrealistically high considering we're ground zero at the minute.

Absolutely silly talk. Ole should go regardless what he achieve this season. The club should stick with the interim contract while the search for permanent manager goes on. I don't want us making the same mistake Chelsea did when they gave Di Matteo a full time role then sack before few months later.
