This has been a guideline for quite some time in (men's) football. I think the problem is how it's implemented at the WWC, not the concept behind it.

I do know the guideline, but the way it was implemented in this game was horrible imo. If the lineswomen were sure about the call afterall, why did they make the decision 10-15 seconds after the situation happened, even while the ball is still in play. It didn't look like their late flags were in correspondence to how it played out, which would in a way make sense. It just seems like a really insecure way of dealing with offsides, which is why the players and the crowd got annoyed too after a while.

I missed the first game today and saw most of the second. Now time for France V Norway, expecting a relatively tight game.

I don't think Women's Football GKs are a problem in itself, they just need to find some better ones. If you've ever seen any volleyball or netball, this ought not to be a problem.

I think the pitch is generally too big - the physicality of getting around it for 90mins & the distances the ball can get booted - as basic as that.

A 12th man player per team maybe?

And let Thailand play 2 goalies if they like, :).

France-Norway is very interesting game, evenly matched unlike many games in this tournament and the technical level is pretty high.

Can see Norway winning this, they seem to be opening up France a lot down the flanks, just lacking that final pass (as have France so far). Good watch for a 0-0.

I'm glad someone else has mentioned the pitch size as I thought it was an opinion that may get shot down but makes perfect sense to have a smaller pitch & goals to match.

Also, are they using a smaller ball or is it the regular size 5? It seems like the ball is too heavy and the girls put so much welly into it but no distance.

Better with her head than her feet! That was fun to watch.

Still expect a French win, getting forward well enough and will create more chances as the gale rolls on.

tbf - any situation like that, it does take nerves of steel not to play it, even when you might be pretty sure you don't have to

There is playing it but then there is doing what she did.

Put it out of play and the worst you get is somebody telling you that you u had time or could have left it.

Unclear on the rules, but she kicked away the ball and clumsily hit her knee. That's a pen?

I think it's soft - she kicks the ball first.

Harsh. Not a pen imo. Hits the ball first and fullfills the kick normally.

Suprised that’s a pen considering she got the ball first. Follow through wasn’t exactly dangerous, she scuffed the knee.

If that's a penalty then there should be a dozen penalties every game.

But you'd need a whole new set of pitches. Currently they can (and do, as shown in WC) use existing pitches which are 'normal size. New ones would need room and funding... not cheap or easy?

Might take a while but I think best to work to standard pitches and just get better accustomed. Long term benefit even if short term, they struggle a bit.

The follow through was a bad one. Anywhere else on the pitch and nobody complains about a free kick. However because it's such a defining game moment, it's harsh.

It was a tough decision for the referee even after seeing the replays.

They could re-paint the lines and use the rolling goals as you would see at training grounds etc...

It would be a bit of work from the groundsmans perspective but the costs are covered by FIFA as part of the tournement and worthwhile as the grounds are used multiple times.

This goes for the training pitches being used by the teams through the comp aswell, as they will be recycled by teams until the end.
