French parliament’s bill criminalizing Armenian Genocide denial is a parliamentary initiative in the context of punishment for racist statements, said spokesperson for French MFA Bernard Valero.

French parliament’s commission on constitutional laws adopted on December 7 a bill introduced by Valerie Boyer, which supposes one year imprisonment or fine amounting to 45,000 euro for those who will challenge or extremely minimize the fact of the 1915 Armenian Genocide.

In response Turkey threatened to recall Ambassador from Paris.

In his turn, Valero recalled that Ankara is an important partner and ally of France. According to him, France is adherent to development of relations in all the fields, RIA Novosti reports.

As I am a Turk, I hope this will become law in France. I'd love to see other countries' reactions. Turkey has been accused of breaking international laws, human rights..etc. How will this be described then? :)

People should be allowed to deny whatever they want. What right does anyone have to tell anyone else what views they can hold on history?

and your point is?
Just providing some information for those who are unaware of the Genocide, mate. It's perhaps, sadly, not as well-known as other, similar tragic events.

Exactly. Someone should remind them 'Freedom of speech'.

Ok. Yes, it was a tragic event for both countries. Turks deny calling it "genocide", however We all know that over 1.5 million Armenians were killed between 1915 to 1923 and Armenians killed many Turkish people in the East of Turkey during the 1st World War.

A few years ago Turkey stepped in and offered Armenia to open the historical records relating these events, (Turkey was even ready to open borders and start bussiness activies) but Armenia refused it.

I hope Armenia and Turkey find a common way one day. I have many Armenian friends in Istanbul. We are all sad about those tragic events.

There are a lot of countries in Europe who have the same kind of laws against Holocaust negationism, including my own, and I've always wondered why these law are there. Shouldn't be illegal to make a complete fool of yourself in my opinion.
