Academy recruit duo

United have confirmed the acquisition of two more first-year scholars.

Goalkeeper Joel Castro Pereira has signed for the club after a successful trial. The Switzerland-born shot-stopper, 16, will add to the options between the sticks for coach Paul McGuinness.

Sean Goss, who turns 17 in October, is the other new face after appearing for the Reds during last season's Aegon Future Cup, helping the team to reach the final in Amsterdam.

The Germany-born midfielder has sealed a switch from Exeter City and recently revealed he has always been a United supporter.

Another goalkeeper.....heard he was impressive last year?

Already tested by Manchester
PAYERNE • He's only 15 years old and just had a week of testing with Manchester United. The Dollhouse, Joel Dinis Pereira Castro does not know.

This is his first interview. It has the courtesy of a shy teenager. Yet it measures "1m88 and a half," he says. "And I'll still take a few centimeters." For a goalie, it counts. For now, it's his bowl brush that grows.
Yet Joel Dinis Pereira Castro has already taken many steps, fast, very fast. In December, the one who made his football school in Le Locle was even propelled the seventh best keeper in the world in his age group at the site of footballyouthtalent.com. A classification that perspective: "I'm pleased, but I do not give so much importance. I do not think those who went to see this site all the players of my age, around the world. "

A cat that jumps around
Nicknamed by his coach "El Gato" - the cat - when he became keeper by accident, because he wanted someone to this position, the kid has probably made the choice of his life without knowing it. "I was called that because I was jumping around, he smiled. Now, no one uses this nickname. " It might come back.
For a year and a half, Joel Castro Dinis Pereira lives in Payerne and attended the pre-training center of the Swiss Football Association (SFA). All rushed to him in recent months. On the one hand its future is more uncertain with Xamax where it evolves in M18 and the other, just go for a week of tests at Manchester United.
"It's amazing what happens to me, he tries to step back. My current club collapses, even if those responsible for training to do everything we can finish the season in juniors. At the same time, I find myself eating in the same room as Mr. Ferguson, with all its players. "He pauses before continuing, biting his wrist:" I think I'm a little young to think about all this . For now, though I really want to finish my training at Payerne. "
Contacted by many clubs have their Alemannic and foreign-to go do some tests, it was Manchester United that he decided to try his luck. "It is through my agent, a Luxembourg national who lives in Zurich, as it happened, he says. Several recruiters from Manchester had seen me play this fall, especially in a match of the Swiss team of M16 against Italy. "

Manchester, as a family
Neuchâtelois the original Portuguese landed at Old Trafford in January with his father and his agent. He trains all week with the M18 in Manchester, playing one game with the M16 and the club even offers a workout with the keepers of the first team. Joel Dinis Pereira Castro is pretty quiet when he tells his experience. It would almost want to keep it to himself, lest it disappear or fear that everything stops. Yet it is real.
February 27 to March 3, Manchester United wants to see him again at work in his den. "We feel that this is a family there, he says. At noon, everyone eats together, whether one is M18, or reservist of the first team. Alex Ferguson enters, and greets everyone comes to eat with us. Nobody seems above the other, that's what hit me. I have not spoken with him because I was intimidated and my English, it's not that. But my father and the agent discussed, mainly the structure of training. "

Fan of Benfica and Real
One week after England, the adoption Broyard went on a training course in Valencia with the Swiss team of M16. Suffice to say it had wings. Again, he wants to try to go as far as possible. Huge fan of Benfica and Real Madrid, a temperature measurement was made may have on this side, too. "There, I said nothing, 'says he mischievously. "Since his childhood, I dream of becoming a pro, he slips again. Today is also still a dream ... "He touched a finger. I

had no idea Goss was German born. his parents English or they German as well?
Heard he's from just outside Exeter. Complete speculation but I'd guess his dad must have been in the military and stationed in Germany, if thats true.

Walter Crickmer started it all...
I stand corrected.....v interested to see how he gets on with Sheffield Utd this season
I agree...he's been off the radar a little lately!

In his three months at Antwerp he started 12 games...came on as a sub once and scored three goals. Played regularly up front and played the full '90 in nine of those.

So he got plenty of match time.

Pereira: I want to be number one at Manchester United

Manchester United signed 16-year-old goalkeeper Joel Castro Pereira into the academy this summer following a successful trial with the club. Joining up with Paul McGuiness’ side, the Switzerland born goalkeeper has been settling well at the club.

Having represented Portugal’s U17s internationally, he he sat down and spoke to Maisefootball.iol about his time so far at Manchester United, as well as what the future will hold for the talented stopper.

On Sir Alex Ferguson…

Pereira speaks of the day when you had to pinch yourself. Once, twice, three times. “It was the same Alex Ferguson, right there beside me in the canteen of the club.”

On the club…

“It’s all fantastic. The training, the environment, the link between the professionals and the youth”

“It is at Old Trafford that want to be”

On his long-term ambitions…

“My goal is clear: to be number one in the future of Manchester United.

“I have to be ambitious. When I walk into Old Trafford realize it’s there I want to be.”

On how he was picked up by United…

“I was in goal during the selection against Italy U16s. It was in September 2011. A United scout was watching the game and in the end came to me. In March of 2012, I did a week of training experience and liked me.”

On Nani and Anderson…

“They’re both good people. I talk to him (Anderson) sometimes. It is important to have him here because we train every day at the same place and I hear good advice. But I speak more with Anderson.”

Pereira comes across as a very grounded, down-to-earth and humble person in the interview, which was translated from Portuguese. The next 18 months will be critical in the players development with United rumoured to be looking at a number of young keepers with Augsburg’s Dean Samaritino and Atletico Madrid’s David Gil reportedly on Manchester United’s radar.

With Sam Johnstone likely to go out on loan next season and Ben Amos’ future uncertain, opportunities could certainly arise for Pereira in the next year.

Pereira ready to impress
Manchester United's young goalkeeper Joel Castro Pereira discusses life with the Reds in an exclusive interview with ManUtd.com...
How did the move to United come about?
I remember I had a game with the Switzerland national team against Italy. It was one of my best games and, just after the end, I went back to the hotel with my team-mates where I received a phone call from my agent. He just told me somebody from Manchester United was interested in me. So I said: ‘Yeah, okay’ but did not talk any more about it or think that one day I could play for them. Time went on and then the agent called me again to say United were really interested in me. They came to watch me and I did well so they invited me to come over for one week. I could not say ‘no’ to the trial.

Did you get to meet any famous faces during your stay?
Sir Alex Ferguson was in the canteen and it was unbelievable. When I saw all the first-team players, I was overawed and couldn’t believe it. I’d moved from Switzerland to Manchester and to see all the star players was really good. My dad was here with me and was really happy that he got to meet some of them so it was really enjoyable. I followed United because my family and I all loved Cristiano Ronaldo. He had his best years at the club so I used to watch him and, of course, watch the club as well.

Did you appreciate playing in some different competitions last term?
It was really good. We’re young and all want to play as many games as we can in the different competitions to get experience. It was really good playing in the FA Youth Cup and I enjoyed the UEFA Youth League as well. It was great travelling with the first team and then I got some games with the Under-21s. I really enjoy it and hopefully I will get some more matches.

How did you find the step up to Under-21 football?
It’s a good challenge, I would say, because we all want to play in the first team. So it’s really good to move up to the Under-21s and I have to show them I can do it.

Is there something of a goalkeepers' union at the club?
David De Gea is really good. I talk to the other goalkeepers and sometimes we go to a restaurant as well as training together. They are really nice guys and all want to help you. They have been young as well so I think they help all the players out and try to do the same with us.

Is there a key element of being a goalkeeper at United?Maybe concentration. Sometimes in a whole 90 minutes, the goalkeepers do not have much to do so you just have to concentrate until the very last minute. You can have nothing to do until the final seconds and then be left in a one-on-one situation. You must be ready to save it and help the team.

What are your immediate ambitions?
I just have to concentrate on myself and train hard, making sure I work hard to achieve something. Obviously, I want to play some games with the Under-21s and I want to gain as many appearances as I can with Warren Joyce’s team and try to progress.

Do you feel settled in Manchester?
It was a bit difficult in my first year as I’d just moved over from a different country and was away from my family. Also, I had to wait for my international clearance for a few months so it was not really easy for me. You just have to concentrate by yourself and think about your career, just working hard every day. That is what I did – I worked hard every single day.

Does the competition for places spur you on?
I have a good relationship with the other goalies. We are good friends outside of the pitch as well. Of course, we are friends but all want to play so we have to work hard together. We all have good relations and to show we help each other. We play for the same team and we’re team-mates but we all want to win. We want to play so it is all a challenge.

He's only 17. I guess we can only tell how good he is really is at, the earliest, about 21-22 years of age for keeper.

Anyone else think he is looking more commanding each game now ? Even his physique has increased over the summer and looks a top prospect though tough to tell with Keepers.

He made a mistake vs Liverpool in setting up the wall and overcommitting on one side but his 2 saves were excellent particularly the 2nd and the way he rushed out making himself big. Commanded his box so well too.

I was just reading the Valdes article on the Daily Mail website and I come across this towards the end of it: United have high hopes that 19-year-old Joel Perreira could provide reliable back-up as the season develops.

Can anyone who watches the U21's/U18's regularly give us that don't some more insight into this lad?

Johnstone is older and further along in his development, but Joel Pereira looks a good keeper.

He's barely even played for the under 21s with us giving Amos and Lindegaard game time so thats a pretty random comment from them. He has a lot of talent and a good physique already but there's no chance that we'll have an 18 year old who's never played a senior game as our back up

Very good prospect who has trained with the first team a few times last season according to Phil Neville.Need to be tested in a higher level first (barely played for the U21s this season with Amos and Linde around) before we can tip him for something bigger.Very hard to say about GK before they ever play a senior game.

Kept a clean sheet today against Ben Pearson's Barnsley in his first game back on loan at Rochdale (second start).

If I have to guess, could be to replace Johnstone as the number 3 GK (while Johnstone is gonna be loaned or sold)
Sounds about right. Bit of a shame as the regular appearances could have done him good but it's about time Johnstone finds somewhere to kick off his career.
