Jose generally buys a replacement even for his fringe players. Salah for Mata, Cuadrado for Schurle just off the top of my head.

So is there a chance we are going to buy a new MF? If yes, who?

He will move Smalling to midfield if it's a crisis.

Considering Schneiderlin wasn't playing at all, there's no point. I think it's clear that Mou has decided to promote Schweinsteiger to make up for losing Schneiderlin.

Don't think so. Think we'll promote from within or next season with Pereria. I think we'll wait till the summer

Hopefully not. I want to see TFM get more games. Besides, we have Schweinsteiger, TFM, Fellaini and perhaps Blind as back up. That's sufficient.

Schneiderlin has played 15 minutes in the PL this year. Nothing to replace

He hasnt played much but he was still a viable option for our midfield. I really dont see Jose putting TFM in that situation right now. He is too conservative for that imo.

For all the games he has played any one of us could replace him.

He might generally buy replacements for fringe players but I think we ended the summer window more overstocked than he had ideally hoped.

I hope we do once that person is high quality. Don't see why no one wants to bring in someone else. We are in 4 competitions and EL has about 50 rounds before u reach the final. We should bring in someone to rotate with Fellaini

Carrick Herrera and Mata midfield 3 would be fine.

We seemingly only have four actual midfielders Mourinho trusts (Carrick, Pogba, Herrera, Fellaini). I suspect he'd like to buy this window if the right player is available, otherwise we'll scrape through until the summer and pray we avoid injuries.

I'll take half of what Schneiderlin was paid to fulfill his role.

Sweinsteigger/TFM all barely had a kick for the role of the 5th midfielder we have anough cover, and there's also Blind

No, he doesn't even play. Get a starting player in the summer and relegate Carrick to the bench

Mourinho has said that he would have used him if he was committed to staying. Just because we haven't used him doesn't mean another capable midfielder wouldn't be a huge boost as legs tire and rotation is needed/forced.

No, and we don't really one either. Would rather save the cash for a top quality replacement for Carrick in the summer. Makes more sense.

Only if our hand is forced such as a rival making a bid for a summer target.

Technically he doesn't need replacing, as he barely played anyway. But we do need another CM.

Unlikely, not much need for a fringe midfielder.

But hopefully his being cleared out is being done on the basis that we're definitely getting some top quality in midfield in the summer. Carrick's not going to be able to keep going for much longer.

Think we'd go to a 4231 if he gets injured and play with an attacking midifelder which should soften the blow slightly.

Most likely not. For Mourinho we have Fellaini as the central midfield back-up in a short-term ish fashion, OR, we have the option to move to a 4231 with Mata/Rooney as the no.10 like we did today. At a push, we seem to have Schweinsteiger on his last legs as the final resort.

Schweinsteiger has been recalled from oblivion, Fosu-Mensah is being called up into match day squads and Blind is naturally a midfielder so add that to our first choice in Herrera, Carrick and Pogba and you've got 6 players trying to get into 3 spots and then there's Rooney and Mata if we play 4-2-3-1 like tonight.

I don't think we need to buy to replace Schneiderlin with the options we've got seeing as Schneiderlin doesn't play anyway so isn't actually a loss when you look at it like that, we've never really been a big spender in January and always do our business in the summer which is when the best options are out there.

I hope so. Now that we play with 3 against most sides we need better rotation options. At the moment Fellaini is generally first in line. Someone with more mobility and tidier use of the ball would be great.

A Schneiderlin type. Shame he didn't make the grade here. Can't think of any potential targets off the top of my head.

They've got a young midfielder we should have swapped him, think he's called Smartly or Brainyly or something like that

Well we've not needed him much, so probably not. We have Pogba, Herrera, Carrick, with Fellaini and Schweinsteiger as back up. Possibly Blind and Mensah too. Not great back up on paper, but we should be fine this season. Will definitely need looking at in the summer, though.
