Don’t know which forum this should be in, but I’m looking forward to our three players picked for the Cup hopefully getting minutes against the likes of Eugenie Sommer, Jenifer Maroszan and Caroline Graham Hansen this summer!

Not surprised Greenwood's going. Surprised by the others.

Well they play for Scotland so probably less competition there.

No surprise to see those three going. Good luck to them all - even though Scotland and England are in the same group, so it's going to be hard for them all to be lucky.

Having our players in it adds a bit of extra spice to watching the WC of course. So does the fact that we'll probably see a couple of other players out there who'll join us for next season, and maybe a couple more who we'll be looking enviously at as the ones we'll hope to be chasing as "finishing touches" for the team in a couple of years time.

Jackie Groenen will be there playing for the Netherlands team as well.

They're in Group E with Canada, New Zealand and Cameroon. Canada are currently ranked 5th on the world, Netherlands are 8th.

don't write Scotland off, they are a very well drilled side and pulled off some very good results recently.

With Abbie McManus signed we've now got enough for a 5-a-side team in France. Abbie is in the England squad with Greenwood.

I’m still in shock that Hansen wasn’t selected for the Scotland team. I mean from the looks of it we have good players and that Christie Murray I think her name is who plays for pool looks awesome. Whatever happens should be a good game between England and Scotland but still no Hansen :houllier:

So for the first round, we’ve got

Sunday: England (Greenwood, McManus) vs Scotland (Arnot, Smith)
Tuesday: Netherlands (Groenen) vs New Zealand

The first one being perhaps the gem of the tournament for us reds. Four United players in one legendary clash, hopefully they’ll all get some game time.

Other matches of notice in the first round are on Saturday:

    Germany vs China and
    Norway vs Nigeria,

where the best African team may topple a Norwegian squad perhaps influenced by worlds best player, Ada Hegerberg, refusing to play for the Football association and launching a scathing critique of the entire Norwegian football set up just days before the tournament kicks off. Nerves will jangle before that match!

Yes, even the bit where they read the names out will make me cheer!

Does Jane Ross(127 caps/58 goals for Scotland)make it six Reds at the World Cup?

It hasn't been reported anywhere yet, but we'll get an early opportunity to see her in action against England later on today.

It'll probably be closer than the last time they met just under 2 years ago when England won 6-0

Apparently based on a Betfair betting offer - but being (unofficially) backed up by some of the United fans on Twitter. Assuming they're right, she probably choose to have it announced after the tournament - cat out of bag?

She was with City for a couple of years and then moved to West Ham last year - so I'm guessing she fancied coming back up north. She's 29, bringing lots of experience with her - yet leaving room for one of the younger ones to break through maybe?

Anyway, I'll assume she's ours this afternoon. :D

Be interesting to see the first time Alex Greenwood, or Abbie McManus if she plays, put a crunching tackle in on JR today, if they stand over her and snarl or pick her up and dust her down might be an indicator as to whether there is any truth in the rumour. Or maybe not :)

Best she can hope for is an apologetic "sorry about that" hug at the end of the game
