If that team was relegated, no they wouldn't win the championship because it would shatter the team from a mental standpoint but if you completely ignore the way would end up in Championship, then this team would win easily. Funnily enough the only thing that this team actually offers is athleticism and a little bit of grit from time to time. What this team doesn't offer is technical consistency. Sometimes I wonder if people actually watch United.
Debatable.you could argue there would be even more game raising teams should we find ourselves dumped in championship due to Woodward getting done for laundering 50m to shaktar.
Does SER19 love attention? Yes.
Its not even that, 1st and 2nd in a league can only play each other twice, outside of those two games our form is irrelevant if that other team is on a strong winning streak. Look at Liverpool, they put together a points total high enough to have won all but 2 Premier League titles but City had more points.
Its impossible to know and hopefully we never have to test it but I just think that if there's another strong team in that league you can't write anything off.
As I said earlier in the thread the real disgrace is that United have been easily out-enthused this season by Norwich and Sheffield United, not to mention Liverpool and City. If you were to draw up a 92 team Hard Work, Holistic Value and Enthusiasm table to ascertain which teams have worked the hardest for each other and have best proven themselves to be greater than the sum of their parts over the season I'd worry about United's standing. Fortunately we're talking about football, at which we've proven we're considerably better than the other 23 teams that would make up the sodding Championship.
Easily done these days
How standards have fallen that this is even being discussed!
We'd have to back ourselves to win those two games and better their winning streak, which I'd be very confident of doing as we're a mile better than any Championship team. I accept the point you're making, that if we came up against a Wolves 17/18 it could be closer than you might think between first and second place, but they got 99 points out of a possible 138, lost seven games and drew nine. I'm confident we'd beat that, as irrespective of the problems at the club we're a stalwart of the Premier League.
Went from a “How much threat do we face from the teams below us” thread, to would we win the Championship.
We won’t even make it to pre-season before people are asking if we should switch spots with Salford City.
I'm starting to feel like season 8 of game of thrones.
You'd never believe we finished 2nd in the league 12 months ago
Some highly intelligent person will soon start a thread regarding are we even the second best team in Manchester now?
That's all. If somebody says we'd get 95-101 points they're inviting a title challenge. If we're to get over 105 we'd win it 100 percent but drop no more than 25 points in a 46 game season with our current squad and current attitude. I don't see how that could be guaranteed. 100% guaranteed.
You wouldn't believe we were on our best run in years three months ago!
Debatable. That's how bad it is.
Can we change the poll to allow multiple answers?
So you think a team that finished 6th in the PL, one of the most competitive leagues in world football, would struggle to gain promotion from the Championship?
Think about what you are suggesting here.
Really, think about it.
I don't think wed struggle to get promoted. I think we'd be the best team in the league and would likely win it. I also think that our current squad lacks the physicality, work rate, fitness, endurance and attitude needed to breeze through a 46 game season. We've shown countless times that any team can take points off us in the last 5 years home or away but especially away to world class strikers like Glen Murray. I think we'd get close to 100 points, which just might not win it.
Yeah when you see these threads, you know the Prem season is over, but transfer muppet season hasn't started yet.
So we get the OTT hypothetical threads in-between.
Do you reckon the line up we saw vs Cardiff or slight variations of it would definitely win the high number of games they'd feature together over 46 games?
De Gea, dalot Jones Smalling young, mctominay pereira pogba, Greenwood, mata, rashford?
I'm not sure. We recently took 1 point from 3 games v Cardiff wolves and Huddersfield. Cardiff and Huddersfield are currently worse sides that the teams battling in play offs.
Like I said close to 100 points would win it. But might not
Of course we’d win the championship, at a canter. Probably lose 3 or 4 games during the season but we’d romp it breaking all sorts of records along the way.
This. I thought I've seen enough bullshit on this forum but this thread takes the cake.
We closed the season badly, but we'd stomp the Championship.
It's not even close.
You're probably right. Lot of people hysterically reacting like the conversation is are we a championship club, clearly we are not. But right now I think it's a fair question if our current squad has the
To win a 46 game league involving lots of decent teams. Teams that could make the Premier league.
We gained 1 point in 2 games against the 2 worst teams in PL history, excuse me for not being convinced. I said we'd get promoted but wouldn't win it, not with Smalling, Young & Calamity Jones in the back 4.
Not a stupid question at all. The Championship is a very tough league with a more physical style of football. Lots of relegated prem teams struggle and have to get in new players to suit. Our current squad of prima donnas would struggle with the physicality but maybe skill would outweigh that in the end. Valid question though.
Wolves got 0 points from 2 games against Huddesfield and they smashed championship.
Last season Spurs got 1 points against 20th placed West Brom, Liverpool got just 2 points against West brom. Maybe they will struggle to win championship too.
I don't think it's a daft question - it's one you could apply to quite a few teams who struggle to break down the opposition..
46 games, each one we'd be a massive favourite, and every other team would be desperate to beat us. They'd all likely sit deep or set out to press us and get in our faces, neither of which we can handle. I honestly think we'd struggle.
I think this thread shows just how out of touch from reality United fans are. Genuinely some of the comments are incredible.
All the moaning about Smalling and Jones without realizing that both of them will walk into every championship team and half of PL teams
I'm not even sure why I'm even arguing in this thread, considering how shit this is.
Yes, but I think our W/D/L ratio would not be as good as City & Liverpool's in the Premier League this season. I could easily see us losing 5-6 games. I reckon we'd end with something like 30 wins, 10 draws, 6 losses. Which is comfortably enough to win the league most seasons.
We absolutely would not.
The problem is that it seems our players dont put in the 'hard work' thats required against the lower teams. They seem to think that turning up is enough at times. I could see us dropping quite a lot of points. And then getting into a situation where they need to work hard, and when doing so, picking up injuries as they arent used to it.
Reckon we would win it, and if everybody performs to the level of their ability, we 'should' not only win but smash it. However the sad question is how would they react to facing these teams week in and week out.
Considering how little effort our players would put in vs Championship teams, no
Currently we would finish in the playoffs
Think most people accept we would likely get 90 plus points possibly 100 and win it as expected. But to bury head in sand and act like we'd coast like it in the old days is naive
Its a really competitive league. I like Smalling too for example, but he's proven countless times he doesn't always have a fight in him and can be ruffled. Jones would be similar but likely to spend half the season out and nowhere near ready for the demands of a 46 game season. We're not exactly talking about vidic and ferdinand or johnsen and stam. That lots of our players would make championship sides is neither here nor there, how many premiership sides would some start in.
The bottom line is that given how we've looked for over two months and the clear issue of very talented players simply not performing there is no way you could guarantee a consistent season and guarantee a title. We're clearly far better than a championship side, but we're far better than how we've looked in about 30 league games this season, so what's wrong.
The doubts about our fitness, physicality and attitude would not disappear in a league like the championship.
What I'm getting at. We simply can't claim divine right to win anything with our current levels and attitude. Glen Murray destroyed us this season. We've made knockaert look like Messi 2 seasons in a row. There's a serious application problem.
This place needs a summer break.
No, but We will win the Australian open 2026.
Most exciting part of ManUtd season (except last season)
