Seemed worse than Kompany's and Johnson's but admittedly I've only seen it once.

I think the ref bottled it.

It looked like he was putting his hand in his pocket to get a card.. Then realised Maxi was going off and decided not to..

Worse than Kompany and Johnson's? Really? I thought it was a foul and maybe a yellow but a red? No chance.

It's crazy he wasn't even booked and Rafael was booked for a shoulder challenge 5 minutes later, then after that a Liverpool player booted the ball away after an offside and no card there either, I'd say he was an homer, but that isn't true, just poor refereeing with no consistency.

Didn't appear the have much malice in it. Personally thought it was a yellow; no more, no less.

Red card for a Liverpool player at home to Man United? What next toddlers dressed as gimps?

I'm not looking for someone to blame today, we weren't great, but that was an important decision.

Two footed, off the floor, and going into Giggs' foot (taking the ball too). It was dangerous and Giggs was rightly annoyed.

But he should have got a yellow.

Probably the only blemish on the referee today, considering if he'd rightfully been sent off, the fella who scored the winner wouldn't have come on. . .

Why didn't Halsey book Adam when he kep pulling Park's shirt ? Why doesn't he come back to book player after letting the play on ?Each a Liverpool player made a foul but the play was on for United, he didn't receive card.

I'm not sure how it could be a yellow. That'd be bottling it more than the ref did.

He wasn't reckless, nor using excessive force and was in control of his body, which is what the rules state. There's no rule for two-footed tackle.

    It wasn't a sending off.

    You're right.

Except it was reckless, he did use excessive force, and he wasn't in control of his body.

I shouted red as soon as he did it. Crap that Halsey was reaching for a card and then forgot all about it.

The coverage was worse no replay and not hardly a mention of the accident, had it been our player they would of been a shitstorm on the pitch and a series of replays at every given chance.

Never a sending off, but definitely a yellow card if Rafael's was.

Its harsh to say it, but since Halsey has been back he's trying to be nice to everyone and be everyone's friend. He needs to realise you can't be a referee without upsetting people. It was a red, leaving the ground with 2 feet and studs showing should be a red every time.. The ref was just soft.

The rule is if your feet leave the ground and your studs are showing its a red, regardless of whether you get the ball, player or thin air. Its their to protect players from serious injury and the intent alone is enough to get a red card.

Can anyone get a GIF? Can't believe ITV only showed it once, but then again it's ITV. Think we only saw about 30 seconds of football in the last 5 minutes of the match...

I agreed with Kompany's red, I think Johnson should have gone for his tackle against City too, but I don't think Maxi's tackle was a red. There may have been two feet involved, but it just didn't seem very dangerous to me. Should have been a yellow though.

Not that it would have made any difference whatsoever, but not sure why Halsey held back on the yellow because Maxi was getting subbed? Certainly looked like he was reaching for the card at first.

And Rafael's yellow was for a professional foul, not for dangerous or violent play. Can't argue with that decision, it's not really comparable to the Maxi incident.

Were his studs showing though? I didn't think they were - thought it was more of a vertical jump than a horizontal one.

I'm not surprised at all, but its a pattern with Halsey that he's been soft.

Yes, his studs were showing at a roughly 45 degree angle from the United player's leg. He got the ball but it was still dangerous play.

Will have to take a look at it again, but my initial reaction on seeing the replay was no red.

I suggest you read the laws of the game. Nothing mentions studs or ground.

When was the last time a liverpool player got sent off at home to United? I don't remember at the moment but remember plenty of our players getting sent off at anfield.

Edit: oh, Mascherano in 2008 with two minutes left, but after we got down to 10 men of course.

Shoulder barge was a yellow for unsporting behaviour, rather than for how dangerous the tackle was, they're not really comparable. Both men should have been booked, but as Maxi was going off anyway, it made little difference as far as that game is concerned.
