Considering where we are last season I'd say 3rd is about par. 2nd is great and 1st is magnificent.

I'd wager most people would be happy with 2nd considering how strong City is currently, and would just take 2nd, but would you be take 3rd if the league ends tomorrow?

No. At lot of money has gone into the team and as much repair work was needed city were also in a bad way, Tottenham have improved immsensely without as much investment and Chelsea won a title last year. Team can't stagnate anymore and a half arsed go at challenging city wouldn't be enough. We might not catch city but need to put consistency together

It's a kind of strange question without a sweetener, like would you take third and a run to champions league final or would you take third and two more cups

Because it goes both ways, we're 2nd at the moment but that doesn't mean Chelsea won't catch up.

I will be happy with 3rd at the end of the season. But doesn't mean I would necessarily take it now.

It will be massive step in the right direction though.

    No.

The title isn't out of question yet. City won't win every game.

If we don't challenge for the title it's poor considering what we've spent.

Why? What's the point in football if you want a season to end in November?

True. It's not clear at all that United are a safe bet for the top 4. If a 8 pts difference isn't big, so isn't a 6 pts difference with 6th.

Now, you have £20 and I’m giving you the choice here. You could keep playing on and go for that £50 prize or.... you can walk away right now with £5.

    What’s it going to be?!

Spending isn't a guarantee for anything.

    Look at Everton and Milan.

Well, i think the squad still has some glaring weaknesses in attack and to a lesser degree full-back positions.

Right now i think there is a bigger chance that we will struggle for top 4, rather than winning the title, so i think i would take it right now.

Call it loser mentality or whatever.

or subsequently you can lose -10. Finishing 6th isn't that far fetched if you ask me now. Not that I want us to finish 6th, but no teams are guaranteed anything at the moment

And? 2nd/3rd, potatoe/potato. If anything I'd say no because it would mean we got nowhere close to challenging.

Making the top 4 is far from guaranteed but it's difficult to accept 3rd when you are 2nd with 25 games to go. After the next 3 games the picture will be clearer.

Exactly. The next three games will give a good look at how far we are with our progress as a team.

No I wouldn’t accept 3rd as I believe we are better than that, and over the course of the season I believe we will prove it. 1st or 2nd I think we will finish, City have ground out a few wins recently showing good character but I don’t think they are infallible. We will see any way but I’m more optimistic than 3rd.

As this season has progressed - I would be satisfied with 3 place. Not happy, but satisfied. There is nothing in the way we play football to indicate that we will fight for the championship, but as it has been said above: we will know in 12 days time.

Definitely not, we’re in second so at this moment in time I’d take nothing lower than 2nd. If we was in first and you asked would I take 2nd tomorrow it would be a no as well.

3rd whilst playing with a swagger and attacking football that's really fun to watch and developing our young people well? I'd take that.

Either way I wouldn't be "happy" about 3rd. Our aim should be to win the big trophies.

Absolutely not - 3rd is about the lowest I expect us to finish given our start and other teams’ starts. We’ve a god shot at 2nd and an outside chance at the title. Thus doesn’t make sense to accept 3rd now - although that doesn’t mean I’d be upset with 3rd place at the end of the year.

No, I wouldn't. If not a decent title challenge, then I'd want us to push for 2nd. Everyone else, bar City, seem to be faltering a bit as well, but why should that be what we measure ourselves again, in November no less?

We should aim for first. If we have that aim throughout but end up third then I’m satisfied. If we have a bad patch and are aiming for third, then that’s a poor season.

I think the reason this question came up is because there’s a suspicion that we’re not really challenging for it now. Which frankly is an absurd thing to say considering we’re second.

No. Last season City fell apart over the winter after being great in the run up to it. They may be better this time but so are we and they're not unbeatable.

    Definitely not

Pissed me off reading the Soccer Saturday pundits put Chelsea 2nd and us 3rd in their predications - and based on what?

2nd this season will be a disappointment, 3rd or 4th would be a disaster, anything below that and I suspect Jose's job will be at risk

Don’t let it piss you off. Everyone hates united. Even if we were flying at top place they’d still put us 2nd/ 3rd.

No way. Let's focus on winning as many games as we can and wait for City to slip. Something is bound to happen, PEP losing it or injuries, bad luck..whatever. We need to be around to pounce on whatever comes our way. i think we can do better than 3rd.
