Affleck's Palace is a building located at the junction of Church Street/Tib Street with Dale Street and Dale Street with Oldham Street in the Northern Quarter of Manchester. It has a variety of Gothic and alternative stores.
It caters mainly for students but people of all ages do shop in the building. Dozens of independent stalls, small chain shops and punk-style boutiques operate in the one building. During the 1990s 'Mad-chester Summer of Lover' period when local bands such as the Stone Roses, Happy Mondays and Inspiral Carpets were riding on the cusp of a wave, Affleck's Palace was a fashionable spot to get your oversized flared jeans and tie dyed t-shirts and with the 'Eastern Bloc' record store dealing in all the latest underground dance tunes of the time.
It is open Monday to Saturday but closes on Sundays and is a quirky, creative and eclectic melting pot of different fashion, music, and decor tastes.
All of the floors of Affleck's are accessible by a lift, which features sound clips, special effects, and glow in the dark designs.
In February 2007 the Manchester Evening News (MEN) reported that the owners of Affleck's Palace, Bruntwood, may redevelop the building. An internet petition established to protest this possibility was set up, however, on Afflecks' myspace the owners have stated it will not be closing.
