    With Messi and Ronaldo approaching what might be the tail end of their respective peaks (Though nothing would surprise me with those two) It's not too long until someone else stakes their claim for worlds best player. But what would a world XI look like 3/4/5 years from now? Be interesting to see people's take on the potential of some players and be fun to come back and see how right/probably wrong we all were. Here's mine;

De Gea- Self explanatory. He'll get better

Walker- Underrated right now and is a key part of what city do defensively. If city keep winning (And lets be honest their squad is young enough) then he'll always be mentioned in the best RB discussion

Varane- With Ramos coming into his twilight, Varane will stake his claim as the leader of that Madrid defence, though id rather he came to UTD

Boateng- The senior centre back, who'll get better in his 30s

Mendy- Injury free, looks every bit the modern devastating full back

Rabiot- I see him being the main player in that PSG midfield soon, absolutely oozes class.

De Bruyne- currently the best player in the Premier league and will be at his absolute peak in 3 years

    Pogba- He'll come good

Dembele- He'll live up to the hype

Mbappe- FFS he'll only be 22 in 3 years. Insane potential.

Neymar- Will have a ballon d'or under his belt, probably with Real Madrid at this stage.

    In around 3 years

GK - De Gea - 27 - I reckon him or Neuer, De Gea edges it for me as he will most likely get better.
RB - Joshua Kimmich - 23 - Class for Bayern Munich, shades of Lahm
CB - Aymeric Laporte - 23 -Good now, Great then
CB - Samuel Umtiti - 24 - Think he will be great for Barca
LB - David Alaba - 25 - Already one of the best
CM - Leon Goretzka - 23 - Great season at Schalke, will become a Bayern mainstay
DM - Julian Weigl - 22 - Keys to Dortmund, Carrick clone, will be quality for years
CM - Kevin De Bruyne - 26 - Alright Man City's best player, probably will be in 3 years
RW - Mohamad Salah - 25 - Showing everyone what he's got, explosive
ST - Harry Kane - 24 - Already great, expect him to break records and carry on scoring
LW - Neymar - 26 - Bit of a smug ass, but quality player, will be up there

In around 5/6 years or more

GK - Gianluigi Donnarumma - 19 - Hard to see past him as best Goalkeeper in the future currently
RB - Joshua Kimmich - 23 - Class for Bayern Munich, shades of Lahm, keeps his spot
CB - Matthijs de Ligt - 18 - Looks like he could be one of the top defenders in the world
    CB - Andreas Christensen - 21 - Could become a colossus
LB - Theo Hernandez - 20 - Will make LB position at Real Madrid his own
CM - Youri Tielemens - 20 - Always looked great, expect him to kick on from Monaco to bigger things
DM - Julian Weigl - 22 - As a Carrick clone I don't think he will be slowing down in around 5/6 years, keeps his place.
CM - Marco Asensio - 21 - Already great but will be hitting his peak in around 5/6 years I feel
RW - Christian Pulisic - 19 - Like Bailey, potential is there, will kick on
ST - Kylian Mbappe - 19 - Mbappe probably the worlds best young player, possibly even in 3 years but thought i'd put him in this bracket
LW - Leon Bailey - 20 - Potential is there, he'll kick on

For any fellow United fans who may be wondering why there is no single United player bar De Gea in the first list, well, these are the potentials I can see from the current squad.

Paul Pogba - Probably the most obvious glaring omission, but honestly, we've yet to see anything absolutely world class from him in the 18 months he's been here, seen dribs and drabs, but I think something needs to change here if he is to kick on and become the player we know he can be

Anthony Martial - I think he has the potential to be one of the worlds best, just never seems to be able to hold down a place, he's either coming on and off as a sub or he's getting put into positions to accommodate others, really want to see him establish himself as first name on the team sheet kinda guy .

Marcus Rashford - Again potential to be a great player, however I don't think his ceiling is any higher than Anthony Martial's and it certainly isn't higher than Kylian Mbappe's

[41212] DG - Kimmich, Varane, Bailly, Alaba - Kroos - Pogba, Verratti - KDB - Messi, Neymar

Though no matter what you pick, in reality Alves and Iniesta will always find their way through into the XI

Kroos is a good one. He will still only be 31 in three years from now and I can see him being fantastic in his 30's, just like Xavi/Pirlo/Scholes were.

This might be unpopular but keep an eye out for Trent Alexander-Arnold, he has everything needed to be top class.

    Oblak
    Kimmich Marquinhos Upamecano Mendy
    Verratti Fabinho Rabiot
    Malcolm Werner Neymar

Made this thinking in 2022 WC in Qatar, mix between potential and present.

Oblak - nobody never mentions him, don't know why
Kimmich - natural successor to Lahm
Mendy - if he recovers well under Guardiola no problem at all
Marquinhos - probably atm the best brazilian cb and will get better and better
Upamecano - in a few years time when he leaves RB Leipzig will make Keita look cheap
Fabinho - Chelsea bought the wrong midfielder from Monaco
Verratti - not popular with the italian press, so he probably will improve
Rabiot - just look at the last game in Bernabéu
Malcolm - best post Neymar talent from Brazil
Werner - will surprise a lot of people in the next years
Neymar - its a question of when will he win the next Balon D'OR

DDG - Tremendous GK, best in the world IMO and still pretty young for a goalkeeper (in 3 years he'll only be 30, hopefully his prime).

Mendy - Really struggled for LBs, Mendy's the only one I've seen play regularly enough to give my opinion, he's fast, great in the attack and has a good social media presence.

Umtiti - An absolute brick wall and one of the best CBs in the world already.

Varane - Again, cracking defender with a real composure about him. Seems like he's been round for years but still got his best years ahead of him.

Kimmich - Taken over the reigns of Lahm well by the sounds of things, great pick up from Bayern, I do think WC potential young right backs are a bit on the low side at the moment.

Verratti - Anyone who's seen him play knows how good he is, one of the best controlling midfielders around I think he'll end up the top midfielder in the world in the next few seasons, if he ever leaves PSG I hope we throw everything we have at him to get him.

Pogba - Currently unpopular on this forum but he's got the tools to be the best midfielder in the world, there's absolutely no doubt in my mind that he'll be one of the best in the next few years. Still got time on his side to prove his doubters wrong.

De Bruyne - Think he's probably the 3rd best player in the world, even ahead of Neymar, annoyingly enough he's playing for our rivals.

Messi - Even at 33 I still think he'll be the best in the world.

Kane - The one season wonder who can't stop scoring every season, he'll probably beat Shearers record and if he ever leaves Spurs whoever nabs him is guaranteed goals.

Neymar - Nailed on for a Balon d'Or in the next few years, has a divisive personality supposedly but his ability in undeniable, best of the rest at the moment but could edge out De Bruyne in the next few seasons depending on how he delivers in the CL.

Think players born in 2000/2001 would get more of a mention in a team of the year thread maybe 6 years down the line.

Decided to go with a bit of a hipster XI since the probable Team of the Year in 3 years will feature a lot of already established faces as regards the überelite level of football.

Much weaker than just about every XI posted previously, but whatever.

That CB parnership could genuinely be excellent, Sarr is a hell of a player I have a friend who raves about him. And De Ligt was 16/17 when he played against us the Europa League final and I thought he was even better than Davinson Sanchez in that match.

Hey, remember Steven Gerard said Umtiti at a certain point was average to be a Barcelona player, so who knows? :)

Only the fact I think Red Bull scouts are top level, so Keita isn't the only one to look.
