Oh bloody hell, just got in from work. Didn't realise these guys were injured.

Dont know about those two. But the injury thread says Vidic and Welbeck are expected back against Stoke..? Does anyone know if they're back in training?
Hernandez's leg was numb, the fact he walked off I suspect/hope he'll be okay for Stoke
Smalling was a groin injury, Ferdinand only trained yesterday hence he missed todays game so if he trains all week I suspect if Smalling misses the Stoke game it wont be a massive problem as Jones will just slot to RB. Hopefully Vidic will be back for that one as well (no update on him just going off the original 5 week diagnoses)

The way Hernandez's ankle bent I'm thinking at least some ligament damage.

i didn't see his ankle bend. i saw the middle of his lower leg bend a bit where cole's foot caught him.
The commentators today said that Welbeck is back in training Monday, not sure about Vidic though.
if any of Rio, Vidic or Welbeck are near ready they might get a run out at Leeds
If it was a sprained ankle (which is ligament damage), then I could see him walking off the way he was. It's happened to me on more than one occasion. All the movement, adrenaline, etc., that you've been going through when that happens tends to keep the ankle loose for a bit. It's when you go and sit down for a couple of hours that it tightens up, swells up, etc.
The odd thing is the reports of numbness. He must have gotten hit right on a nerve. I hope it just hit that nerve in such a way as to give the temporary effect, like when your foot falls asleep. Hopefully it's not a pinched nerve or longer-term damaged nerve as those could be tricky injuries.
Looking at the reply, he was hit right at the shin rather than the ankle. It would be badly bruised in the next few days
He was hit on the shin/calf, but as the weight direction changes his lower leg is caught beneath Cole's legs with his foot in the turf and the ankle bends over a lot.
Did anybody else think that Cole's tackle on Hernandez was horrendous? And what really topped it all off for me was that that prick Terry, and Cole, spent the next 5 minutes mouthing to the ref about the whole thing. Clearly it was a straight red, absolutely disgraceful tackle.
Shite for Hernandez. Really hope he isn't out for long....but Welbeck close to returning 
The replay looked REALLY bad. I think it should have been a straight red, but can't really blame the ref for his decision, it didn't look that bad on first viewing.
The only reason that Chelsea really annoy me is the fact that they moan about pretty much every decision against them. Everybody complains from time to time but they swarm the ref like bees at every chance. Terry is especially bad, he always has a word for the referee, I know he's the captain and all but damn man, shut the hell up and play.
Oh and... that tackle by Cole was horrendus and should have been a red. Villas Boas trying to defend him shows that he'll fit in fine at Chelsea.

Studs showing, over the ball that had long gone, into the shin, has to be a red.
I would think the FA would want to be able to ban players for dangerous fouls like this, retrospectively, to stamp them out of the game.
I understand the idea of it being dealt with on the field, but just because a player gets a card doesn't seem to mean they can't be given a multiple game ban as well.
And, at the end of the day, what we want is for these things not to happen. If a player knows he'll miss games if he tries one, then I think you'll see far less.

I agree in general, but that's not how an ACL injury occurs. Usually it's when 'twisting your knee', or if there's contact it would be a direct blow to the side of the knee itself, not the lower portion of his shin.
Fracture/dislocation is the serious injury avoided yesterday.
Should be ok at the back, even if Smalling & Rio are out we have Fabio for RB and Jones & Evans in the centre.
The fact that he was up and walking was a good sign. How nothing was broken is amazing. And how the officials, after seeing the foul, did not send off Cole is baffling.

Different linesman made the call compared to the 2 first half goals that may or may not have been offside on top of that.
Even if it was the same linesman, since when were you allowed to try and break somebody's legs because an offside goal was given against you earlier in the match?
Even in the sense of explaining Gashley's actions without justifying them it's bollocks. So at 3-1 down he was prepared to do anything, however reckless, to avoid conceding a goal, but at 0-0 he wouldn't have bothered?
lol - I know it's a ridiculous statement by AVB - was just saying it even if the linesman needed to make up for the missed calls, it wasn't the one that missed them in the first place that called the foul on Gashley.

Villas Boas says that if the refs make the right calls then Ashley Cole won't try to break anyone's legs.

I know, I'm just amazed that nobody else had posted the AVB quote and made much the same comments. It's just the sort of thing that you would have expected might make up the 9 previous posts in this very theead.
First Davies now Cole. The intent must be to stop us winning the league again by crippling our best players.
Walking off is not really indicitive of the seriousness of the injury. I know a local rugby player who walked off after having snapped 3 of his knee ligaments. Lets wait and see.
